Despite some negative social media reaction to a controversial scene in the season 5 finale of Game of Thrones, a survey found that most of the show's core fans have watched all five seasons and plan to watch season 6. 56% of HBO subscribers have watched Game of Thrones at some point. Of those viewers, 71% said they intend to watch the upcoming sixth season. While viewership dropped slightly after the first season and more so after the third season, the majority of Game of Thrones fans who started watching have seen every episode from all seasons released so far.

Back in may the final episode of game of thrones (got) season
five had social media trending with disdainful commentary about
the sansa stark/ramsay bolton wedding night scene, complete
with fans vowing to give up the show.
Now that the dust has settled, it appears that got’s core fan
base will not be holding a grudge. A recent EOVC survey shows
that the majority of got fans have watched all five seasons in
their entirety and plan to watch season six when it is released.
Of all hbo subscribers, 56% say they have ever watched got.
When asked if they plan to watch season six when it is released,
seven in ten got viewers said yes.
Among those ever watching the show, the majority have watched
every episode of the five seasons that have been released to
date. There does appear to have been some drop-off in interest
after the first season, and then again after season three,
possibly due to viewer frustration over the infamous “red
wedding” in episode 9 of that season.
