These slides were presented at Cal Net Technology Group's 2010 Open House co-hosted by Microsoft. The event awarded attendees with the opportunity to take an inside look at 2010 IT trends, cost savings, and “greening” techniques.

11. In the before picture you have several servers not working all that hard but each is consuming electricity In the after example one server is powering all three servers workloads but consuming the electricity of just one machine
12. Have heat issues in your computer/server room? Heat is the #1 killer of electronic equipment, reducing its lifespan and causing outages With less servers, cooling needs are reduced.

Editor's Notes
Data provided by Vmware.com Server consolidation is the number one reason and success for virtualization. There is tremendous efficiency and cost savings when consolidating server infrastructure.
Today most people have servers and use tape based backups. These backups protect the data, but the system recovery process is long and slow. Often requiring a manual rebuild of the operating system and applications installed because any data can be restored and users put back to work. With Virtual Servers you can backup the “entire” server making the recovery process much much faster and accurate.
