BASEBALL
Baseball is a unique sport in many different ways. It is the only major competitive sport that has no time limit. The success of a player is determined
on how well he can play as an individual and how well the team plays along with him. There are many rules that determine the success of a player's
performance. A baseball game is played with two teams and each team is permitted 25 players per team; however this is only true for professional
teams. There are three parts to baseball: offense, pitching, and defense.
Each part has is completely different for each other, but to play the game each part must be involved.
The team on offense tries to score runs, while the pitching and defense tries to prevent the offense from scoring...show more content...
If a ball is hit over the wall then it is called a homerun and the player who hit it and anyone who is on base automatically scores. The offense is given
three outs every inning, there are usually nine innings in a game. There are cretin exceptions where there could be more or less then nine; if the game
is past the 5th inning and has to be stopped do to rain, the game would be stopped there. The only way for a game to go more then nine innings is if
the game is tied after nine full innings. The first line of defense against the offense is the pitching, thus making the pitcher the most important player on
the filed.
The pitcher job is to try and throw the ball past the player who's on offense. There is a defensive player behind the offensive player that catches the
ball if the offensive player can't hit it. The pitcher has to throw either make the hitter put the ball in play and attempt to get him out or he has to
throw the ball past the hitter 3 times. Each time he throws the ball past a hitter it's called a strike, three strikes and the hitter is out. A strike can also
be a foul ball; which is a ball that is hit, but not in the filed of play. Another way to get a strike is if the hitter doesn't swing at a pitch that is above his
knees and below his elbows and is above home plate. If the ball is not in that area then it's called a ball, four balls and the player automatically gets a
free pass to first base. The last line of defense is

An interesting fact that I found while researching my topic is that when fielding a grounder, you should always begin with your glove all the way
on the ground. If the ball takes a hop, you can bring your glove up to it even if you misjudge, odds are excellent that your top hand and/or your body
will block the ball and keep it from going past. It took me a while to realize this myself. And what I am struggling with at this point is finding more
reliable sources. A wise man once said "You can have all the physical ability in the world, but you still have to know the fundamentals" (Fundamentals
Quotes). The greatest and most talented players in the world still have to learn and know the fundamentals to play the game. Fundamentals are the
basics, just the simple basics of the sport, and how to play the game. The important fundamentals of baseball include hitting, fielding, throwing, and
also base running. Many people believe that hitting is where it begins. According to an old coach "The main part of baseball that brings people in
to the game is hitting. Some have seen professionals do it on TV and others have seen it in person. But as for hitting it is the major part of baseball
for many players." ("Main"). Another coach agrees going as far as saying "A successful player must be able to hit the ball." ("Basic") Hitting is not
just a part of the game; hitting is the game. Hitting is the main and most important part of the game of baseball. Hitting the baseball is what will

Major League Baseball: A Case Study
Baseball is one of America's famous sports and every child is brought in an environment that encourages playing the game. So many people take time
to attend games and sometimes controversial calls are made by umpires and the coaches are hesitant to challenge the calls due to insufficient
evidence. A lot of the plays happen so fast and some of the rule violations may be too fast for the naked eye to see. With that being said, the Major
League Baseball association has adopted the use an intricate piece of technology called the Hawk–Eye which enables major league team coaches to see
quick replays and allows the team coaches to make quick decisions on whether to challenge a call or not. The Hawk–Eye replay gives the coaches

As a league they want to grow not only locally, but globally, which is why the society as a whole has the power to make that possible. Looking at
some international countries like India with cricket being their main sport with rules similar to baseball, but don't have the finances to pay as much as
MLB would be interested in sending some potential pitchers/bowlers to baseball, but if the society is not properly informed about for example, the
level of intensity, recruiting will be at risk. This is why MLB recently came up with MLB.com Digital Academy similar to Hawk–Eye which basically
brings resources to parents, youth players and coaches informing them about players swing analysis and professional level–pitch. In terms of
globalization this will help countries like India trust the capabilities of the system and instruct them on what they are expected to do and protect their
investments.
Lastly, an important factor to consider would be the introduction of fantasy sports which is slowly growing because of fans in the society willing to
invest in different sports like Baseball and Football. Technology such as Hawk–Eye and Digital Academy will encourage fans to place their bets wisely
after evaluating the given statistics about each players' consistency if for example, they could not catch a few games, which some would say is similar
to betting on horses, but this time with better odds and higher return on

