Freedom of speech is a fundamental right that allows for the open exchange of ideas. However, some argue this right should not protect hate speech that targets groups based on attributes such as race, religion, sexual orientation or gender identity. There are good arguments on both sides of this complex issue, and reasonable people can disagree on where to draw the line between free speech and hate speech.
