Smoking Persuasive Research Paper
Listen, can you hear that? Your heart is begging you to stop smoking. Well, not exactly. Think about this, 480,000 people in the U.S and 100,000
people in the UK die from smoking each year. It's the largest preventable death in the world! If you knew how bad it is for you, would you stop
smoking? That's quite something to think about, isn't it? If you knew that smoking can cause cancer for you and your loved ones, would you still
continue smoking? Cancer.. One word that could cause millions of thoughts and memories from one word. Smoking can cause several different types
of cancer (i.e: Bladder, Kidney, Mouth, Pancreas, Nose+Sinus, Cervical, Bowl, Ovarian etc....) why would you risk that for a moment of "fun" or a

It's quite a hard habit to break. I get that. According to quit.org.au if you stop smoking for a total of 6 hours your heart rate will slow down and you

muscles a lot easier. Within 7 days your smell and taste buds will go back to normal. You have higher blood levels of better antioxidants such as
vitamin C. Within about 3 months you're about back to normal. You're coughing less, and you are breathing a lot easier. Your body is better
fighting sickness. Within 6 months you are a lot less stressed and all the symptoms you had had before are about gone. After a year you are so
much healthier and your breathing easier like you were before you were smoking. After about 1+ years your body is getting back to where is was
before you even started smoking. Your risk of heart attack and stroke is close to a person who has never smoked. Would you rather be sick all your life,

Smoking kills. Smoking can cause cancer and other bad diseases. Also, companies have made cigarettes in different flavors which are worse than
regular cigarettes. People who smoke can be addicted. If you try to stop smoking cold turkey, it will give you headaches and stomachaches. I wanted
to research this topic because I have some really close friends and they have family that smoke. Their greatā€“grandpa died from smoking. Also, I noticed
a lot of people are dying because they made the bad decision to smoke. Some people started to smoke when they were teenagers. They got addicted
to it, and now they can't stop smoking. I wanted to try to find a way people who smoke can stop. How can countries solve and stop smoking? This
problem can be solved and it will be solved because countries are starting to ban smoking from certain places.
People that smoke are the people that get all the unhealthy stuff in a body like cancer and many diseases that can be caused."If smoking persists at the
current rate among young adults in this country, 5.6 million of today's Americans younger than 18 years of age are projected to die prematurely from a
smokingā€“related illness. Another 100,000 were babies who died of sudden infant death syndrome (often referred to as SIDS) or complications from
prematurity, low birth weight, or other conditions caused by parental smoking, particularly smoking by the mother. "Smoking has been around for a
long time. The problem with smoking became worse when "production climbed markedly when another cigaretteā€“making machine was developed in
the 1880s by James Albert Bonsack, which vastly increased the productivity of cigarette companies, which went from making about 40,000 handā€“rolled
cigarettes daily to around 4 million." Smoking is a problem around the world because it causes lung cancer, many other cancers, and some horrible
diseases. This problem should be solved because "More than 10 times as many U.S. citizens have died prematurely from cigarette smoking than have
died in all the wars fought by the United States during its history."
According to SIR'S article "Adolescent Cigarette Smoking

If your life line was reduced with each puff of a cigarette you smoke, would you take another? According to the Centers for Disease Control and
Prevention (CDC) cigarette smoking causes about one of every five deaths in the United States. The CDC goes on to state cigarette smoking is
estimated to cause more than 480,000 deaths annually (including deaths from secondhand smoke). Tobacco use is the leading preventable cause of
death (CDC Web). 1 The antiā€“smoking advertisement appeals to preā€“teen and adults of both genders by causing fear and awareness, which may have
its audience reconsider beginning cigarette smoking or quitting.
This antiā€“smoking advertisement makes its audience aware of the consequences cigarette smoke has on one's life....show more content...
This fear causes many to not to smoke or if they are smokers give up smoking. While others even after seeing the dramatic advertisements don't stop
for many reasons including addiction. Why does fear in advertisement work for some and not others? I don't think researchers really know, it has a
lot to do with how one is raised and the life experiences each person has had. In 2014 the CDC ran its third consecutive year federally funded
antiā€“smoking ad campaign called "Tips From Former Smokers (Tips)". This time it broke up the advertisement campaign into 2 phases, with phase 1
running advertisements from its 2012 and 2013 campaigns and phase 2 featuring completely new advertisement's. An estimated 1.8 million smokers
attempted to quit smoking because of the 2014 ad campaigns.
Most people are divided when it comes to antiā€“smoking advertisements. Some believe they will quit when they are ready and not be pressured by
guilt into quitting, while others believe the advertisement does not apply to them. I know firsthand, my father felt this way, he was born in 1939, he
began smoking at an early age. In the nineteen forties and fifties there were not many studies linking cancer or other illnesses to tobacco use. Smoking
cigarettes was the thing to do, tobacco advertisements on television and magazines was the norm. When I was six years old my father was diagnosed
with lung cancer, and eventually it spread to his heart and brain.