Abner Doubleday: The Great Game Of Baseball
There are many question about how the great game of baseball originally started and how it has grown to become Americas game that so many of
us enjoy so much as little kids until till we die. Baseball is one of the only games today where the rules of the game have stayed the same since a
guy named Abner Doubleday first evolved the game in 1845. Then he went on to be a Civil War hero shortly after as the game ofBaseball became
Americas beloved national pastime. Every father loves getting to share his child's first experience with baseball and playing catch with him for
their first time. The history behind the game has such a humbling expression towards the game of baseball, which was first known as "rounder"
earlier in the 1840's in England until it was brought over in the US. In 1871 the Major League was born and by the 20th century most large cities
in the US had professional baseball teams. The teams where divided into two leagues, American and National. During the season those teams would
only play the teams in their leagues. Teams that succeeded the best during their season win what are called the "pennant" and those teams would
meet in what is still to this day called the "World Series". Baseball became of age in the early 1920's; When Babe Ruth became a phenomenon at the
game of baseball. Many wanted to fallow his footstep and become a great hero; such as the great Jackie Robinson did who was the first African
American to play major league baseball. Prior to

Passion Baseball the game I love, Is filled with enthusiasm and excitement. Two teams opposed in red and, one in blue. This is a thinking game you,
you can trick the batters by throwing 2 fastballs then throw them off balance with a breaking ball, next strike three you're!! out!! The game is slow–
paced game of pitching , catching , infield work or outfield. Also, you can get a hit, walk, run, or strike out. Hang your head to a loss take a bow or

Worldwide, sports celebrities like Kobe Bryant, Michael Jordan, Magic Johnson, Lebron James and the like, would lead a lot of people to think that
basketball is the premiere sport in the US. Well, that is an incorrect impression. Baseball is the number one sport in the US, and Major League
Baseball (MLB) is considered to be American professional baseball's highest level of play. The MLB is actually a joint organizational structure that
has operated both the American League and the national League since 1903. It is composed of thirty teams. All thirty teams are from the US except
for one from Canada. The American League and the national League have the same rules and regulations except for one. The former uses the
Designated Hitter Rule while the latter does not. The American League has 14 teams while the national League has 16 teams. Each...show more

This is because players can easily reach 4 to 50 home runs in a season. This is in great contrast to the dead–ball era. Thus came the "phantom pitch"
called the gyroball. This type of pitch was called such because although it is quite effective, very few can do it, like college player Joey Niezer and
Boston Red Sox pitcher Daisuke Matsuzaka. Another interesting bit of trivia regarding baseball is the first team to wear a baseball uniform, the
New York Knickerbockers. It happened on April 4, 1849 and the uniforms they wore were made of white flannel shirts, blue wool pants and straw
hats. By 1900, all teams in the Major League wore uniforms. In 2005, following the steroid scandal in baseball wherein there were allegations of the
MLB top players using illegal, performance enhancing drugs, stricter policies regarding steroid use were implemented. The policy suspends players
for 10 games for first time offenders, 30 games for second time offenders, 60 games for third, one full year for fourth time offenders and a penalty
depending on the Commissioner's discretion for the fifth time

Baseball History Essay
The origins of baseball have been the subject of debate for more than a century. Baseball and the other modern bat and ball running games like,
cricket and rounders, were developed from folk games in England. Early forms of baseball had a number of names, including "baseball," "goal ball,"
"round ball," "fletch–catch," "stool ball," and simply, "base." In one version of the game, teams pitched to themselves and runners went around the
bases in the opposite direction that they do in today's game. Players also could be put out by being hit with the ball just as now, in some versions a
batter was called out on three strikes. There isn't much that you need for the sport all you really need a bat, ball, leather gloves optional something
to signify where the bases are, and the last thing is a team. In a team, there is a coach and 9 players for each spot. There is 3 outfielders, 3 basemen, 1
short man, a pitcher, and lastly a catcher. The basic gist of the game is that you need to get the most points by running...show more content...
If you're ok with that disgusting stuff you must really love the sport that or maybe you're just crazy. To me, there is no sport I would be willing to
watch in a stadium with hundreds of people. Sports might just not be my thing or maybe I just haven't found the right sport even though I have
tried more things than most people. I have been to a few baseball games a lot of them were from when I was in elementary school but a few of
them were when I was in middle school and one this year. I have only watched the cubs games because my biological dad liked them even though
they were a terrible team. But even when I was younger I never like the idea of a baseball team or game they are in my opinion very boring just like

