The video I am going to analyse is David Lewis, Jack Harding,
Adam Bates, Will Mead doing Avicii - You make me.
3. This screen grab is evidence of where the camera is
shaky. This indicates that there is no controlled use of
the camera and therefore making it look very ammeter.
This would indicate that it would be a level 2 or very
low level 3 as the camera is not being controlled to the
high standard that it should be to reach a level 4.
4. The main protagonist in this video was
extremely awkward and not acting in the same
genre/atmosphere the song portrayed. This
made it look extremely unprofessional and this
is another reason why it did not get a Level 4.
5. There was a lot of amateur footage used
throughout the video. For example the tempo and
lyrics of the song had no relevance to a man
wearing a monkey onesie nor wiggling his backside
in front of the camera. The shots were meant to
make the viewer laugh because of the ‘fun’ sense
however this did not work to their advantage.
6. There is not a large range of different shot types within this music video. As
level 3 states there has to be a variety of shot sizes however this is not shown
in the video. There are no close ups of the star (Dave) and this therefore
means that they are unable to sell the main protagonist.
There is also not a lot of consideration to the mise en scene throughout the
video. As shown in these screen shots above in all of them Dave is wearing
jeans, a hoodie and a t-shirt.
7. Throughout the video there is a lot of repeat
footage. The above photos are evidence of this.
Although they are different angles of the same shot
they are repeated at different times of the music
video. For example the beginning, middle and end.
This portrays that they ran out of footage and
therefore had to use repeated shots.
8. There are many more edits used in the video. For
example the two different black and white effects
used do not coincide with the genre of their music
video.
9. Therefore after talking with my teacher and this
groups teacher as well, it is confirmed that they
was graded a low Level 3. The reasons for this
are highlighted in the previous slides.
Doing this research has allowed me to
understand what a poor music video’s codes and
conventions are, ensuring my group will not
make the same faults as they did.
