1. Dear Bakes Sales for Body Armor Supporter,
Our campaign to protect our troops in Iraq has come a long way since we began in
February. Thanks to your support, we have raised nearly $12,000 and purchased body
armor and needed items for 30 people serving in Iraq.
As the body armor situation in Iraq improved, we thought that we would soon be ending
our campaign. We were wrong. A few weeks ago, one of our soldiers requested armor to
protect his legs from IEDs. As is typical with the men and women who turn to us for
help, he was very polite in asking only for what he needed. He told us that the IEDs in
his sector are particularly bad and that the armor on the vehicles does not always stop it.
He asked that we provide an armor plate to protect the leg nearest the door. We asked
him if he wanted to protect both legs and he said he did, but he didn’t want to deprive
another soldier of the funds to purchase more armor. We contacted our supplier and
decided to purchase sets of drop leg armor if requested. Immediately following the
shipment of our first order, five more requested it. Since then we have had a steady
stream of requests.
We have reached a time when our list is growing, but the public dialog of this issue does
not reflect the need of our troops. We have identified a critical need to hold public events
to increase awareness of this issue.
WE NEED YOUR HELP!
We have begun to take the Bake Sales for Body Armor message on the road! For this
purpose we have established the Bake Sales for Body Armor travel fund. This summer,
we would like to reach out to new audiences by attending veteran’s service conferences
as well as meeting with our congressional leadership in Washington DC.
Please visit our website and donate generously. If you would like to donate to the travel
fund, place the words travel fund in your PayPal message.
Thank you for your continue support,
Charlie Anderson and Tammara Rosenleaf