Origins Of Baseball Essay
Origins of Baseball Baseball is one of America's oldest sports and changed through history. It started in the late 1800s. People consider it as
America's pastime because people have grown up playing it. Another reason is because it has so many traditions. Baseball had a small amount of
teams and then grew over time. There are legends who are considered the best. There is records that look impossible to break and traditions that
will never be stopped. Like when people sing "Take Me Out to the Ballgame." in the 7th inning. Also when people throw the Ceremonial First Pitch.
Baseball is one of America's most popular sports and interesting to study who were the original teams and who discovered it and how has it changed.
To understand who discovered baseball and original teams, historians have looked into the history. It is said that Abner Doubleday created baseball
but that was a myth created by a Colorado miner. Actually what happened was there was different variations of the game being played in different
locations. In the end they chose the New York version. The other versions of the game were played in...show more content...
In the MLB there used to be only white people playing. African Americans had their own league called the Negro League. One reason that changed
was because white people and black people fought side by side during the wars so the pressure to integrate baseball grew. They were trying to find
the right person to be the first African American in the MLB. Some people they thought about were Satchel Paige, Silvio Garcia, and Josh Gibson.
Although in the end they chose Jackie Robinson. Jackie Robinson played with the Brooklyn Dodgers his whole career. Now we celebrate him on a
certain day. John Wright became the second African American in baseball. It also affected other sports like in the NFL the LA Rams signed Kenny
Washington. Then all the other sports allowed them to

Baseball is the Greatest Game Ever Invented
Baseball is the greatest sport ever invented. There are many sports that are interesting and entertaining to spectate and play, yet nothing can compare to
be as fun as baseball. Baseball is a sport that a lot of people have really loved and fared extremely passionate about throughout its history. Baseball is
the greatest game ever invented because of it competitiveness, fans, and of their motto "it's not over until it's over".
Difficulty is something that exists in all sports at different levels. Every sport has its own challenging and unique set of difficulties. However, baseball

You have to play the game till it is finished. A suspense of the opposite team making a comeback is always present during a baseball game. Every
team must play every out of every game, they cannot simply run out the clock because a clock in baseball does not exist.
Many people would argue that baseball is a very boring or uninteresting sport. Baseball, however, is not a boring sport at all. "There are about 18
minutes of live play in an average baseball game, according to a Wall Street Journal analysis; there are only 11 minutes of action in a single
football game. If baseball is boring because nothing happens, then football must be the sports equivalent of Waiting For Godot." Baseball has
proven to be the most delightful physical sport due to its competitiveness, entertainment, and its many awed spectators. I agree that baseball is the
greatest game ever invented. Baseball can be slow and at some times boring, but every sport contains a boring part within it. Baseball creates a ton of
history every single day. The atmospheres at a baseball park is so awesome, especially in a big game like the world

Baseball As A Baseball Game
Baseball is a slow sport to watch if you're a spectator watching the game. It may even be slow while playing the sport. As I'm watching the boys get
ready to start practice, I see conservations going on within the baseball team. I see the boys joking around and having a good time before practice.
Then, you see Coach Asmus walk up and the boys get very silent and immediately start stretching. While, the boys are stretching, the boys are very
quiet and you see all the happiness go away. Seeing all the laughter and happiness leave the boys faces was really sad to witness. After, the boys
have finished their stretching they go run their foul poles. Some boys we're really pushing themselves when it came to running their foul poles.
While, others slowly run their foul pole and even some boys walked. Coach Asmus yells, "Come on boys. This is ridiculous." The boys took what
Coach Asmus said like they didn't even hear him. Coach Asmus you can tell at this point that he is annoyed. Coach Asmus gathers them all up
together before taking infield and outfield. Coach Asmus tells them, "We HAVE to take this practice seriously. We have a BIG game tomorrow."
One of the players ask and his name is Morgan, "What can we do to win tomorrow?" Coach Asmus says, "Let's start by ALL of us working hard and
giving it our 100%." "Yes sir." The boys say together. The boys start running to their positions on the field, ready to officially start practice. As the
boys are taking their infield and outfield

