This document outlines the 5 parts of a friendly letter: 1) Heading containing the return address, 2) Greeting starting with "Dear" followed by the recipient's name, 3) Body containing the main message with indented paragraphs, 4) Closing ending with a closing expression like "Sincerely" followed by a comma, and 5) Signature stating the author's name. Each part is defined in 1-2 sentences. An example friendly letter is also provided that incorporates all 5 parts.

The heading of a letter should contain the return
address, which includes the street address on
one line, followed by the city, state and zip code
on the next line. The third line is the date.

The greeting means “hello”. Usually, all of the
words, which are a part of the greeting, are
capitalized. A comma follows the greeting.

The body of the letter contains the main text or
message. Each paragraph should be indented.
