Plastic pop is one of the most well known and successful genre in today's society, as it
associated with the genre of pop. The thing that makes plastic pop stand out is the
emphasise that is placed on femininity, therefore making its target audience
mainly female. The genre is most appealing to a youthful audience, due to the
theme and type of songs, for example love songs that have a catchy beat making it
successful.
The influences for plastic pop came from various different genres that have been
adapted into the genre of pop, for example the sex appeal that is portrayed in rnb
music videos and through the artist is now frequently seen in plastic pop music
videos. For instance the boy band, The Wanted attract a female audience as well
as homosexuals therefore broadening the target audience.
Pop is known for its portrayal of a ‘perfect’ artist through, tight clothing, bright colours
etc. The colours are also used to appeal to a youthful audience.
3. Organisations that support Plastic Pop
Organisations that support plastic pop are reality programmes which by winning you
gain a recording contract and already are exposed to an audience. Programmes
such as Britain’s got talent and X factor are the main leaders of the support of
plastic pop, this is because on the show they are shaped into what is preserved to
be a pop star, this involves styling as a major aspect.
These programmes are then supported by the audience due to the funding of they get
from viewers phoning in to save or eliminate an act that doesn’t fit the idea of a
super star. These programmes can be beneficial for the winners or runners up, by
gaining an audience while on the programme after it has all ended they may be
spotted by recording companies and already have a large fan base.
Disney’s associations with ‘perfect princesses’ makes it a large advocate for plastic pop
as actors and singers such as Hannah Montana that are formed on the show are
expected to keep the ‘cookie cutter’ image being young and innocent.

Due to the expansion of new technology in recent years we are constantly, using a
type of media whether, TV, internet or social networking. Since media has
become apart of daily lives we are more influenced by it now more then ever.
For example websites that are set up on the internet to promote artist which
are known as fan pages, are used especially with plastic pop artists such as
Justin Bieber, due to the media Biebers fans are now known as ‘Bieliebers’
which is a mix of both Bieber and believer. Not to mention, the development
of games that allow the audience to sing and dance along with there favourite
artists on game consoles such as WII an Xbox, an example of this ‘High School
Musical: Sing it’ which is a good example of plastic pop due to it being a
Disney original film.
Music Magazines like ‘Top of the Pops’, have huge influences on today’s society
because of the number of exclusive interviews they get with popular pop
artists, therefore attracting buyers.