I love watching baseball. While growing up, my favorite days of summer were spent in the red plastic seats of Fenway Park, holding a dripping cone of
soft serve, belting out the lyrics to "Sweet Caroline" alongside my family. Regardless of my appreciation for baseball, I never actually played baseball,
softball, or T–ball; instead, I opted to watch the game from the sidelines. My infatuation with watching baseball coupled with my involvement in my
school's Global Certificate Program, sparked my desire to host a baseball student from Tennoji High School in Osaka, Japan. Initially, I joined the
Tennoji Exchange's planning board, where I organized field trips across Massachusetts––most of them baseball–related––for the exchange students.
However, as I gained insight into the program, I decided to apply to serve as a host sibling. Once accepted into the program, I received a file
describing my future host sibling, Natsuki. Studying the file, I found us to be stark contrasts of each other. She speaks Japanese and a little
English; I speak English and no Japanese. She loves baking cakes, while I am allergic to gluten. She serves as her school's baseball team manager
and plays softball, and though I love watching baseball, I spend my time running for my school's track and cross country team. Despite our initial
differences, I eagerly awaited her arrival in America. In late March the day finally came. I stood in the Hingham High School cafeteria, clustered

Baseball, Baseball And Softball
When it comes to Baseball and Softball, these two sports have many similarities, but yet differ in many areas of the game. It insists, "Softball is often
referred to baseball for girls, with a larger ball and aa smaller diamond" (History of Softball). Even though there may be some truth about that statement,
it doesn't mean that's the only difference between the two. When it comes down to it, both sports have specific field requirements, equipment, rules and
future occupations. Baseball has special field requirements for the different levels of baseball. The general levels of baseball include little league,
pony, high school, college, and professional. Even though high school, college, and professional are different levels of baseball they have almost
the same field regulations. The baseline is the distance between bases, each base is exactly 90 feet apart from one another in a diamond shape and
there is four bases total. The pitcher's mound has to be 60 feet 6 inches away from home base. From home plate to the backstop needs to be about 60
feet. The outfield consists of three sections; left field, center field, and right field. The left and right field can be from 320 feet up to 350 feet, while
center field can be up to 400+ feet away from home plate (Frazier). These are the general regulations every baseball field needs to acquire before
becoming a legal baseball field for high school, college, and professional players to be able to play on. There are many little

Baseball And The Game Of Baseball
Baseball to most it just a simple game that involves one just throwing a ball, another hitting it, and then another catching it, but it's much more than
that. The ability to hit a baseball three hundred plus feet, that's coming at you at speeds greater than 85 mph, is hard to attain. Now imagine trying to
catch a ball that's coming at the same speeds, not so easy now right? Apart from the physical abilities needed to play, the mental part of the game is also
important. The game of baseball is similar to life if you're not prepared physically and mentally to go about your business you won't succeed.
I've been playing baseball since I let out my first cries. For me baseball is a battleground. The side that is better prepared and executes well is the
one who usually wins. Just like how you don't go out to war without any training, the same goes for baseball you don't go and just play baseball.
Practice in general is important for anything that you do; it allows you to experience a situation during a time where it's not important. I can't recall a
time where I didn't practice and performed during a game. Baseball has taught me that if I want to succeed you have to prepare yourself. It doesn't
just happen. In terms of school, imagine going to take an exam without sort of studying you won't do so well. Apart from practice, which prepares you
physically, if you're not mentally right, you won't do so well.
The mental part of the game is the most important part. Baseball is

Baseball As I sat and watched the college world series this weekend I began to wonder about baseball and several questions came to mind: where
did we get the game of baseball? Who should we give credit to for the formation of the game we see today? How has it withstood the tests of
wartime? And what helped this game thrive to what it is today, the nation's pastime? Baseball grew out of various ball and stick games that had been
played throughout the United States during the first half of the 19th century. It was a game that was played in small towns to big cities, people of all
ages played and of all social classes. Common laborers would play with bank presidents and doctors. During the Civil War both Yankee and Rebel

The Knickerbocker Base Ball Club was the first of its kind and it made the child's game of "town ball" into an adult sport that has turned into our
nations pastime. The Knickerbocker Club first increased the distance between bases to 90 feet. " Second, they brought the game an adult sense of
order by dividing the field into fair and foul territory, narrowing the hitter's range to the space between the foul lines and reducing the number of
defensive players needed." Idea, (2). Third, the Knickerbockers got rid of the old rule of throwing the ball at a player to get them out. This made the
game safer and enabled them to use a harder ball, which made it a faster sharper game. "As American as apple pie, baseball served as a morale booster
and a poignant reminder of back–home traditions for GIs serving overseas in World War II and the national pastime helped many to forget the daily
horrors they faced in combat." History, (1). These young men sent overseas to live the rough military life didn't have much to keep them going. One
thing they all shared a passion for was baseball, the infantrymen, airmen, and sailors all loved to play baseball. They would create a makeshift
baseball diamond where a picked lineup would play the game that let them forget about the troubles they'd faced and the troubles that lie ahead. From
London to Berlin they played impressing all whom watched. And even with the war going on baseball was

