New! Community Organizing and Service Learning
This course provides the student with an introduction to the foundational theories and skills necessary
in community organizing. Key concepts covered include advocacy, mobilizing, activism, social justice and
social change. Strategies and principles of successful community organizing will be presented. Students
will identify potential targets for social change and develop a social media campaign as well as a community
organization proposal to address the identified need. Eligible for 15 CEs for licensed social workers and
licensed counselors.
Note: This is a hybrid class that uses Blackboard. It includes a mandatory service learning experience of 8
hours at Habitat for Humanity.
