1.
2. Born in Manchester, Northern England in 1986 to
Cameroonian parents, Chi Atanga grew up in a home
that reflects the mood and direction of the brand.
The sounds of Makossa, Kotto Bass, Ben and Grace
Decca, long echo in his ears, alongside Oasis,
The Smiths and UB40. Passionate about both back-
grounds and how they influenced each other Chi was
always keen to take the best of both worlds, combining
them into something unique.
A natural entreprenuer — a skill inherited from his ma-
ternal grandfather and influenced by growing up in the
era of Innocent smoothie, the body shop and fair trade
— his burning desire was to do good at a profit.
He saw fashion, a global multi billion dollar industry as
the perfect tool to complete this aim.
Feeling duty bound and led by providence, Chi’s journey
has been guided by a serious of chance meetings.
The first on a long tail boat in Vietnam and a second
change meeting in East London’s Shoreditch, took Chi
on an adventure that has spanned several countries
and experiences. Ghana to seek inspiration and to
investigate future production, Holland to persuade the
most respected luxury producer of African print fabric
to work with him and Portugal in search of luxury fab-
rics and high quality production.
The brand is underscored by two objectives: to pro-
mote African design, creativity and to build a forward
vertically integrated production facility on the African
continent, using demand created by the brand but also
producing for other brands and companies.
“The industrial age is unfolding. The revolution has
started! By wearing our garments and producing with
us you are supporting a sustainable ecosystem that will
change the face of the African continent and its 1 billion
inhabitants.”

WALLS OF BENIN
3. Vlisco. A story as unique as their fabrics.
Vlisco. the true original.
Vlisco’s heritage is quite unlike any other. Since 1846, Vlisco created
unique textiles influencing the fashion landscape in West and Central
Africa. These fabrics reflect true Dutch craftsmanship and were originally
known as ‘Hollandais’, from the French word for ‘Dutch’. They’re still the
only brand creating authentic Dutch Wax fabrics recognisable for their
unique design, colours and wax craquetlé.
Today, Vlisco is an international brand with a rich heritage and many heart-
warming stories to tell. Stories of family history, inheritance and of fabrics
that have deeper meaning and are honoured with names of endearment by
their consumers and traders. The story is as such ever evolving.
