Task 10
1. Title of magazine The title of my magazine shall be “DYNAMITE MAGAZINE”. I have chose this name because it connotes “explosive” and “dangerous” like what the genre of it, Rock, is as it is also “rebellious”. I also chose it because the name “DYNAMITE” isn't too long or too short which makes it (I hope) easy to remember. Explanation of choice of genre I have chose my magazine to be a rock/indie genre magazine as it is a music genre which is rebellious and wild which visually will be a challenge for the design of the magazine to give it kind of an urban style. The magazine will feature interviews, competitions, music and gig reviews all based around Rock/Indie styled bands and artists Target Audience The target audience of my magazine will be from late teens (15/16/17) to about early adulthood (late 20’s or early 30’s) and will be aimed for either genres as it will include both male and female artists and relate to anybody of these ages. The magazine will be aimed at those at C1 or C2 social class as it makes it more affordable and suitable for those at that social class. Formal proposal
2. Initial ideas about front page As my magazine will be the first ever issue, it will be made clear of how special this edition will be as the plug on the front will mention it is lower than the rest of the issues at £1.99 (usually £2.99) and will include a free special guitar pick celebrating the first issue. The masthead at the top of the cover (which may also appear on other pages of the magazine) with have the word “DYNAMITE” in large, bold, sans-serif font and each letter will be jagged as it looks like scratches are through the word. The letter “I” will be represented as a lit dynamite ready to explode. The dominant image will be of a fictional band, later to be interviewed, SATAN & THE FLAMES who shall pose in front of a fiery background. The cover lines and strap lines on the cover will be in black, white or red text and rough to emphasize the urban style of it, or rebellion. Initial Ideas about contents page The contents page will feature the same font styles and text colours as the cover lines and strap lines on the front cover. The page numbers will run down the left side of the page as on the right will be a note from “The Editing Team” to welcome the reader to this new magazine which will look like it is written on a post stick note. There will also be another post stick note revealing what page to go to to enter a special 1 st issue competition. A third post stick note will give the details on how the reader can get in touch via website, twitter and facebook. Formal proposal
3. Initial ideas about the double page spread The double page spread will be the interview on a fictional band “Satan & The Flames”. The interview will take up the right side on the left page and the top half of the right page. The bottom half of the right page will have the details about the competition as mentioned on the contents page. Photos of the four members of the band, Satan & The Flames, will be scattered around the two pages. At the top and bottom of the pages will be black strips, the top to remind the name of the magazine the reader is reading and the website next to it. The bottom will remind the reader about the magazine’s twitter and facebook names to get in touch with, as well as the page numbers (represented as guitar picks with numbers on them). Initial Ideas about photographs I intend to take two photographs for the front cover. One of SATAN & THE FLAMES in a group shot as the dominant image, and another of another artist called BURKE PLAYA to assist one of the cover lines. The contents pages will include another photo of SATAN & THE FLAMES in a smaller photo next to their name to show they are a big feature in this issue. Another photo will have another artist also positioned next to name in the contents. Finally the double page spread, the interview for Satan & The Flames, will have four individual photos of the four band members scattered in different parts of the double page spread. Next to the competition another small photo of another artist will be positioned, the prize being tickets to see their live gig. Formal proposal