In each half of an inning one team bats while the other plays the field. If the score is tied after nine innings are over then the game is continued
into extra innings and is concluded when one team is winning after an extra inning. These are the basic rules of baseball. THE FIELD AND
EQUIPMENT Baseball is played on a field, which usually covers about two acres. The field is divided into an infield and an outfield. These two
parts are considered fair territory and the rest of the field is considered foul. The infield is in the shape of a diamond and is 90 ft on each side. One
point of the diamond is home plate which batters hit from. The other three points are bases: first, second, and third base. In the middle of the
diamond is a pitchers mound which is slightly raised off the ground. The edges of the diamond from home plate to first base and home plate to
third base are the foul lines, which extend all the way to the wall in the outfield. Behind first base is right field, behind second base is called center
field, and behind third base is called left field. Fences are placed at the farthest limits in the outfield. In foul territory beyond the foul lines in the
infield are dugouts where players sit when they are not playing or waiting to bat. Baseball also consists of many pieces of equipment. Baseball

History of Baseball The start of the game of baseball is unknown, but some people believe they know when it started. The game of baseball believes
to start in England. The start of baseball was around 1760, the game was called Rounder. Rounder had the same rules as baseball today, but it had its
difference. The biggest difference was that a fielder had to throw the ball at the runner to get them out. The game changed in 1845. A group of
people got together to talk about the game. They wanted to make the game safer. They changed the rules of the fielder. He would not throw at the
baserunner anymore; they must tag the baserunner with the ball. The equipment changed as well when they made the rule change. They started to
use a harder ball. The game of baseball became an organized sport in 1840 and 1850. Baseball is becoming more popular in America. For example,
by 1860 the sport took the crown of America favorite sport over England cricket. Baseball han't always been an economic powerhouse. By the 1869,

