This PowerPoint helps students to consider the concept of infinity.
Difference between damp &water proofing
1. Damp proofing System
• dampness is the presence of unwanted moisture in the structure of a building, either
the result of intrusion from outside or condensation from within the structure.
• It is the Presence of hygroscopic or gravitational moisture.
• Building should remain dry or free from of moisture travelling through walls, floors,
foundations etc.
• Dampness gives unhygienic condition apart from reduction in strength of structural
components.
What is Dampness ?
2. • Dampness gives rise to breeding of mosquitoes
and create unhealthy conditions.
• Travel of moisture on wall causes unsightly
patches.
• It may cause softening & crumbling of plasters.
• Wall decoration or paint is damaged.
• Continuous presence of moisture in wall may
cause efflorescence which result in disintegration
of bricks, stones, tiles.
• Flooring gets loosened due to reduction in
adhesion when moisture enters through the floor.
• Electrical fittings get deterioration giving rise to
leakage of electricity & danger of short shirtings.
• Floor covering are damaged.
• Rusting and corrosion of metal fittings.
Effect of Dampness -
3. • Water proofing is the process which is designed to prevent water from
penetrating a building.
• Waterproofing is far more effective as it keeps water in its various states
from crossing a surface, therefore moisture from the soil, water vapor and
water under hydrostatic pressure is efficiently barred.
• waterproofing is effective in preventing water from entering your
basement through any holes or cracks.
• Waterproofing also eliminates the inflow of water and moisture that can
enter the home through the ceiling, wall and roof cracks; therefore these
are also areas that must be waterproofed to ensure a lasting solution.
Difference between damp proofing and water proofing:-
• Damp proofing in construction is a type of moisture control
applied to building walls and floors to prevent moisture from
passing into the interior spaces.
• amp proofing only controls water vapor from the soil moisture
and will not stop the inflow of liquid water.
• amp proofing will only keep the dampness out of your
basement or foundation, it cannot prevent water from seeping
in through cracks.
• Damp proofing them may not be sufficient.