Persuasive Essay On Anti Smoking
Antiā€“smoking campaigns came to life in the 1960s because the dangers of smoking became more relevant and were brought into the public eye. This
ultimately created a large controversy among many American citizens. Actions that were brought forth by the government were largely beneficial, but
have not even come close to completely annihilating smoking in the USA. The visual image seen on the first page of this document conveys the
argument that smoking cigarettes, or any type of tobacco for that matter, will have a negative effect on a person's future by decreasing their personal
life expectancy. Although there is no clear location of where and when the image was produced, one might believe that it was found in a magazine.
The purpose of this visual is that smoking will eventually kill a consistent consumer. The image is made by an antiā€“smoking advertisement who used a
very dramatic format which will be able to impact people on a more emotional level. The development of the image is to scare and intimidate not only
people who are starting to smoke but also existing smokers. Also, nonsmokers want the smokers they know to quit because they care about their
wellā€“being. This advertisement was also created for the clear purpose that the leaders of the community don't want these products, that have been
proven to be detrimental to citizens' health, to be used.
The argument for the visual is upheld because it is arguing that smoking cigarettes will cause the shortening of the life

Though CVD might seem like a death sentence for many Americans, it does not have to be. Though there is no cure for CVD, there are plenty of
ways for one to prevent or manage CVD. The biggest factor in everyone's life that causes CVD is poor lifestyle. There are also a few medications and
surgical procedures that can be administered or performed to keep one's CVD in check. As mentioned before, smoking is the number one most
preventable form of death in the United States. Thus, CVD patients should try and quit smoking as soon as possible to ensure a healthier lifestyle.
Quitting smoking is the first step in maintaining or preventing CVD. Quitting smoking allows the heart to rest from being in its constant agitated state
that makes it go into tachycardia or bradycardia. The sudden quit in smoking can lead to depression in the patient as the patient has become
physically and mentally dependent on the drug and their body has stopped forming the neurotransmitters needed to function properly in society. A
study by Paul N. Pfeiffer, M.D. and Michele Heisler M.D. of Kentucky State University tested the effects of peer involvement with people with
depression and the results stated that peer support helped to reduce the symptoms of depression (21). Maintaining a healthy weight is also very
important to limit the risk factors of CVD. Since losing weight isn't an easy feat, one should try to cut back on their caloric intake and participate in
more physically rigorous activities. The

Quit smoking today! I tell myself that every day and every day it gets harder. Are you a smoker? Do you know someone who does smoke? If so
maybe this is what you need to read on reducing your chances of Heart Disease, Emphysema and Cancer the moment you quit smoking. No matter your
gender or age smoking is the leading cause of death for men and women across the country. Statistics show that the negative health effects of smoking
result in more deaths in the U.S. than murder, drug abuse, alcohol, vehicle crashes, suicide and even AIDS together. (CDC,2011) The majority of

Let me just warn you that once you do quit smoking, you can NEVER just smoke one. Once you do, you are right back to smoking again. So don't
do it. The first night you quit smoking it won't be as hard as you may think but the next day will be a whole different story. From personal
experience quitting before the best advice I can give you is to stay busy. If you are bored or just sitting around you will want to smoke a cigarette; so
plan ahead before you quit. Line up activities, take some classes, go out with friends (hopefully nonā€“smokers). When you quit smoking you can expect
to gain a big appetite. I think it is a combination of emotional eating and a hand to mouth gesture. Heavy smokers burn around 200 calories a day.
Don't let a little weight gain get in the way of holding you back from a healthier life. (Martin, T.2008) Most people and I was one of them, replace
cigarettes with food. You want to munch all the time. Sleep deprivation is another big one when quitting smoking, for about 2 weeks. When I would
go to bed I would listen to relaxation or meditation music to help me relax and fall asleep. Quitting is hard be you can do it! Tobacco companies and
advertisements give us the warnings of the dangers of smoking cigarettes all we need to do is listen. "Smoking causes lung cancer, heart disease,
emphysema, and may complicate pregnancy." (Surgeon General's Warning located on each pack of cigarettes) This is what is printed on

