17. A New Semester Is Coming!
Level: all
Time: about 15 mins.
Step 1: Separate some of the books students will be
using next semester/year/level. Ideally, there should be
a book for every 3 students.
Step 2: Prepare a “treasure hunt” by going through the
topics and tasks in the units and selecting information
that might be interesting to your learners. E.g. ‘What’s
the reading in Unit 5 about?’, ‘In which unit can you find
a song by Beyoncé?’, etc.
Step 3: In small groups, learners go through the material
and fill in the treasure hunt task. The group that finishes
first and has the most answers correct, wins the hunt.
Step 4: If time allows, have a brief discussion about their
expectations and what may be making them nervous
about the next level. Also, this might be a good moment
to ask if there’s anything they’d like to review before the
semester is out.
