Bachelor of Science in Education: Elementary Education, December 2007
SUNY at Fredonia, Fredonia, NY
Virginia Licensure, Pre-K – 6, Valid through June 30, 2018
Continuing Education at the Graduate Level: Teaching Methods in Mathematics, Teaching Methods in
Reading, Developmental Psychology
PROFESSIONAL TEACHING EXPERIENCE
 Gloucester County Public Schools Aug. 2013- June 2014
Abingdon Elementary Hayes, VA
• I taught 1st
Grade with 25 students of various backgrounds and educational levels. Within my
class, the poverty rate was at 86%. My students ranged in reading levels from Pre-Kindergarten to
6th
Grade. I was responsible for teaching all subjects and strived to reach all of my students
through differentiated instruction and hands on learning experiences. My classroom’s reading
block implemented Daily 5 successfully and my reading scores improved significantly throughout
the year.
• PALS Committee March 2014
Selected for a committee to review and evaluate the PALS testing program in Virginia with 59
other teachers, as well as administrators, from around the state.
 Accomack County Public Schools Aug. 2008-June 2013
Metompkin Elementary School Parksley, VA
• I taught 4th
grade my first year teaching. I had 24 students, all from various backgrounds. I had a
33% ELL population, and a wide range of abilities within my class. I implemented a variety of
strategies to reach all of my students, including technology and math stations. I also, was
responsible for tracking data with Excel and preparing for state testing.
• I taught 2 years in a Pre-Kindergarten classroom. This class was made up of 18 four year olds, 15
of which spoke Spanish as their primary language. With the help of my Spanish-speaking aide,
we focused on letters, numbers, colors, and letter sounds, all while learning English in a full day
Pre-K program.
• I taught 2 years in a 1st
grade classroom, along side five other 1st
grade classrooms. We worked
hard as a team to implement any strategies we could to reach our wide variety of students. In my
classroom of 18 students, we had an 89% poverty rate, and 3 different languages were considered
as the students’ primary languages. My classroom was a pilot for technology, and was given a
SMART Board, a SMART Table, and numerous computers. I found that the students who
struggled with their language barriers, were very successful with the help of technology aids.
• FLY! Science Chair Spring 2012, Spring 2013
Head of the FLY! Science night. I created an event to help students learn about the scientific
method and how to create an experiment.
• Math Committee Spring 2011
Attended state meetings to learn about new standards and learning techniques, and gave a turn-
key presentation to other teachers in the county.
• ELL Committee Fall 2010
Completed courses on ELL instruction through ODU and worked with teachers in the county to
create techniques and activities that would work with our ELL population. Afterward I took part
in a summer learning academy to present these findings to other teachers.
 Elmira City Schools