Hello my name is ā€“ā€“ā€“ā€“ā€“ā€“ā€“ā€“ā€“and here to persuade you to stop smoking.
Smoking is not only bad for health it is also as bad for the people around you.
Breathing other people's smoke is called passive, involuntary or secondhand smoking. The nonā€“smoker breathes "side stream" smoke from the burning
tip of the cigarette and "mainstream" smoke that has been inhaled and then exhaled by the smoker. Secondhand smoke is a major source of indoor air
pollution. How does this affect the passive smoker? Some of the immediate effects of passive smoking include eye irritation, headache, cough, sore
throat, dizziness and nausea.

A Canadian study found that passive smoking reduced children's ability to detect a wide variety of odors compared with children raised in
nonā€“smoking households. Passive smoking may also affect children's mental development. A US study found deficits in reading and reasoning skills
among children even at low levels of smoke exposure. Exposure to passive smoking during pregnancy is an independent risk factor for low birth
weight. A recent study has also shown that babies exposed to their mother'stobacco smoke before they are born grow up with reduced lung function
Parental smoking is also a risk factor for sudden infant death syndrome which is also known as cot death. Tobacco can cause diseases such aslung
cancer and emphysema. According to the Journal of American Medical Association in 1996, "the addition of prevalence of cigarette smoking marks
the first time a behavior, rather than disease or illness, has been considered nationally reportable" on the
Centers for Disease Control and Prevention list and According to the
American Lung Association, smokingā€“related disease claim an estimated
440,000 American lives each year. That's about 1200 deaths a day!
Why would you want to cut your life short several years because of smoking? Now that we know the problem, let's move on to the solution.
I want you all to think about the next time you or a friend lights up a cigarette and how much better it

Some people believe that smoking is not good for your long term health while others think that it's fine if you decide to smoke. People think smoking
cigarettes can help cope with many of problems such as feeling depressed, having trouble sleeping, feeling irritable, having trouble focusing, and
poverty. Many adults are aware of the long term affects to your health if you smoke any kind of cigarettes. While, teenagers are uneducated to what can
happen, their mentality is that "it will never happen to me." In 1949, dentists suggested smoking Viceroys over anything else because Viceroys filtered

Persuasive Letter To Quit Smoking
Dear Nicole, I am writing this to you in order to help persuade you to quit smoking. You've said in the past that smoking is not harming you, but just
because you do not see the effects of it right now, does not mean it won't hurt you in the near future. Not only is it harming you, it's also harming your
friends and family. It does way more harm than you can imagine, and I plan to tell you how it does. Smoking is harming you. All that smoke is going
into your lungs and damaging them. Not only does it damage your lungs, it goes into your bloodstream and spreads all throughout your body, hurting
almost every organ in your body. Your lungs, heart, brains, sexual organs, and more are all damaged through smoking. Your lungs have an increased
chance in getting lung cancer, your heart has an increased chance in getting a heart attack, your brain has an increased chance in getting a stroke, and
you have an increased chance of having a terrible sexual life. You also have a chance of ruining your voice, your skin,...show more content...

will cause your friends to be pushed away, and that feeling of your friends leaving you is an awful feeling. It could also affect your friend's health,
because anybody that accepts the smoking and hangs around you while you are smoking will no doubt get affected by second hand smoking. That is
extremely harmful as it is no different from smoking normally. That means not only do you affect yourself in a negative way, you affect the people
around you too. That's extremely dangerous in every aspect, whether it be social or health wise. This goes for your family too, especially at family
outings or events, every time you decide to take a break and smoke, you're harming the relationship between your family and the health of them (which

Smoking is an addiction that can risk one's health, which in turn can lead to death. As time advances, both smokers and nonā€“smokers are beginning to
understand the harm in this deadly habit because not only does it harm smokers, it can impact anyone who encounters the smoke secondā€“hand. Since
the public has become aware of the health risks induced by smoking, cessation tools such as nicotine replacement therapy are being invented to help
terminate the desire to smoke. As technology improves, smoking devices like the electronic cigarette are invented and can be considered an effective
cessation tool. Electronic cigarettes can deliver low doses of nicotine to ease withdrawal symptoms. Furthermore, as electronic cigarettes increase in

