Women Raise Cancer Awareness with No Makeup Selfies

Lynsey Barr, 23, Coleraine
Lynsey says: “If we can help save
lives by taking a no make-up selfie and
donate £3 to cancer, then we are not
only raising money, but we are raising
awareness.
“It’s refreshing to see so many
females posting their natural faces on
Facebook, supporting such a worthy
cause. Obviously, taking your make up
off is nothing like dealing with cancer,
and doesn’t begin to compare to what
those affected by it are dealing with.
“But by removing your make-up and
exposing your vulnerable self, it’s almost
symbolic of having to deal with a real
issue that a lot of people avoid talking
about.
“Sometimes, cancer is one of those
sensitive issues that people hide away
from, and similarly to girls no longer
hiding behind their make-up, this
campaign has meant we are no longer
shying away from the issue and actually
doing something to help!”
“The money being raised
is phenomenal”
“I did this for
the friends and
family I’ve lost”
Sandra says: “I got involved in this in memory of all
the friends and family members I’ve lost. Cancer
takes far too many lives and anything we can do to
help stop it is something I’m very interested in!
“Now I’m older, seeing all these beautiful fresh
faced young girls makes me realise that maybe
people were right when they used to tell me I didn’t
need all that make up! But of course there was no
telling me at that age!
“It’s so refreshing to see all
these women doing their bit
for such a worthy cause and I
hope it continues.”

Cara Kelly, 33, Portrush
Cara says: “A few friends nominated me to
do a no make-up selfie so I got involved.
“I think it’s been really worthwhile, the
money raised was phenomenal and the
awareness it’s raised has been fantastic!
“I’ve had a few debates with some more
cynical people about these selfies and their
purpose but I think it’s great and that it will
encourage both men and women to check
themselves and go for their routine check-
up, just like it reminded me to go for mine!
“Unfortunately cancer is in both sides of
my family and I’ve lost very dear and close
family members and friends to it. I must admit this
has made me aware of just how vain I am!
“I wear make-up daily and Iove my contouring,
eyeliner and mascara! I usually select only photos
that I think are of a ‘certain Cara quality’ to post up or
show people! So it put me out of my comfort zone,
but it’s all for a good cause!
is phenomenal”
“I love seeing all the natural
faces on Facebook!”