Baseball Essay

  • 1. Baseball Essay BASEBALL Baseball is a unique sport in many different ways. It is the only major competitive sport that has no time limit. The success of a player is determined on how well he can play as an individual and how well the team plays along with him. There are many rules that determine the success of a player's performance. A baseball game is played with two teams and each team is permitted 25 players per team; however this is only true for professional teams. The offense is given three outs every inning, there are usually nine innings in a game. There are cretin exceptions where there could be more or less then nine; if the game is past the 5th inning and has to be stopped do to rain, the game would be stopped there. The only way for a game to go more then nine innings is if the game is tied after nine full innings. The first line of defense against the offense is the pitching, thus making the pitcher the most important player on the filed. The pitcher job is to try and throw the ball past the player who's on offense. There is a defensive player behind the offensive player that catches the ball if the offensive player can't hit it. The pitcher has to throw either make the hitter put the ball in play and attempt to get him out or he has to throw the ball past the hitter 3 times. Each time he throws the ball past a hitter it's called a strike, three strikes and the hitter is out. A strike can also be a foul ball; which is a ball that is hit, but not in the filed of play. Another way to get a strike is if the hitter doesn't swing at a pitch that is above his knees and below his elbows and is above home plate. If the ball is not in that area then it's called a ball, four balls and the player automatically gets a free pass to first base. The last line of defense is Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 2. Essay on Baseball An interesting fact that I found while researching my topic is that when fielding a grounder, you should always begin with your glove all the way on the ground. If the ball takes a hop, you can bring your glove up to it even if you misjudge, odds are excellent that your top hand and/or your body will block the ball and keep it from going past. It took me a while to realize this myself. And what I am struggling with at this point is finding more reliable sources. A wise man once said "You can have all the physical ability in the world, but you still have to know the fundamentals" (Fundamentals Quotes). The greatest and most talented players in the world still have to learn and know the fundamentals to play the game. Fundamentals are the basics, just the simple basics of the sport, and how to play the game. The important fundamentals of baseball include hitting, fielding, throwing, and also base running. Many people believe that hitting is where it begins. According to an old coach "The main part of baseball that brings people in to the game is hitting. Some have seen professionals do it on TV and others have seen it in person. But as for hitting it is the major part of baseball for many players." ("Main"). Another coach agrees going as far as saying "A successful player must be able to hit the ball." ("Basic") Hitting is not just a part of the game; hitting is the game. Hitting is the main and most important part of the game of baseball. Hitting the baseball is what will Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 3. Major League Baseball: A Case Study Baseball is one of America's famous sports and every child is brought in an environment that encourages playing the game. So many people take time to attend games and sometimes controversial calls are made by umpires and the coaches are hesitant to challenge the calls due to insufficient evidence. A lot of the plays happen so fast and some of the rule violations may be too fast for the naked eye to see. With that being said, the Major League Baseball association has adopted the use an intricate piece of technology called the Hawk–Eye which enables major league team coaches to see quick replays and allows the team coaches to make quick decisions on whether to challenge a call or not. The Hawk–Eye replay gives the coaches substantial evidence...show more content... As a league they want to grow not only locally, but globally, which is why the society as a whole has the power to make that possible. Looking at some international countries like India with cricket being their main sport with rules similar to baseball, but don't have the finances to pay as much as MLB would be interested in sending some potential pitchers/bowlers to baseball, but if the society is not properly informed about for example, the level of intensity, recruiting will be at risk. This is why MLB recently came up with MLB.com Digital Academy similar to Hawk–Eye which basically brings resources to parents, youth players and coaches informing them about players swing analysis and professional level–pitch. In terms of globalization this will help countries like India trust the capabilities of the system and instruct them on what they are expected to do and protect their investments. Lastly, an important factor to consider would be the introduction of fantasy sports which is slowly growing because of fans in the society willing to invest in different sports like Baseball and Football. Technology such as Hawk–Eye and Digital Academy will encourage fans to place their bets wisely after evaluating the given statistics about each players' consistency if for example, they could not catch a few games, which some would say is similar to betting on horses, but this time with better odds and higher return on Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 4. Abner Doubleday: The Great Game Of Baseball There are many question about how the great game of baseball originally started and how it has grown to become Americas game that so many of us enjoy so much as little kids until till we die. Baseball is one of the only games today where the rules of the game have stayed the same since a guy named Abner Doubleday first evolved the game in 1845. Then he went on to be a Civil War hero shortly after as the game ofBaseball became Americas beloved national pastime. Every father loves getting to share his child's first experience with baseball and playing catch with him for their first time. The history behind the game has such a humbling expression towards the game of baseball, which was first known as "rounder" earlier in the 1840's in England until it was brought over in the US. In 1871 the Major League was born and by the 20th century most large cities in the US had professional baseball teams. The teams where divided into two leagues, American and National. During the season those teams would only play the teams in their leagues. Teams that succeeded the best during their season win what are called the "pennant" and those teams would meet in what is still to this day called the "World Series". Baseball became of age in the early 1920's; When Babe Ruth became a phenomenon at the game of baseball. Many wanted to fallow his footstep and become a great hero; such as the great Jackie Robinson did who was the first African American to play major league baseball. • 5. Sample Baseball Research Paper Passion Baseball the game I love, Is filled with enthusiasm and excitement. Two teams opposed in red and, one in blue. This is a thinking game you, you can trick the batters by throwing 2 fastballs then throw them off balance with a breaking ball, next strike three you're!! out!! The game is slow– paced game of pitching , catching , infield work or outfield. Also, you can get a hit, walk, run, or strike out. Hang your head to a loss take a bow or thank god, if you win or lose. Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 6. Professional Baseball Essay Worldwide, sports celebrities like Kobe Bryant, Michael Jordan, Magic Johnson, Lebron James and the like, would lead a lot of people to think that basketball is the premiere sport in the US. Well, that is an incorrect impression. Baseball is the number one sport in the US, and Major League Baseball (MLB) is considered to be American professional baseball's highest level of play. The MLB is actually a joint organizational structure that has operated both the American League and the national League since 1903. It is composed of thirty teams. All thirty teams are from the US except for one from Canada. The American League and the national League have the same rules and regulations except for one. The former uses the Designated Hitter Rule while the latter does not. The American League has 14 teams while the national League has 16 teams. Each...show more content... This is because players can easily reach 4 to 50 home runs in a season. This is in great contrast to the dead–ball era. Thus came the "phantom pitch" called the gyroball. This type of pitch was called such because although it is quite effective, very few can do it, like college player Joey Niezer and Boston Red Sox pitcher Daisuke Matsuzaka. Another interesting bit of trivia regarding baseball is the first team to wear a baseball uniform, the New York Knickerbockers. It happened on April 4, 1849 and the uniforms they wore were made of white flannel shirts, blue wool pants and straw hats. By 1900, all teams in the Major League wore uniforms. In 2005, following the steroid scandal in baseball wherein there were allegations of the MLB top players using illegal, performance enhancing drugs, stricter policies regarding steroid use were implemented. The policy suspends players for 10 games for first time offenders, 30 games for second time offenders, 60 games for third, one full year for fourth time offenders and a penalty depending on the Commissioner's discretion for the fifth time Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 7. Baseball History Essay The origins of baseball have been the subject of debate for more than a century. Baseball and the other modern bat and ball running games like, cricket and rounders, were developed from folk games in England. Early forms of baseball had a number of names, including "baseball," "goal ball," "round ball," "fletch–catch," "stool ball," and simply, "base." In one version of the game, teams pitched to themselves and runners went around the bases in the opposite direction that they do in today's game. Players also could be put out by being hit with the ball just as now, in some versions a batter was called out on three strikes. There isn't much that you need for the sport all you really need a bat, ball, leather gloves optional something to signify where the bases are, and the last thing is a team. In a team, there is a coach and 9 players for each spot. There is 3 outfielders, 3 basemen, 1 short man, a pitcher, and lastly a catcher. The basic gist of the game is that you need to get the most points by running...show more content... If you're ok with that disgusting stuff you must really love the sport that or maybe you're just crazy. To me, there is no sport I would be willing to watch in a stadium with hundreds of people. Sports might just not be my thing or maybe I just haven't found the right sport even though I have tried more things than most people. I have been to a few baseball games a lot of them were from when I was in elementary school but a few of them were when I was in middle school and one this year. I have only watched the cubs games because my biological dad liked them even though they were a terrible team. But even when I was younger I never like the idea of a baseball team or game they are in my opinion very boring just like every other Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 8. Origins Of Baseball Essay Origins of Baseball Baseball is one of America's oldest sports and changed through history. It started in the late 1800s. People consider it as America's pastime because people have grown up playing it. Another reason is because it has so many traditions. Baseball had a small amount of teams and then grew over time. There are legends who are considered the best. There is records that look impossible to break and traditions that will never be stopped. It is said that Abner Doubleday created baseball but that was a myth created by a Colorado miner. Actually what happened was there was different variations of the game being played in different locations. In the end they chose the New York version. The other versions of the game were played in...show more content... In the MLB there used to be only white people playing. African Americans had their own league called the Negro League. One reason that changed was because white people and black people fought side by side during the wars so the pressure to integrate baseball grew. They were trying to find the right person to be the first African American in the MLB. Some people they thought about were Satchel Paige, Silvio Garcia, and Josh Gibson. Although in the end they chose Jackie Robinson. Jackie Robinson played with the Brooklyn Dodgers his whole career. Now we celebrate him on a certain day. John Wright became the second African American in baseball. It also affected other sports like in the NFL the LA Rams signed Kenny Washington. Then all the other sports allowed them to Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 9. Why Is Baseball Important Essay Baseball is the Greatest Game Ever Invented Baseball is the greatest sport ever invented. There are many sports that are interesting and entertaining to spectate and play, yet nothing can compare to be as fun as baseball. Baseball is a sport that a lot of people have really loved and fared extremely passionate about throughout its history. Baseball is the greatest game ever invented because of it competitiveness, fans, and of their motto "it's not over until it's over". Difficulty is something that exists in all sports at different levels. Every sport has its own challenging and unique set of difficulties. However, baseball is the most difficult sport from the large list of sports. One aspect of baseball is pitching. These balls that are thrown...show more content... You have to play the game till it is finished. A suspense of the opposite team making a comeback is always present during a baseball game. Every team must play every out of every game, they cannot simply