This document outlines key information about immunity and vaccination including:
1. It defines immunity as the body's ability to resist disease through antibodies.
2. It discusses different types of vaccines such as live, attenuated, killed, and toxoid vaccines.
3. It provides Egypt's immunization schedule from birth through 18 months including the vaccines given and typical reactions.
4. It covers important considerations for vaccine administration like checking for contraindications, proper storage and transportation to maintain the cold chain, and the role of community nurses in vaccination.

5. Process of protecting individual from a disease by
administration of live or killed attenuated
organisms to the individual system
6. Vaccination
is the injection of a killed or weakened organism
that produces immunity in the body against that
organism.
Vaccines are the antigenic
preparations used for active
immunization
7.
8. 1.Live vaccine:
It is prepared from live infectious agents without
any amendment (smallpox vaccine).
Types of vaccinesTypes of vaccines
9. 2. Live attenuated vaccines:
Attenuated organisms are used for
immunization against a number of viral
infections ( (MMR), opv, BCG (bacille
Calmette-Guerin (BCG) etc……..
11. 4-Toxiod
Certain organisms produce exotoxins
(diphtheria and tetanus) the produced
toxin losses toxicity but retaining its
antigenic power to stimulate
antibodies
• It is highly effective immunizing
agent.

13. Forthe vaccine
1.Check expiry date
2.Check colour and composition of vaccine as
specified in description of this vaccine.
3.Check vaccine to ensure the right product and
correct dose for children.
4.IM injections should be given with needle at a 90º
angle to the skin.
5.The skin should be stretched flat (NOT bunched).

– Offering cool liquids can help reduce fever.
– Dress the child in light clothes to help lower her
temperature.
– Encourage breast feeding that decrease body
temperature.
– Apply a cool washcloth to the injection site if your child
complains of pain or swelling.
– Teach the mother about the injection site to be sore or
tender for a few hours after the immunization.
Presenter notes:
Some of you may be wondering if and what immunizations are recommended for pregnant woman and whether it’s safe to get immunized during pregnancy. These next few slides will hopefully answer your questions. If you have further questions, we encourage you to talk to your health care provider.
Presenter notes:
Other immunizations are sometimes recommended for pregnant women depending on their immunization history, lifestyle, health status, risk of disease and travel plans. For example, the hepatitis B vaccine may be recommended in pregnant women with ongoing exposure risks, the hepatitis A vaccine may be recommended if a pregnant women is travelling to places where there is a risk for exposure to hepatitis A or if they are a close contact of a person with hepatitis A, and the pertussis (whooping cough) or meningococcal vaccine may be recommended in an outbreak setting.
An example: During the 2011/2012 pertussis outbreak in the Lower Mainland, the pertussis vaccine was recommended for all pregnant women, both to protect mothers (which helps reduce the risk of mothers transmitting pertussis to their newborns), and to protect their newborn infants (through transmission of maternal antibodies via the placenta). This helps keep infants safe during the first few months of life until they have completed their primary series. It was also recommended that partners and close contacts of pregnant women get vaccinated to help reduce the risk of spreading pertussis to pregnant women and their babies after birth.
Pregnant women should talk to their immunizing health care provider to find out which vaccines they might need, and whether they should get them during pregnancy or wait until after their baby is born.
If possible, it’s best to get make sure all of your routine immunizations are up-to-date before becoming pregnant. This is because some vaccine-preventable diseases, such as rubella, can pose a serious risk to your health and that of your unborn baby – but you can't get the vaccine to prevent rubella if you are currently pregnant.

Here are six great reasons to follow the routine immunization schedule:
The routine schedule is based on the best science of today
The routine is safe and works very well
You will ensure your baby is protected as soon as they can be
You will reduce your baby’s risk of anxiety and needle fear
The risk for side-effects is the same whether it’s one vaccine or four
You will reduce the number of visits and time spent getting their shots
