1- Major Events In Buddhist History
2- Sacred Texts (Tripitaka)
 How it was founded:
 Siddhartha Gautama was born into a royal family where he wasn’t allowed to go
outside the palace. He was “blinded” from the concept of suffering. He grew up to
become a scholar and study philosophy. He eventually ran away and instantly he
found suffering out in the world and went to find a place in the government. No
position was meant for him so we went on and developed his own philosophy and
taught it to the people he came in counter with. He called it Buddhism. He later
went under a tree to meditate and he reached enlightment. He called himself the
Buddha now, the head of the religion.
 Conflict:
 There has been no major conflicts between Buddhists because they promote peace
and that is one of the key concepts of their religion.
 Other;
 In 528 B.C. the four noble truths which are the basis of the teachings were first
taught. 1-existence is suffering. 2-the cause of suffering is within the self. 3-an end
to suffering is possible. 4-following the Eightfold Path ends suffering and leads to
Nirvana.
 The Triputaka:
 This is one of the most important Buddhist sacred texts. It means “ three baskets”.
 Basket one- Vinaya Pitaka or discipline basket.
 2= Sutta Pitaka or discourse basket.
 3= Abhidharma Pitaka or higher knowledge or special teachings basket.
