2. Once Upon a Time... Sound Like You?
● Went to school
● Worked hard
● Played by the rules
● Didn't complain
● Hoped you'd get "noticed" by management
● Believed you'd get the pay you deserved
TODAY: You're doing a job you don't love,
working for people you don't respect, and
wondering...
"Where did I go wrong?!"
4. You've Been Following the Wrong Rules!
● School doesn't teach you how to get the
job, or what career is right for you.
● Employers don't recognize you for
doing your job because they already
pay you to do it.
● The ONLY way to feel truly satisfied is
when you decide what you want and go
after it.
REALITY CHECK: Simply applying for
available jobs and taking what's out there is
outdated and career-limiting.
It's time to make your own rules!
6. Career Independence Means...
● Get paid fairly for your performance
with no cap on what you can earn.
● Ability to "design your destiny" in
terms of having a career that can
change as you change. (i.e. marriage,
children, etc.)
● Do something that helps others in their
lives and feel a sense of purpose and
meaning in your work.
● Work and learn from people you
respect. Better still, be your own boss!
8. Do You Act 'Entitled?' (Not Good!)
Entitled workers...
● Expect their employer to constantly
praise them.
● Make excuses and blame others
when they don't succeed.
● Want raises every year for showing
up on time and doing their work.
● Aren't willing to invest extra time
and money into their career as a
way to earn more later.
9. Or, Are You 'Enlightened?' (Very Good!)
Enlightened workers...
● See themselves as a business-of-
one who needs to keep their main
client happy.
● Plan ways to earn more money and
build partnerships to make it
happen.
● Invest in themselves and take
calculated risks as a way to grow
their business-of-one.
11. The Boiling Pot Theory Works!
You don't have to work 60 hours per week and
burn yourself out.
HOWEVER...
● You do need to work every day, using a
clear strategy.
● Career independence is earned through
consistent effort.
#1 reason people fail at creating career
independence...
They give up too early!
(It's not hard, but it takes patience.)
13. Consider Career Independence in the
Financial Industry!
Listed by More Magazine as one of the top 10 best
careers for women in 2012, women have HUGE
opportunities for career independence in the
financial industry.
14. Stay on This E-mail List To...

to shift away from career-limiting
mindsets and learn the right way for
women to create career
independence.

"If you do what you've always done, you'll
