Welcome to the Fiesta!
Hello everyone and welcome to College Station, Texas.
Thank you to every one that came to attend the 35th annual
AJSA National Classic. I know it was a long drive for a lot of
people, but I can’t wait to show everyone the southern hospitality
that the state of Texas has to offer. I am truly blessed to have the
state board and advisors that I have and we all can’t wait to get
this week started. It has taken a lot of planning and organization
to make this week happen.
We have many fun activities planned for the juniors to
participate in after the educational events are done for the day,
including a fun run for the juniors to participate in on Tuesday
night. We also have a Sexing Technology tour for the juniors
and adults to partake in on Wednesday. We will also have a tour
around the A&M campus and Kyle Field on Thursday. We will
round out the week with a cowboy prom dance Friday night after
the show for all the juniors and adults.
I just want to say thank you to the AJSA and ASA for
letting the great state of Texas put on such an honorable task. It
takes a lot of hard work to put on a Junior Nationals, but I know
the TJSSA is up for the task. I can’t wait to interact with all the
juniors and their family that will be here for this amazing week
in College Station, Texas. Thank you to every one that
made the trip and can’t wait to get this week of educational con-
tests and cattle shows started.

5. American Junior Simmental Association members are constantly on the pursuit of excellence, whether it be
spending time reading up on the latest beef industry news or making long road trips in search of a new show
prospect. Lessons learned from showing cattle and AJSA events like public speaking prepare juniors for life
after the show ring. Some junior members may choose to join their family’s cattle operation after their junior
show career is over, others may attend trade schools for technical training which could lead directly into a
career. For junior members that opt to continue their education at four year universities, special consideration
needs to be given to choosing a college and major. With this in mind, perspective college students should take
time to explore their many options for continuing their education at the university level.
Luckily, the host city for the 2015 AJSA National Show is home to one of the top universities in the nation and
AJSA members should use this opportunity to see what the Texas Aggie Spirt is all about. Since 1876, Texas
A&M University has been developing leaders who are equipped to solve world issues while living life consis-
tent with the Aggie Honor System. Today, the university is home to 50,000 students pursuing degrees in 16
colleges and schools as well as many world renowned research programs. Student life includes 800 student
organizations, top ranked athletic programs, and many opportunities for professional development, all tucked
into a beautiful campus in the heart of the Brazos Valley.
An academic department that may be of special interest AJSA members is the College of Agriculture and Life
Sciences. Texas A&M University boasts the largest agricultural and natural resources college in the nation.
The College of Agriculture and Life Sciences is home to majors like animal science, biological and agricultural
engineering, and agricultural communications and journalism. However, regardless of a perspective student’s
interest, Texas A&M is a university that offers a world class education and also endless opportunities. Aggies
gain lifelong friends and develop a networking group of former students that spans the globe. Tours of the
Texas A&M University campus and Kyle Field are being offered during the national show on Thursday, July
9. AJSA members should attend the tour and consider becoming a Fightin’ Texas Aggie as part their lifelong
pursuit of excellence.

Cattleman’s Quiz
The Cattleman’s Quiz is one of my favorite
events of the week at junior nationals. It’s very easy
to be successful in this contest if you do just a few
simple things. The first thing that you should do
is look on the ASA website for the study materials
and study them as much as you can. Go over the
old tests and take a couple to see how you would
do on them. Make sure you know what is going on
within the AJSA this year as sometimes there are
questions pertaining to current AJSA events. On
contest day, when you go into the test room you
will find your age group’s test. The Trustees will tell
you when to begin and it is much like taking a test
at school. Make sure to go through the test slowly
reading every question clearly and making sure
you understand what the question is asking. Pick
the answer that you think is correct and fill in that
circle on your scantron. It doesn’t get much easier.
Also this year, if you are a younger member that
struggles with reading or comprehension there will
be a reading room with someone to read the ques-
tions to you. As with any contest, if a child has a
disability or needs special help with any contest, all
you have to do is let either an ASA staff member or
AJSA trustee know and we will help out to the best
of our abilities. I hope this helps and enjoy your
time at junior nationals this year. Thanks!
