2007 -2012 The Rugby Football League
Position: National Facilities Manager
Primarily responsible for the management of Government funding and delivery of capital investment
programmes across the sport. Utilising extensive project management experience, I manage the
successful delivery of capital projects across the UK within strict budget and timescales and in
accordance with Government expectations. Duties include:
 Development of strategy and policy for the improvement of sports facilities delivered through the
RFL Facilities Trust Board
 Building and maintaining partnerships with Sport England, The Football Association, the Rugby
Football Union and the England & Wales Cricket Board in developing combined strategy, technical
guidance and funding priorities for pitch-based sports
 Developing and managing policies and protocols for project assessment and selection for capital
funding awards in compliance with regulatory controls for public funding and meeting the demands
of the National Audit Office
 Communicating to stakeholders and staff to ensure full understanding of facility requirements and
development plans
 Maintaining excellent customer service levels to volunteers and all stakeholders
Key projects:
 Worked in partnership to deliver multi-stakeholder approach to supporting volunteers and to
the delivery of long-term sustainable sporting offers
 Capital and revenue projects resulted in increases in participation numbers and in a better
quality of experience for players and volunteers
 Established a range of new technical standards including 3rd Generation Artificial Grass
Pitches for Rugby League
 Established a programme of Access Audits and action plans to support professional clubs in
understanding their regulatory responsibility to offer accessible facilities to all spectators and
to provide guidance on how to make the necessary improvements
2002 -2006 Golborne Parkside Sports and Community Club
Position: Club Development Officer (voluntary)
 Developed and delivered a project to fund the construction of a state-of-the-art sports facility
costing in excess of £1.1M and succeeded in securing over £1.25M in grants
 Managed the project to completion of the new clubhouse working with a team including an
Architects, Quantity Surveyors, Structural Engineers and Planning Consultants
 Developed business plans to ensure the new facilities would be sustainable and bring benefits to the
whole community. Established partnerships with a wide range of community groups, the public
sector and politicians
Delivered workshops and presentations on Funding and Facility Development on behalf of National
Governing Body

Position: North UK Information Technology Manager
 Managed the successful delivery of a project to centralise and rationalise the IT infrastructure of
Digital’s North UK offices into a major new office and conference centre. The budget for the project
was in excess of £10,000,000 and involved a large I.T. multi-disciplinary team and construction
industry professionals
 Delivered Human Resources and management support to the North West offices
 Managed the personal and professional development and performance of over 60 members of staff
across multiple teams and multiple business areas
 Successfully managed large projects using multi-disciplinary teams within budgets, relevant
timescales and to meet deadlines
 Managed the delivery of IT services to both external and internal customers
 Managed the delivery of I.T. services and Outsourcing to customers including British Aerospace, ICI,
Barclays Bank, Fisons and British Nuclear Fuel
 Developed and delivered a proposal for the introduction and implementation of new working
practices (including ‘hot-desking’ and home working)
 Managed the North UK section of the companies Intranet which was the largest in the world,
covering approximately half a million computer systems across 33 countries and was amongst the
first to network PCs and Windows Servers
 Managed Software and Sales units of Consultants who worked alongside Sales Teams providing pre-
sales support to customers and selling products
 Improved the quality of the IT service offered to our internal customers from a poor service to a
level where it was used by the Sales Force as an example of excellent IT practice

Position: System Manager
Managed the DEC computer systems, performing upgrades and maintenance operations. Resolved
customer queries and problems. Automated the operational and system management processes and
managed and monitored system performance and efficiency.
1980 – 1985 International Leisure Group
Began as a Reservations Clerk selling holidays to Travel Agencies, dealing with travel arrangements and
customer complaints. Successfully applied for an Operators position within the newly formed Computer
Department working on PDP 11/70 and VAX/VMS systems. Promoted to Shift Leader. Responsible for the
automation of most of the Operations Department’s daily tasks and procedures.
