2. Introduction
In the name of the Father, and the Son, and the
Holy Spirit, one God. Amen.
Kyrie eleison. Lord have mercy, Lord have mercy,
Lord bless us.
Amen. Alleluia.
If you are praying with another person – read responsively
where appropriate
3. The Psalm – Psalm 103
Alleluia, Alleluia, Alleluia
6
The LORD works vindication
and justice for all who are oppressed.
7
He made known his ways to Moses,
his acts to the people of Israel.
8
The LORD is merciful and gracious,
slow to anger and abounding in steadfast love.
9
He will not always accuse,
nor will he keep his anger forever.
10
He does not deal with us according to our sins,
nor repay us according to our iniquities.
11
For as the heavens are high above the earth,
so great is his steadfast love toward those who fear him;
12
as far as the east is from the west,
so far he removes our transgressions from us.
13
As a father has compassion for his children,
so the LORD has compassion for those who fear him.
14
For he knows how we were made;
he remembers that we are dust.
Alleluia, Alleluia, Alleluia
4. Short Reading and Meditation
The one who comes from above is
above all; the one who is of the earth
belongs to the earth and speaks about
earthly things. The one who comes
from heaven is above all. 32He testifies
to what he has seen and heard, yet no
one accepts his testimony. 33Whoever
has accepted his testimony has
certified this, that God is true. 34He
whom God has sent speaks the words
of God, for he gives the Spirit without
measure. 35The Father loves the Son
and has placed all things in his hands.
36Whoever believes in the Son has
eternal life; whoever disobeys the Son
will not see life, but must endure God's
wrath.
Thought for Today
"For as the heavens are high
above the earth, so great is his
steadfast love toward those who
fear him." May we recognize the
truth and beauty of what is
revealed to us about God through
Word and Spirit. "The One who
comes from above….testifies to
what he has heard." The
revelation of God's steadfast love
was made concrete for us in the
life and witness of Jesus Christ.
Lord God, help us to revel in your
steadfast love and fear
(reverence) you in awe and
wonder.
John 3:31-36
5. Prayer
Pray Silently or Aloud for Others and Yourself
O God, Who is the unsearchable abyss of peace, the ineffable
sea of love, the fountain of blessings, and the bestower of
affection, Who sends peace to those that receive it; open to us
this day the sea of Your love, and water us with the plenteous
streams from the riches of Your grace. Make us children of
quietness, and heirs of peace. Kindle in us the fire of Your love;
sow in us Your fear; strengthen our weakness by Your power;
bind us closely to You and to each other in one firm bond of
unity; for the sake of Jesus Christ. AMEN.