Quitting rates of participants who are unwilling to stop smoking at all using electronic cigarettes shows how much of an effective cessation method
they are. For nicotine replacement therapy to work, smokers would have to volunteer to quit and seek help, while with electronic cigarettes cessation
just happens. Another effective way to quit smoking is to ease the amount of nicotine in one's body as well as decreasing the stress of completely
giving up the habit of smoking. A study performed by Bullen and Etter found that 92% of smokers using electronic cigarettes for three months
reduced the total number of cigarettes they smoked (as cited in Rahman et al., 2014). The use of an electronic cigarette reduces a smoker's need for
cigarettes since their mechanisms are like an actual cigarette. These devices also deliver nicotine to the smoker when inhaled, as well as the user can
choose the dosage of nicotine they're receiving. Furthermore, an electronic cigarette user can start with a nicotine dose that is measurable to or higher
than a cigarette then over time reducing their quantity until the smoker no longer has the desire to be using the nicotine. This decrease in the amount
of nicotine will reduce withdrawal symptoms of the person trying to quit smoking, thus decreasing the smokers need to use real cigarettes. Notably, a

We all know what we want, we want a society that disapproves of smoking, a society that says no to smoking, a nonā€“smoking society where people
live a full life and don't die from the brutality of smoking.
It goes without saying that I know what we want: we want a blue sky, the gorgeous sun beaming upon usā€“not a sky full of that wretched, foul,
cancerā€“causing smoke that we inhale into our angelic bodies, don't you? As one we can work together to stop this madness, to stop this appalling,
problematic soulā€“wrenching substance.
I want the country of Russia, a place engulfed in the sweltering smoke, inundated in red hot flames to be free from it! The country of Greece, a place
buried with smoke to be free from its curse! Two of the many countries where people smoke the most.
Smoking is a detrimental habit that should be stopped, this satanic substance that causes so much harm to our bodies. It can cause over 14 different
types of cancer, it can reduce your athletic performance, diagnose you with pneumonia and many, many more. In England alone over 15% of the adult
population smoke this minacious substance, that's 15% of the England's population that have a risk of getting the variety of diseases, you don't want
that to happen...do you? Well, I don't!
Many people say that it is unfavourable, many say that it is pleasurable. Well, I say that it is horrendousā€“ smoking should be illegal! Surely, the amount
of harm it does to the smoker's body and the people around him or her is too great to be unnoticed. It is vital to do this because smoking kills over
430,000 people in the United States alone each year and costs them thousands of dollars in health care for smoking related medical issues. Although
health care for smokers also costs the government millions, they refuse to ban the easily addictive drug from hands of civilians. This is because of the
profits that tobacco production and sales, a disgrace to us, make for the economy each year. This is inexcusable because it is putting the importance of
money and the stimulation of the economy before citizens' health and lives. Think about the children, you don't want a society where your little boy
grows up to be an addict just because of the influence caused by you! You!

Persuasive Essay On Quit Smoking
A person who determines to quit smoking has only a six percent chance of success. The majority of people will either return to their smoking habit,
pick up another form of tobacco use such as chewing tobacco, or use something such as a nicotine infused water vapor pen to give into their nicotine
addiction. To completely give uptobacco use is a hard, but very important task to accomplish, I know this first hand. I was an on/off smoker since I
was sixteen years old. I was more of a social smoker, I could go without a cigarette all day and never even think about it. I just liked the habit of
smoking. If I could go back, I would have never started. I found out I was pregnant in May of 2016, and have not picked up a cigarette since. My
husband John also decided to quit smoking after we found out we were having a baby. John smoked his last cigarette in September of 2016. John did
not abruptly stop smoking like I did, he used nicotine replacement therapy to overcome his habit. John was a pack a day smoker, so it was much
harder for him to quit than me. There are still days where temptation tries to make us give in, but we stay strong. We both quit for our health and our
baby's health and it was the best thing we ever did. Quitting smoking, whether by abruptly quitting or by nicotine replacement therapy, is difficult but
important.
Quitting smoking abruptly is also referred to as quitting "cold turkey." This form of smoking cessation involves no tapering off of nicotine, just