run out the clock because a clock in baseball does not exist. Many people would argue that baseball is a very boring or uninteresting sport. Baseball, however, is not a boring sport at all. "There are about 18 minutes of live play in an average baseball game, according to a Wall Street Journal analysis; there are only 11 minutes of action in a single football game. If baseball is boring because nothing happens, then football must be the sports equivalent of Waiting For Godot." Baseball has proven to be the most delightful physical sport due to its competitiveness, entertainment, and its many awed spectators. I agree that baseball is the greatest game ever invented. Baseball can be slow and at some times boring, but every sport contains a boring part within it. Baseball creates a ton of history every single day. The atmospheres at a baseball park is so awesome, especially in a big game like the world Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 10. Baseball As A Baseball Game Baseball is a slow sport to watch if you're a spectator watching the game. It may even be slow while playing the sport. As I'm watching the boys get ready to start practice, I see conservations going on within the baseball team. I see the boys joking around and having a good time before practice. Then, you see Coach Asmus walk up and the boys get very silent and immediately start stretching. While, the boys are stretching, the boys are very quiet and you see all the happiness go away. Seeing all the laughter and happiness leave the boys faces was really sad to witness. After, the boys have finished their stretching they go run their foul poles. Some boys we're really pushing themselves when it came to running their foul poles. While, others slowly run their foul pole and even some boys walked. Coach Asmus yells, "Come on boys. This is ridiculous." The boys took what Coach Asmus said like they didn't even hear him. Coach Asmus you can tell at this point that he is annoyed. Coach Asmus gathers them all up together before taking infield and outfield. Coach Asmus tells them, "We HAVE to take this practice seriously. We have a BIG game tomorrow." One of the players ask and his name is Morgan, "What can we do to win tomorrow?" Coach Asmus says, "Let's start by ALL of us working hard and giving it our 100%." "Yes sir." The boys say together. The boys start running to their positions on the field, ready to officially start practice. As the boys are taking their infield and outfield Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 11. I love watching baseball. While growing up, my favorite days of summer were spent in the red plastic seats of Fenway Park, holding a dripping cone of soft serve, belting out the lyrics to "Sweet Caroline" alongside my family. Regardless of my appreciation for baseball, I never actually played baseball, softball, or T–ball; instead, I opted to watch the game from the sidelines. My infatuation with watching baseball coupled with my involvement in my school's Global Certificate Program, sparked my desire to host a baseball student from Tennoji High School in Osaka, Japan. Initially, I joined the Tennoji Exchange's planning board, where I organized field trips across Massachusetts––most of them baseball–related––for the exchange students. However, as I gained insight into the program, I decided to apply to serve as a host sibling. Once accepted into the program, I received a file describing my future host sibling, Natsuki. Studying the file, I found us to be stark contrasts of each other. She speaks Japanese and a little English; I speak English and no Japanese. She loves baking cakes, while I am allergic to gluten. She serves as her school's baseball team manager and plays softball, and though I love watching baseball, I spend my time running for my school's track and cross country team. Despite our initial differences, I eagerly awaited her arrival in America. In late March the day finally came. I stood in the Hingham High School cafeteria, clustered among my Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 12. Baseball, Baseball And Softball When it comes to Baseball and Softball, these two sports have many similarities, but yet differ in many areas of the game. It insists, "Softball is often referred to baseball for girls, with a larger ball and aa smaller diamond" (History of Softball). Even though there may be some truth about that statement, it doesn't mean that's the only difference between the two. When it comes down to it, both sports have specific field requirements, equipment, rules and future occupations. Baseball has special field requirements for the different levels of baseball. The general levels of baseball include little league, pony, high school, college, and professional. Even though high school, college, and professional are different levels of baseball they have almost the same field regulations. The baseline is the distance between bases, each base is exactly 90 feet apart from one another in a diamond shape and there is four bases total. • 13. Baseball And The Game Of Baseball Baseball to most it just a simple game that involves one just throwing a ball, another hitting it, and then another catching it, but it's much more than that. The ability to hit a baseball three hundred plus feet, that's coming at you at speeds greater than 85 mph, is hard to attain. Now imagine trying to catch a ball that's coming at the same speeds, not so easy now right? Apart from the physical abilities needed to play, the mental part of the game is also important. The game of baseball is similar to life if you're not prepared physically and mentally to go about your business you won't succeed. I've been playing baseball since I let out my first cries. For me baseball is a battleground. The side that is better prepared and executes well is the one who usually wins. Just like how you don't go out to war without any training, the same goes for baseball you don't go and just play baseball. Practice in general is important for anything that you do; it allows you to experience a situation during a time where it's not important. I can't recall a time where I didn't practice and performed during a game. Baseball has taught me that if I want to succeed you have to prepare yourself. It doesn't just happen. In terms of school, imagine going to take an exam without sort of studying you won't do so well. Apart from practice, which prepares you physically, if you're not mentally right, you won't do so well. The mental part of the game is the most important part. Idea, (2). Third, the Knickerbockers got rid of the old rule of throwing the ball at a player to get them out. This made the game safer and enabled them to use a harder ball, which made it a faster sharper game. History, (1). These young men sent overseas to live the rough military life didn't have much to keep them going. One thing they all shared a passion for was baseball, the infantrymen, airmen, and sailors all loved to play baseball. They would create a makeshift baseball diamond where a picked lineup would play the game that let them forget about the troubles they'd faced and the troubles that lie ahead.
