PRESENTATION OF THE
PALAEOLITHIC PERIOD.
Let’s start
Daily life of the hunter peoples
•
The predatory economy
•
The first humans inhabited Africa
in torrid climate zones. But they
had to move around Europe and
Asia.
•
Their way of feeding was
predatory. It consisted on
collecting fruit and fishing and
hunting different animals.
•
The nomadic life.
•
They were constantly in
movement, place to place
following the animals that they
hunted.
•
SUMER: they lived in the open air.
•
WINTER: they tried to search
refuge in natural caves to eat
some provisions.
Images of Palaeolithic daily life.
TECHNOLOGICAL CONTRIBUTIONS AND
INVENTIONS
Stone tools: bifaces, arrow heads and knives.
They also made tools and weapons like fish hook and needles.
Fire: it was discovered 1.5 millions years ago, it provided light and heat.
It also favored social relations , as sitting around the fire.
Tribal society
•Society was structured by tribes consisting of twenty to thirty
people.
•It's possible that some people of the tribe had greater importance
than others: the strongest warrior, the shaman, the oldest
member or the healer.
Beliefs and spiritual life
•Belief in the power of natural elements, like the Sun, the Moon, the stars, the
rain, thunder, etc.
•Magic rituals: they created magic rituals to thank natural elements, because
they thought that the Sun, the Moon, the stars, the rain, thunder… were
gods, and they thought that they protected people form danger.
•Veneration of dead: they buried people with items like weapons,
adornments, amulets and food. It could seem that they believed in a life
after death.
The birth of art
•Portable art, consisted of moveable objects like Venus, small figures
of women wich represented the fertility.