Why One Should Stop Smoking
Smoking is a huge problem in today's society. Many people don't understand the consequences that come with smoking. Cigarettes and marijuana are
very common uses of smoking. As a college student I am able to the effects these two drugs have on students mental and physical abilities. People
shouldn't smoke because not only does smoking affect your everyday way of live but they may also kill you. People who become addicted to these
certain substances know the risks but don't care because they are mentally attached to the drugs that destroy their body. Marijuana affects the brain the
most while tobacco affects organs in your body. According to the article "Weed Smoke VS.Cigarette Smoke: Which is worse?" By Delilah Butterfield
"When it comes to the of smoking, research suggests that tobacco is far more harmful to the lungs than cannabis. Both marijuana and tobacco increase
the chances of lung cancer. "People who are under 55 had an increased chance increased chance in forming a type of lung cancer" (Morris). If are
diagnosed with asthma then these two substances can make your breathing problem 90% worse than what it was. Most smokers don't even know what
they are smoking in reality. Tobacco and marijuana are made to calm the nerves of the human body (They are downers) but, they also are made of
multiple poisonous and chemical substances. Tobacco contains chemicals like "Nicotine (the addictive drug that produces the effect that people are
looking for and one of harshest chemicals in tobacco smoke), Hydrogen cyanide, Lead, Arsenic, Ammonia, Radioactive elements, carbon monoxide,
etc." (3, The American Cancer Society) All of these elements put together form one of the deadliest products that is sold all over the world, called a

cause mental dependence on nicotine (The American Cancer Society). In the last paragraph we learned multiple chemicals that create tobacco but
marijuana also is made with dangerous chemicals. "Marijuana contains at least 60 chemicals called cannabinoids. Researchers

Should Smoking Be Banned?
By: Derek Oxley
Lamar Community College
Abstract:
Smoking is a real problem. It is far more hazardous and its effects to the body are far more severe than any good effects to the body or the economy.
Smoking will rot the teeth and cause gum disease resulting them falling out prematurely. This results in having to buy false teeth. While the positive
side is that smoking can help a person relax and can be seen as attractive or cool. This paper will outline the pros and cons of smoking and conclude
that smoking should be banned. Smoking is a really big problem in society, but it also has its pros. It has affected tens of thousands of lives and
needs to be banned. Smoking has been the leading cause of so many problems in the world including lung cancer and throat cancer, both of which are
deadly. But, that is not the only thing it causes or affects. Here are a few more things smoking affects in the everyday lives of people.
Smoking has some side effects that that are really bad. These side effects over time can lead to death. A report from the CDC (Center of Disease
Control and Prevention) states that 46 million Americans eighteen and older smoke. There are over 443,000 premature deaths and this is a big
financial burden. Smoking affects the population in a lot of ways. It not only hurts the smokers' health but harms the health of the people around them
too. Young children are susceptible to these effects because they are still growing and developing. Exposure can lead to asthma, sudden infant death
syndrome (SIDS), middle ear infections, bronchitis, and pneumonia. For adults the effects do not get much better. They run the risk of developing lung
cancer, emphysema, pneumonia and bronchitis. But the worst part is leaving a family behind your own kids without a parent or guardian (Chew, 2017).
Smoking not only affects the body it really effects the environment. Smoking is not good for the air and really pollutes it. In one cigarette there are
approximately 4,000 chemicals. All 4,000 chemicals a person inhales and then exhales directly into the atmosphere. In the United States about 30% of
the population are smokers, but the percent in other developing countries is much

