③ Nernst equation - Bernstein’s hypothesis
concentration은 400 mM → 1.04 x 10-12 moles of K ions → 1 mole은 6.04 x 1023
3.8 x 107 ions / 6.2 x
1011 ions = 0.006% K ions move for membrane potential set up.
③ Nernst equation - Bernstein’s hypothesis
15. ⓒ Key points

㉡ Equilibrium potential; Wchem = Welec

- both cardiac and smooth muscle에 많이 존재한다.

⑥ Initiation of action potential
ⓐ positive-feedback vicious cycle opens the sodium channel
channel의 open
ⓑ Threshold for initiation of the action potential
; sudden rise in membrane potential of 15-30 mV이 필요하다 → 큰 nerve에서는, -90
mV up to -60 mV가 AP를 일으킬 수 있다; threshold

⑦ Propagation of the action potential
ⓑ Depolarized area of membrane의 local circuit이 주변부의 resting membrane
ⓓ All-or-nothing principle - action potential

⑧ Re-establishing sodium and potassium ionic gradient after action potentials are
completed - importance of energy metabolism
Na+-K+ pump

49. 3. Nerve action potential
⑨ Plateau in some action potentials
㉠ Voltage-gated sodium channel (fast channel)
㉡ Voltage-gated calcium channel (slow channel)
→ first spike; fast channel → plateau; slow channel
ⓑ Voltage-gated potassium channel
50. 4. Rhythmicity of some excitable tissues - repetitive discharge
① rhythmical beats of the heart
② rhythmical peristalsis of the intestine
③ neuronal events as the rhythmical control of breathing

51. 4. Rhythmicity of some excitable tissues - repetitive discharge
① Re-excitation process necessary for spontaneous rhythmicity
calcium)에 대해서 natural state (resting state)에 충분히 permeable해야 한다.
- ‘resting’ membrane potential in the rhythmical control center of the heart는

52. 4. Rhythmicity of some excitable tissues - repetitive discharge
① Re-excitation process necessary for spontaneous rhythmicity

53. 5. Special characteristics of signal transmission in nerve trunks
① Myelinated and unmyelinated nerve fibers
- large nerves are myelinated, small nerves are unmyelinated
- Axon, Myelin sheath, a node of ranvier
ⓐ The myelin sheath
substances in schwann cell)의 multiple layer를 형성;
ⓑ node of Ranvier
54. 5. Special characteristics of signal transmission in nerve trunks
① Myelinated and unmyelinated nerve fibers
ⓒ Saltatory conduction in myelinated fibers from node to node
- Thick myelin sheath에서는 어떠한 ion의 교환이 일어나지 않지만, node of ranvier
→ Therefore, action potential occur only at the nodes; saltatory conduction
55. 5. Special characteristics of signal transmission in nerve trunks
① Myelinated and unmyelinated nerve fibers
ⓓ Velocity of condution in nerve fibers
- very small unmyelinated: 0.25 m/sec
- large myelinated: 100 m/sec
56. 5. Special characteristics of signal transmission in nerve trunks
② Excitation - The process of eliciting the action potential
- 예를 들어, membrane의 mechanical disturbance, chemical effects, passage of
electricity through the membrane
neurotransmitters, electrical current to transmit signals between muscles cells
in heart and intestine
