MENTORING - EVALUATING THE RELATIONSHIP
At pre-arranged times (e.g. 1, 3, 6 and 12 months – depends on frequency
of contacts and expectations determined at outset), it is recommended
that both the mentor and the mentee(s) individually complete a basic
evaluative tool.
Then, agree to devote a fixed amount of time at a meeting to review ALL
of the responses (you could do this entirely in conversation, or you could
share evaluations ahead of time by email, so the conversation would be to
clarify, expand upon, and/or to re-negotiate norms and expectations).

effectiveness of this mentoring relationship, thus far?
! On a scale of 1 to 10 (10 being best), how would you rate yourself as
a participant in this mentoring relationship?
! What has surprised you most, about this mentoring relationship or
how it is unfolding?
! What aspect of the mentoring relationship has had the biggest
impact on you, as a person or in the work you are doing?
! What has been your most difficult adjustment or biggest frustration,
given how the mentoring process is going?
! What change(s) do you recommend to improve the mentoring
effectiveness and to strengthen your partnership?
! What do you appreciate most, in this mentoring relationship?