Smoking tobacco causes over six million deaths per year worldwide. Cigarette smoking takes the lives of 480,000 people per year in the U.S., and
more than 41,000 of these deaths occur from secondhand smoking. Twenty percent of high school students use tobacco. Many of them don't think
about the side effects until after they start smoking and get affected with diseases. Most smokers become deceased ten years before those who don't
smoke. I believe that people shouldn't be abusing tobacco because there are so many debilitating health problems, as a result of gross chemicals.
The Food and Drug Administration is an agency that is against the use of tobacco. They are trying to reduce the number of people who begin using
tobacco, encourage more people to stop using tobacco, and reduce the side effects for those who continue to use tobacco. According to the CDC, there
were many acts created to stop tobacco use. One of those acts was the Public Health Cigarette Smoking Act which banned cigarette advertising on the
television and radio. Another act that was created to stop people from smoking tobacco was the Comprehensive Smokeless Tobacco Health Education
Act that banned smokeless tobacco from being put on television or on the radio "(Laws/Policies)." These acts that were created were made
specifically to stop people from smoking tobacco and cigarettes by showing them their negative side effects.
Many people are aware of the side effects of smoking cigarettes and tobacco, but they still do it anyways. Smoking tobacco can cause cancer,
diabetes and many other diseases. Smoking of any kind causes deadly symptoms such as lung diseases like pneumonia, emphysema, and chronic
bronchitis. Smoking can also be very harmful to others because many people who don't smoke are around people who do smoke on a day to day
basis. Babies who are surrounded by people who smoke are sick often with bronchitis and ear infections. Smoking one cigarette causes 4,800 gross
chemicals to go into your body. Secondā€“hand smoking causes 7,000 chemicals to go into your body "(Smoking & Tobacco Use)." All these diseases
are deadly and very rare, but the one way you can avoid them is by not smoking at all.

Persuasive Essay On Smoking
Millions of people die each year because of secondhand smoke and smoking. There is nothing good to say about cigarettes and drugs. It has become a
really big problem and it needs to stop it. But here's the question can we stop it? Cigarettes are just plain out horrible, they contain nicotine which is a
very addictive stimulant that makes you want to keep smoking. Smoking can also lead to lung cancer and many more consequences, there is more than
650,000 people who die each year because of the consequences of smoking. Therefore smoking is bad for your health and should be banned.
Smoking has many major horrible effects on lives that you can't take back. For example 16 million americans are living with diseased caused by
smoking. Every person who dies because of smoking, 30 people are living with a smoking illness. Smoking can also lead to lung cancer, cancer, eye
disease, problems with the immune system, and much more. Smoking is the leading cause for preventable death. Tobacco users cause a average of 6
million deaths a year, and by 2030 will cause 8 million. Cigarette smoking is responsible for more than 480,000 deaths in the United States, and 41,000
deaths resulting secondhand smoke. 1,300 deaths everyday are caused by smoking. Each day more than 3,200 18 year olds or younger are trying their
first cigarette. (Smoking and tobacco)
Not only is smoking bad, but it can also lead to illegal drugs which leads to even worse consequences. A new study shows that cigarette smoking
can be a gateway to illegal drugs. The study found that people who smoked are 7 times more likely to try marijuana, and cocaine. Also smokers are
14 times more likely to try crack, and 16 more times likely to try heroin. The evidence also had age groups that tells what age are people most
likely to try illegal drugs after smoking, and the evidence came out with that people ages up 12 to 15 who smoked cigarettes are 44 more times
likely to use crack. Teens ages 15 who smoked cigarettes are up to 80 times likely to use illegal drugs than kids who don't smoke. The most likely
drug that young smokers would move onto is cocaine. The number of high schoolers that smoke is going up, and the number of high schoolers that use
cocaine is going up

