3. Noun phrases are phrases that consist of
nouns and modifiers. Modifiers can be
articles, quantitative modifiers or
adjectives, Sometimes, a noun is
modified by two or more adjective. In this
case, we have to know the rules to put
the adjective in order. In this unit, we will
learn how to construct good noun
phrases.

‘Big’, ‘boring’, ‘purple’, ‘quick’, and ‘obvious’ are all

10. The Order of Adjective in a Noun
Phrase
In a noun phrase, the adjective/adjectives will always
appear in front of a noun, and the noun will similary
appear after the adjective/adjectives or at the end of
the noun phrase.

11. From the examples above, we learn that sometimes we
use more than one adjective to describe something. We
can use both fact adjectives and opinion adjectives.
Opinion adjectives go before fact ajectives.

12. Preposition
Preposition comes from words ‘Pre’ and ‘Position’. Pre
means before; and Position means located at. Thus
the initial meaning of preposition is ‘located before’.

a noun, or a noun phrase connecting it to another

14. Determiner
In Indonesian language, a, an, the, this, that, and these are called “kata
sandang”. They can be used to notify a noun. Study the following examples :
‘the’, ‘this’, ‘that’, to notify definite articles
‘a’, ‘an’, to notify indefinite articles
Articles ‘a’ and ‘an’ are not used to notify something in general
