The system switch capacity is limited by the central forward engine which max switch capacity is 3T bps now in industry. The forwarding table maybe not enough because the forwarding table is shared in whole system. For example: MAC table: 256K/Routing table: 16K Same architecture with Core routes and switches: Each line card has its own forward engine to do packet forwarding lookup. The system switch capacity is the sum of each line card, totally 7Tbps, future may expand to 14T. The system forwarding table is enough big and easily extended by add uplink cards. For example: MAC table: 1M/Routing table: 64K
