Padgett Goals to Become a Master Intercultural Communicator
1. Five Actionable Goals On My
Road to Becoming a Master
Intercultural Communicator
Charlie Padgett
2. Work Outside of My Identity
Group at my CO-OP

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Flag_of_Germany
As a co-op at Bosch I have a lot of opportunities to work with people of
different nationalities.
I hope to use these opportunities to challenge my worldview and learn
about other cultures.
I plan to do at least two projects with my German co-workers next term.
3. Seek Constructive Debate in the Classroom
https://medium.com/swlh/an-explanation-for-why-we-
dont-learn-from-others-in-a-debate-6be137acbcf5
I plan to challenge
my beliefs by
discussing them
with peers in and
outside of the
classroom.
This discourse will
allow me to learn
about other cultures
and see my flaws in
communication.
To supplement this
goal I will join an
aerospace focused
club that will help
me to meet with
people outside of
my cultural
identity.
While I grow as a
communicator, I
hope to help my
classmates as well.
5. Community Service
Growing up I was always in a privileged situation. I
never worried about where my next meal was
coming from, and I always had a place to sleep.
Doing some community service in high school gave
me the perspective to see how privileged I was
compared to others.
In order to keep this perspective I will volunteer at a
homeless shelter more before I graduate so that I
can keep myself aware of just how lucky I am.
6. Listen to the “Lowest Man on the Totem Pole”
http://k2adnauseam.blogspot.com/2010/05/low-man-on-totem-pole.html
Often times the hierarchy of a
business can get in the way of
good ideas from low ranking
employees.
I will make sure to always have
suggestion systems in any
business that I become a part of.
Often times the people
closest to the product will
have best insight into what
can be optimized and what
doesn’t work at all.
