2. My first Instagram Post 2012
• It was 2012 when I made my
first foray onto Instagram.
• Not knowing what to post…I
saw a segment on the App in
the news about the growing
trend in food photography.
• I snapped a picture of my
lunch…PEANUT BUTTER JELLY
TIME, PEANUT BUTTER JELLY
TIME…this Dad is on the ‘Gram!
3. Normal Dad Stuff
• For a while I took pictures of the kids and monuments during
breaks from school…
• But even for a Dad, 2 likes using a filter isn’t very cool!
• I don’t post for “likes” but I kinda want people to like what I post
4. • I started following posters who had really cool stylized photos that looked
so much better than Instagram’s filters.
• I did a little research which revealed the world of High Dynamic Range
Photography or HDR…which sounds complicated, but don’t worry, there’s
an App for that!
5. Non-HDR
HDRHDR • On the left…..my
pictures.
• On the right…my
pictures on
Instagram in
HDR…any
questions?
• Brighter, more
contrast and
saturation,
somewhat
exaggerated
• The shots look
BOLD, like a
comic book or
painting.
6. Hashtags & Features
• I got better at my HDR editing and discovered Hashtags, which are a way to bookmark and
curate a subject and are frequently used on Twitter and Instagram.
• They’ve quickly become part of everyday popular culture.
Hashtag #yes-I-follow-KimKhardashian #I-learned-to-Shout-Out-The-Place-I-just-took-this-picture
#HDRphotography-Pages-ThatFeature-Photos-Have-HashTags
7. Check it out, I’m a Professional!
• Time passed and I honed my craft.
• After a couple years on the ‘Gram (that’s what the cool kids
call it) , I was honored to receive an HDR Professional
membership certificate!
• From everyday scenes to exotic locales (#local-connecticut-
newyork-and-Mass-shots, #my-vacation-and-business trips) I
started snapping and posting more than my teenage girls!
• Self trained and
focused, I shot city
skylines, sunsets…and
sisters
• Can’t forget little
brothers, cupcake
trucks and
grandparents too!
8. Membership has its privileges…
• I’m a Member of 3 Instagram Hubs
• I was invited to “Mod” (Moderate) Instagram Hub site Pocket_hdr last fall
• What does that mean you ask…?
• It means I pick the pictures that get picked…twice a week
9. Cities
• Cities and Urban shots are my favorites!
• New York, Austin, Hartford, Nashville and Miami
• Are some of my more than 50 features…
10. Sunsets
• From beaches to backyards, ballparks to parking lots…NEVER pass up
a good sunset shot!
11. Family
• Art Museums, Auditions, GrandPa’s or Parades.
• Shots out and about with Family are always fair game!
12. The Featured Attraction
• Re-posts bring rewarding recognition!
• Its always an honor to have the places you visit feature your photo!
13. Questions?
• BOOM! – There it is!!!
• This Middle-Aged Dad is a taste
maker on the ‘Gram!!!
• Any Questions?
