Chip McGee authored an article on using actual kindergarten attendance figures rather than possible students based on births to make more accurate enrollment projections. Focusing only on births can lead to projections that differ greatly from reality six years later. Counting students attending on the first day of kindergarten provides a better indicator of those who will be in the educational system over the next dozen years. Taking a three-year average of changes in cohorts augments this approach and allows for accurate budgeting and allocation of resources.

Colleges can play a critical role in sustainable regional and local development by expanding their historical role as anchor institutions. This expansion could take the form of a ‘knowledge economy” update on the land grant college model. Land grant colleges were established to provide practical skills training to farmers, mechanics and other tradesmen (Hertz, 2013). Providing education in innovation, entrepreneurship and social entrepreneurship can prepare both students and adult learners for well-paying careers in the place based economy.
Placemaking as an economic development strategy, also called place-based economic development, is the practice of using a community’s public amenities to make economic progress. This approach focuses on the unique features of particular places, building on existing assets, such as arts, cultural amenities, parks, architectural design, open spaces, lakes or walkable streets to create a strong bond between people and the places they live , contributing to the appeal of these places to live, work, engage and socialize. Effective placemaking strategies can also attract investment and be a catalyst for entrepreneurial innovation (Ivacko & Horner, 2014), as well as enhance the attraction of young millennial, college-aged students to a particular location.
Putting aside the detail of the findings for one moment, one of the very interesting aspects of this year’s survey is that, unlike in previous years, there is far less divergence of opinions between academy and maintained school respondents. This perhaps reflects the fact that we are now entering into the sixth year of the expanded academies programme and all schools are feeling the continued effects of the changing accountability measures, frailties of the examination system as well as financial restraint in the public sector.
Two clear themes struck me when looking at the survey findings. The Government’s education programme heavily relies on school leaders and it is clear more needs to be done to support current leaders as well as identifying and developing the leaders of the future. With continuation of the academy programme at pace and the emergence of more local school groups this will be a critical part of succession planning at both a local and national level.
This Government also needs to follow through on its manifesto commitments on schools funding. The Conservative manifesto made a commitment to provide‘proper funding’ to every school and to ‘make schools funding fairer’. However, Nicky Morgan has said the new funding formula will not be ready until September 2017 at the very earliest. Many will remember the last Education Secretary of State started consultation on fair funding in 2012 but progress soon stalled.
Whilst 2017 will feel too late for many, it is important to ensure that this time real progress will be delivered for our worst funded schools and their pupils. The Prime Minister’s announcement in July this year that the additional £390m previously confirmed for 2015-16 would be base-lined in budgets for future years was a welcome start. Any additional measures the Chancellor can facilitate in the comprehensive spending review to help narrow the gap pending the full implementation of fair funding will be very welcome.

2024.06.01 Introducing a competency framework for languag learning materials ...Sandy Millin
http://sandymillin.wordpress.com/iateflwebinar2024
Published classroom materials form the basis of syllabuses, drive teacher professional development, and have a potentially huge influence on learners, teachers and education systems. All teachers also create their own materials, whether a few sentences on a blackboard, a highly-structured fully-realised online course, or anything in between. Despite this, the knowledge and skills needed to create effective language learning materials are rarely part of teacher training, and are mostly learnt by trial and error.
Knowledge and skills frameworks, generally called competency frameworks, for ELT teachers, trainers and managers have existed for a few years now. However, until I created one for my MA dissertation, there wasn’t one drawing together what we need to know and do to be able to effectively produce language learning materials.
This webinar will introduce you to my framework, highlighting the key competencies I identified from my research. It will also show how anybody involved in language teaching (any language, not just English!), teacher training, managing schools or developing language learning materials can benefit from using the framework.

