available space in the cabinet is 46U, while 1U = 44.45 mm = 1.75 inch.
l The cabinet is composed of a power distribution frame (PDF), a fan frame, a service frame,
air deflector/air defense frame, cabling troughs, blank filler panels, a rack, and guide rails.
It is powered by –48 V DC, and conforms to IEC297. All modules in the cabinets can be
flexibly configured.
l UAP8100 contains two parts: Media Gateway Controller (MGC) and the Media Gateway
(MGW).
l MGC is the call control and media resource part of the UAP8100.
l MGW is the TDM switching centre of the UAP8100. It has a TDM switching capacity of
256K, supporting both TDM trunks and IP trunks.
l UAP8100 MGC is physically composed of two parts:
p OSTA frame.
p Back Administration Module (BAM).
l The OSTA frames form the host of UAP8100 MGC, providing the functions of service
processing and resource management. The BAM build up the background of UAP8100
MGC, offering the OAM functions.
l Frames are designed in a 19-inch structure. Each frame is 12U in height, the middle 9U of
which is for boards. The front boards are 9U high, and back boards are 8U high, with the
remaining 1U for filtering box. The frame is equipped with a fan box.
l In UAP8100, there are 3 parts. Front slot, mother board, back board. Boards are inserted
from front or back.
l UAP is composed of two parts: MGC and MGW.
l MGC is the call control and media resource part of the UAP8100, and is the crucial part.
The MGC has the following functions:
p Call control, service processing, and provide broadband and narrowband media
resources.
p Supports narrowband signaling such as TUP, ISUP, SCCP, TCAP, INAP, CAP, WIN,
among others.

l There are two types of trunk cables used in the UAP, 75/120-ohm E1 trunk cable and 100-
ohm T1 trunk cable. Both types adopt HD100PIN connectors with pin spacing of 1.27 mm,
and each cable includes 16 channels of E1 or T1 signals.
l The 75-ohm E1 trunk cable is 32-core coaxial cable with the impedance of 75 ohms, and
the 120-ohm E1/100-ohm T1 trunk cable uses 32 twisted pair cables with the impedance
of 120 ohms and 100 ohms respectively.
l E1 interface, the cable type can be the 120 ohm twisted pair or 75 ohm coaxial cable.
l T1 interface, it can be the 120 ohm coaxial cable.
l Cables with different resistance features correspond to different grounding modes. For
example, the E1 coaxial cable with 75 ohm resistance corresponds to non-balanced
grounding, and the twisted pair with 120 ohm resistance corresponds to balanced
grounding.
l FE
p The external network cables are used to connect the UAP8100 with external
network devices, and the external network ports in the UAP8100 are provided by
the corresponding back interface boards.
l GE: Gigabit Ethernet.
l External clock cables include 2 Mbit/s external clock cable. The 2Mbit/s clock cable is BITS
clock cable, which has SMB female connectors. It is used to access the synchronous clock
signals provided by external BITS.
l Internal clock cables include clock distribution cable and 8-kHz clock cable. One end of the
cable has a DB26PIN plastic connector and the other end has six UL2464-28AWG-100Ω
cables with RJ45 connectors, which correspond to three MGW frames.
l UAP8100 has open and standard protocol interfaces and supports a number of signaling
and protocols to interwork with many devices. The UAP8100 has a powerful and flexible
networking feature.
l SS7 protocol also include:
p ISUP: used for the interworking between the UAP8100 and the PSTN so that the
UAP8100 can provide ISUP trunks through MGW/MGC and achieve the
interconnection with PSTN exchanges.
p MTP: used for the interworking between the UAP8100 and the SS7 signaling
network so that the UAP8100 can be interconnected to SP or STP in the SS7
signaling network.
