BOONE VETERANS PROGRAM ASSISTANT/WORK STUDY POSITION ANNOUNCEMENT
The Boone Division of Workforce Solutions/Watauga JobLink seeks a part-time Veterans Program
Assistant/Work Study to provide administrative support for an active veterans outreach program serving
Watauga and Avery Counties. Incumbent will work a flexible schedule that compliments their school schedule.
MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Incumbent will assist the Local Veterans Employment Representative (LVER) by:
 Researching and posting job orders in NC Job Connector
 Contacting employers to follow up on posted job orders, inquire about current needs or
schedule employer visits
 Matching and referring active veteran clients to jobs
 Assisting clients with work search activities
 Coordinating with employers, job seekers and service providers to promote events such as
job fairs, workshops etc.
 Preparing marketing materials including spreadsheets, letters, posters, brochures or other
marketing materials to promote events
 Performing administrative tasks as assigned to further veterans/community outreach
objectives
QUALIFICATIONS
1. Applicant must be a veteran of the U.S. Armed Forces attending Department of Veterans Affairs
approved training full-time or ¾ time and receiving benefits under one of the following programs:
 Post-9/11 GI Bill--(38 U.S.C. Chapter 33) (Veterans and transfer-of-entitlement recipients)
 Montgomery GI Bill--Active Duty (38 U.S.C. Chapter 30)
 REAP
 Montgomery GI Bill--Selected Reserve (10 U.S.C. Chapter 1606)
 Post-Vietnam Era Veterans' Educational Assistance Program (38 U.S.C. Chapter 32)
 Dependents’ Educational Assistance Program (38 U.S.C. Chapter 35)
 National Call to Service Participants
 Vocational Rehabilitation & Employment Program -- (38 U.S.C. Chapter 31)
2. Applicants MUST possess the following skills:
 Ability to adapt to rapidly changing conditions in a fast paced office environment
 Strong computer skills and knowledge of Microsoft Office
 Exemplary time management skills and ability to manage work and personal responsibilities
 Strong verbal and written communication skills
3. The following is PREFERRED but not required:
 Experience or formal studies in business or professional communications such as but not
limited to: Public Relations, Advertising, Marketing, Journalism, Human Resources etc.
 Experience making posters, brochures and/or newsletters
 Administrative background and/or experience working in an office environment
 Planning experience