This is a presentation by Dada Robert in a Your Skill Boost masterclass organised by the Excellence Foundation for South Sudan (EFSS) on Saturday, the 25th and Sunday, the 26th of May 2024.
He discussed the concept of quality improvement, emphasizing its applicability to various aspects of life, including personal, project, and program improvements. He defined quality as doing the right thing at the right time in the right way to achieve the best possible results and discussed the concept of the "gap" between what we know and what we do, and how this gap represents the areas we need to improve. He explained the scientific approach to quality improvement, which involves systematic performance analysis, testing and learning, and implementing change ideas. He also highlighted the importance of client focus and a team approach to quality improvement.
Operation “Blue Star” is the only event in the history of Independent India where the state went into war with its own people. Even after about 40 years it is not clear if it was culmination of states anger over people of the region, a political game of power or start of dictatorial chapter in the democratic setup.
The people of Punjab felt alienated from main stream due to denial of their just demands during a long democratic struggle since independence. As it happen all over the word, it led to militant struggle with great loss of lives of military, police and civilian personnel. Killing of Indira Gandhi and massacre of innocent Sikhs in Delhi and other India cities was also associated with this movement.

The Roman Empire A Historical Colossus.pdfkaushalkr1407
The Roman Empire, a vast and enduring power, stands as one of history's most remarkable civilizations, leaving an indelible imprint on the world. It emerged from the Roman Republic, transitioning into an imperial powerhouse under the leadership of Augustus Caesar in 27 BCE. This transformation marked the beginning of an era defined by unprecedented territorial expansion, architectural marvels, and profound cultural influence.
The empire's roots lie in the city of Rome, founded, according to legend, by Romulus in 753 BCE. Over centuries, Rome evolved from a small settlement to a formidable republic, characterized by a complex political system with elected officials and checks on power. However, internal strife, class conflicts, and military ambitions paved the way for the end of the Republic. Julius Caesar’s dictatorship and subsequent assassination in 44 BCE created a power vacuum, leading to a civil war. Octavian, later Augustus, emerged victorious, heralding the Roman Empire’s birth.
Under Augustus, the empire experienced the Pax Romana, a 200-year period of relative peace and stability. Augustus reformed the military, established efficient administrative systems, and initiated grand construction projects. The empire's borders expanded, encompassing territories from Britain to Egypt and from Spain to the Euphrates. Roman legions, renowned for their discipline and engineering prowess, secured and maintained these vast territories, building roads, fortifications, and cities that facilitated control and integration.
The Roman Empire’s society was hierarchical, with a rigid class system. At the top were the patricians, wealthy elites who held significant political power. Below them were the plebeians, free citizens with limited political influence, and the vast numbers of slaves who formed the backbone of the economy. The family unit was central, governed by the paterfamilias, the male head who held absolute authority.
Culturally, the Romans were eclectic, absorbing and adapting elements from the civilizations they encountered, particularly the Greeks. Roman art, literature, and philosophy reflected this synthesis, creating a rich cultural tapestry. Latin, the Roman language, became the lingua franca of the Western world, influencing numerous modern languages.
Roman architecture and engineering achievements were monumental. They perfected the arch, vault, and dome, constructing enduring structures like the Colosseum, Pantheon, and aqueducts. These engineering marvels not only showcased Roman ingenuity but also served practical purposes, from public entertainment to water supply.

The Importance of Actual Kindergarten Attendance in Making Projections
1. The Importance of Actual
Kindergarten Attendance in
Making Projections
By: Chip McGee Bedford NH
2. The Importance of Actual Kindergarten Attendance
in Making Projections
A well established presence in the Bedford, NH community, Chip McGee utilizes experience as a
teacher and educational administrator in his position with Sugar Maple Consulting. As Bedford School
District superintendent, he oversaw a variety of NH curriculum initiatives while maintaining a balanced
budget. Respected in his field, Chip McGee authored the LinkedIn article “Counting Noses” on the
importance of using actual kindergarten attendance figures in making enrollment projections.
3. The Importance of Actual Kindergarten Attendance
in Making Projections
All too often, districts focus on "possible" students through looking at births in the community, which
can lead to projections that are much different from the reality that emerges six years later. Counting
those actually in attendance on their first day of school provides a much better yardstick of those who
will likely be part of the educational system over the next dozen years.
4. The Importance of Actual Kindergarten Attendance
in Making Projections
Augmenting this approach, a “three-year average of the change in the cohort” provides an accurate
snapshot that allows budget and resources to be appropriately allocated. While there may be a
tendency to weight this figure toward the most recent year, an unweighted average is more simple
and easy to understand, and thus trusted by the public when making important financial decisions.
At the same time, consideration should be given to changes such as new residential developments
and school closures, outside factors that often impact school attendance.
