Company Profile
4. Reciprocating air compressors are the type of
compressor found in most small shops, they are positive
displacement machines.
This means that they increase the pressure of the air by
reducing its volume, this is accomplished by a piston
moving up a cylinder compressing the air above it.
Single-stage and two-stage reciprocating compressors
are commercially available. Single-stage compressors
are generally used for pressures in the range of 70 psi to
150 psi. Two-stage compressors are generally used for
higher pressures.
Introduction
5. On the suction stroke of the First stage piston , air at
atmospheric pressure enter the first stage cylinder
through the inlet filter and inlet valve.
The compression stroke compresses this air to an
intermediate pressure and discharges it through the
discharge valve into the intercooler tubing where the
heat of first stage compression is removed by the action
of the belt wheel fan passing cool air over the
intercooler’s finned tubes.
Basic Principle
6. Reciprocating compressors are extensively used in this
present age of modernization like in power plants, chemical
plants and air-compressors which compress the air which is
utilized for inflation purposes and as fuel in compressed-air
cars.
The control of fluid pressure in the storage tank is essential
for its safety and satisfactory functioning of appliances
actuated by reciprocating compressor.
In order to fulfill the above, the transmission mechanism
between the driving motor and the crank should be such that
the proper engaging or disengaging could be done for a
particular value of fluid pressure in storage tank.
Problem
7. Currently they have compressor with two controllers as:-
1. ASSC (Auto Start Stop Control): As soon as the pressure
inside the storage tank reaches to the required limit then the
motor stops, resulting in stoppage of engine.
2. CSC (Constant Speed Control):As soon as the pressure
reaches to the required limit then it directly discharge the
compressed air in atmosphere, while the motor and engine
runs at constant speed.

The paper presents a critical review of different approaches for
reciprocating compressors thermal analysis.
It is well established that a major part of the inefficiency in small
reciprocating compressors used for household refrigeration Is
associated with thermal effects, mainly reflected in terms of
superheating. Therefore, the capability to optimize the compressor
thermal behavior is crucial to increase its efficiency.
Thermal Analysis Of Reciprocating Compressors –
A Critical Review
10. In fact, there is a perception that new compressor
developments will be strongly dependent on how effectively
the thermal issue is handled.
The aim of this paper is to present an overview of different
numerical and experimental methodologies currently applied
in the industry for compressor thermal design.
A brief description of each methodology is given, with
possible applications for the compressor analysis, along its
main advantages and drawbacks.
Finally, some insights about new developments in this area
are also presented.

Broken rotor bar detection in induction motors using current
signature analysis gives good results when the motor load is
almost constant. However, if the load torque is oscillating, or it
is a function of the rotor position, the current spectrum will
contain spectral components which coincides with the
components produced by rotor faults.

reciprocating compressors
12. Rotor fault detection in these loads, such as compressors and
other reciprocating loads, is very difficult. A new strategy for
broken rotor bar diagnosis in single-phase induction motors
is presented in this paper.
This strategy is based on the analysis of the auxiliary
winding voltage. The proposed strategy allows the
diagnostic of rotor faults even with pulsating load torque.
Simulation and experimental results are presented.

13. The mechanisms which can possibly be used are
as follows:
1. Clutch Pulley
2. Alternator De-coupler Pulleys
3. Fast and Loose Pulley
Possible Solutions
14. Many vehicles have pulley clutches to allow some of the
belt-driven components to freewheel when not in use.
“The clutch functions by engaging when the accessory is
needed and disengaging when it isn't”.
This can help reduce drag on the engine and improve fuel
efficiency, while also reducing wear and tear on the
component itself. Certain alternators may also be designed
with pulley clutches, so they can continue to rotate at a
higher revolutions per minute (RPM) than the engine itself
during brief periods.
Clutch Pulley
15.
16. The pulley clutch is most often found on air conditioning
(AC) compressors, while a thermostatic variety is often used
on belt-driven cooling fans. Air conditioning compressors
typically are designed with a type of centrifugal pulley
clutch.
This type of clutch can naturally disengage the internal shaft
of the compressor from the pulley when it spins. An
electrical signal can then cause the clutch to reengage the
pulley to the shaft when the air conditioning is switched on.
17. OWC (One Way Clutch) pulley worked like a solid pulley at all
times except when the engine slowed down. This worked well
for a while, however engine size has decreased in some cars
while alternator size has increased. The OAD (Overrunning
Alternator Decoupler) pulley was designed to help with
increased issues with harshness and vibration problems. A
common question is “what is the difference between a one way
clutch pulley and an overrunning alternator decoupler pulley?”
The primary difference has to do with ONE major component
that is the TORSION SPRING . The torsion spring acts as a
dampening mechanism which greatly reduces belt vibration. The
OAD acts as a one way clutch but has the benefit of reduced
harshness thanks to the dampening action of the torsion spring.
Alternator De-coupler Pulleys

19. When many machines obtain the drive from a main
driving shaft, it may be required to run some machines
intermittently without having to Start and stop the main
driving shaft.
