Learning in a Digital Age is about learning on the Internet and we recommend
that any learner embarking on the tertiary study in today’s world should take this
free course. In this micro-course, you will develop a positive online identity in
support of learning on the Internet commensurate with good practice for privacy,
security, and interpersonal communications.
Digital citizenship (LiDA102) is one of four micro-courses for the Learning in a
Digital age course. In this micro-course, you will engage in academic learning as a
digital citizen of the internet.

4. Orientation
Students register website accounts needed to set up a personal learning environment.
Pre-knowledge of LIDA101 materials is required for participation in forums and discussion on
sites, e.g., mastodon.oeru.org, forums.oeru.org, Hypothes.is, and bookmarks.oeru.org

website accounts, and Test drive the technologies.
5. Digital Citizenship
This learning pathway builds on the concept of citizenship considering a range of
e-literacies developing a definition for digital citizenship in the context of learning
in a digital age
E-literacy, ICT literacy, digital literacy, media literacy, information literacy, and new
literacies are the main concepts studied.
6. Online Identity for Learning
This learning pathway reviews the existing online identity and commences work
on improving digital identity in support of online learning.
The main objectives are technical and human elements of online identity, digital
identity and its importance for digital citizenship, and reluctant assessment of an
online presence. Especially on social media and taking a proactive approach to
improving an online identity.
7. Digital Environments
Referring to the tools and online spaces used in interacting with each other,
Digital environments, with reference to digital citizenship, includes health and
safety, privacy and security, and the skills in reviewing the terms of service of the
online spaces used.
This pathway is a guide to ensuring a healthy digital relationship is achieved by
students when using computers and mobile phones

8. Digital Practices in the Workplace
For this learning pathway the change in technology impact on digital practices in
the workplace is considered before it even happens.
Technology and change
Artificial Intelligence is a man-made program or algorithm that helps humans do less
work. Jobs and Automation is human labor being replaced by autos or robots
9. Societal Issues and the Internet
In this learning pathway, a number of societal issues and problematic online behaviors which have
emerged in the digital world are introduced.
• Online impersonation – using fake information online and pretending to be someone you’re not.
• Internet trolling – pretentious behavior online
• Online harassment – cyberbullying, cybercrimes.
• Psychological issues – trauma or uncensored information on the net causes such.
• Digital redlining – certain sites or place on the internet or media that does not encourage digital
literacy
• Equity and inclusion equity is the process of ensuring that processes and programs are
impartial, fair, and provide equal possible outcomes for every individual. Inclusion is the
practice of ensuring that people feel a sense of belonging in the workplace.