Smoking Persuasive Research Paper

  • 1. Smoking Persuasive Research Paper Listen, can you hear that? Your heart is begging you to stop smoking. Well, not exactly. Think about this, 480,000 people in the U.S and 100,000 people in the UK die from smoking each year. It's the largest preventable death in the world! If you knew how bad it is for you, would you stop smoking? That's quite something to think about, isn't it? If you knew that smoking can cause cancer for you and your loved ones, would you still continue smoking? Cancer.. One word that could cause millions of thoughts and memories from one word. Smoking can cause several different types of cancer (i.e: Bladder, Kidney, Mouth, Pancreas, Nose+Sinus, Cervical, Bowl, Ovarian etc....) why would you risk that for a moment of "fun" or a moment relaxation for...show more content... It's quite a hard habit to break. I get that. According to quit.org.au if you stop smoking for a total of 6 hours your heart rate will slow down and you heart rate a blood pressure will slow down. For 24 hours about all the nicotine is out of your bloodstream/ system. Oxygen can go into your heart and muscles a lot easier. Within 7 days your smell and taste buds will go back to normal. You have higher blood levels of better antioxidants such as vitamin C. Within about 3 months you're about back to normal. You're coughing less, and you are breathing a lot easier. Your body is better fighting sickness. Within 6 months you are a lot less stressed and all the symptoms you had had before are about gone. After a year you are so much healthier and your breathing easier like you were before you were smoking. After about 1+ years your body is getting back to where is was before you even started smoking. Your risk of heart attack and stroke is close to a person who has never smoked. Would you rather be sick all your life, or would you rather turn over a new leaf, and get Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 2. Persuasive Essay On Smoking Smoking kills. Smoking can cause cancer and other bad diseases. Also, companies have made cigarettes in different flavors which are worse than regular cigarettes. People who smoke can be addicted. If you try to stop smoking cold turkey, it will give you headaches and stomachaches. I wanted to research this topic because I have some really close friends and they have family that smoke. Their greatā€“grandpa died from smoking. Also, I noticed a lot of people are dying because they made the bad decision to smoke. Some people started to smoke when they were teenagers. They got addicted to it, and now they can't stop smoking. I wanted to try to find a way people who smoke can stop. How can countries solve and stop smoking? This problem can be solved and it will be solved because countries are starting to ban smoking from certain places. People that smoke are the people that get all the unhealthy stuff in a body like cancer and many diseases that can be caused."If smoking persists at the current rate among young adults in this country, 5.6 million of today's Americans younger than 18 years of age are projected to die prematurely from a smokingā€“related illness. Another 100,000 were babies who died of sudden infant death syndrome (often referred to as SIDS) or complications from prematurity, low birth weight, or other conditions caused by parental smoking, particularly smoking by the mother. "Smoking has been around for a long time. The problem with smoking became worse when "production climbed markedly when another cigaretteā€“making machine was developed in the 1880s by James Albert Bonsack, which vastly increased the productivity of cigarette companies, which went from making about 40,000 handā€“rolled cigarettes daily to around 4 million." Smoking is a problem around the world because it causes lung cancer, many other cancers, and some horrible diseases. This problem should be solved because "More than 10 times as many U.S. citizens have died prematurely from cigarette smoking than have died in all the wars fought by the United States during its history." According to SIR'S article "Adolescent Cigarette Smoking , "Cigarettes remain the world's most effective weapon of mass destruction."The world should eliminate Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 3. Persuasive Essay On Anti Smoking If your life line was reduced with each puff of a cigarette you smoke, would you take another? According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) cigarette smoking causes about one of every five deaths in the United States. The CDC goes on to state cigarette smoking is estimated to cause more than 480,000 deaths annually (including deaths from secondhand smoke). Tobacco use is the leading preventable cause of death (CDC Web). 1 The antiā€“smoking advertisement appeals to preā€“teen and adults of both genders by causing fear and awareness, which may have its audience reconsider beginning cigarette smoking or quitting. This antiā€“smoking advertisement makes its audience aware of the consequences cigarette smoke has on one's life....show more content... This fear causes many to not to smoke or if they are smokers give up smoking. While others even after seeing the dramatic advertisements don't stop for many reasons including addiction. Why does fear in advertisement work for some and not others? I don't think researchers really know, it has a lot to do with how one is raised and the life experiences each person has had. In 2014 the CDC ran its third consecutive year federally funded antiā€“smoking ad campaign called "Tips From Former Smokers (Tips)". This time it broke up the advertisement campaign into 2 phases, with phase 1 running advertisements from its 2012 and 2013 campaigns and phase 2 featuring completely new advertisement's. An estimated 1.8 million smokers attempted to quit smoking because of the 2014 ad campaigns. Most people are divided when it comes to antiā€“smoking advertisements. Some believe they will quit when they are ready and not be pressured by guilt into quitting, while others believe the advertisement does not apply to them. I know firsthand, my father felt this way, he was born in 1939, he began smoking at an early age. In the nineteen forties and fifties there were not many studies linking cancer or other illnesses to tobacco use. Smoking cigarettes was the thing to do, tobacco advertisements on television and magazines was the norm. When I was six years old my father was diagnosed with lung cancer, and eventually it spread to his heart and brain. Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 4. Persuasive Essay On Anti Smoking Antiā€“smoking campaigns came to life in the 1960s because the dangers of smoking became more relevant and were brought into the public eye. This ultimately created a large controversy among many American citizens. Actions that were brought forth by the government were largely beneficial, but have not even come close to completely annihilating smoking in the USA. The visual image seen on the first page of this document conveys the argument that smoking cigarettes, or any type of tobacco for that matter, will have a negative effect on a person's future by decreasing their personal life expectancy. Although there is no clear location of where and when the image was produced, one might believe that it was found in a magazine. The purpose of this visual is that smoking will eventually kill a consistent consumer. The image is made by an antiā€“smoking advertisement who used a very dramatic format which will be able to impact people on a more emotional level. The development of the image is to scare and intimidate not only people who are starting to smoke but also existing smokers. Also, nonsmokers want the smokers they know to quit because they care about their wellā€“being. This advertisement was also created for the clear purpose that the leaders of the community don't want these products, that have been proven to be detrimental to citizens' health, to be used. The argument for the visual is upheld because it is arguing that smoking cigarettes will cause the shortening of the life Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 5. Persuasive Essay On Smoking Though CVD might seem like a death sentence for many Americans, it does not have to be. Though there is no cure for CVD, there are plenty of ways for one to prevent or manage CVD. The biggest factor in everyone's life that causes CVD is poor lifestyle. There are also a few medications and surgical procedures that can be administered or performed to keep one's CVD in check. As mentioned before, smoking is the number one most preventable form of death in the United States. Thus, CVD patients should try and quit smoking as soon as possible to ensure a healthier lifestyle. Quitting smoking is the first step in maintaining or preventing CVD. Quitting smoking allows the heart to rest from being in its constant agitated state that makes it go into tachycardia or bradycardia. The sudden quit in smoking can lead to depression in the patient as the patient has become physically and mentally dependent on the drug and their body has stopped forming the neurotransmitters needed to function properly in society. A study by Paul N. Pfeiffer, M.D. and Michele Heisler M.D. of Kentucky State University tested the effects of peer involvement with people with depression and the results stated that peer support helped to reduce the symptoms of depression (21). Maintaining a healthy weight is also very important to limit the risk factors of CVD. Since losing weight isn't an easy feat, one should try to cut back on their caloric intake and participate in more physically rigorous activities. The Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 6. Persuasive Essay: Quit Smoking Devry University Professor Emily Gormanā€“Fancy April 06,2011 Quit Smoking Today| The Dangers of Smoking Cigarettes| Katie Coomes| Quit smoking today! I tell myself that every day and every day it gets harder. Are you a smoker? Do you know someone who does smoke? If so maybe this is what you need to read on reducing your chances of Heart Disease, Emphysema and Cancer the moment you quit smoking. No matter your gender or age smoking is the leading cause of death for men and women across the country. Statistics show that the negative health effects of smoking result in more deaths in the U.S. than murder, drug abuse, alcohol, vehicle crashes, suicide and even AIDS together. (CDC,2011) The majority of smokers are likely to die from...show more content... Let me just warn you that once you do quit smoking, you can NEVER just smoke one. Once you do, you are right back to smoking again. So don't do it. The first night you quit smoking it won't be as hard as you may think but the next day will be a whole different story. From personal experience quitting before the best advice I can give you is to stay busy. If you are bored or just sitting around you will want to smoke a cigarette; so plan ahead before you quit. Line up activities, take some classes, go out with friends (hopefully nonā€“smokers). When you quit smoking you can expect to gain a big appetite. I think it is a combination of emotional eating and a hand to mouth gesture. Heavy smokers burn around 200 calories a day. Don't let a little weight gain get in the way of holding you back from a healthier life. (Martin, T.2008) Most people and I was one of them, replace cigarettes with food. You want to munch all the time. Sleep deprivation is another big one when quitting smoking, for about 2 weeks. When I would go to bed I would listen to relaxation or meditation music to help me relax and fall asleep. Quitting is hard be you can do it! Tobacco companies and advertisements give us the warnings of the dangers of smoking cigarettes all we need to do is listen. "Smoking causes lung cancer, heart disease, emphysema, and may complicate pregnancy." Smoking is not only bad for health it is also as bad for the people around you. Breathing other people's smoke is called passive, involuntary or secondhand smoking. The nonā€“smoker breathes "side stream" smoke from the burning tip of the cigarette and "mainstream" smoke that has been inhaled and then exhaled by the smoker. Secondhand smoke is a major source of indoor air pollution. How does this affect the passive smoker? Adults with asthma can experience a significant decline in lung function when exposed, while new...show more content... A Canadian study found that passive smoking reduced children's ability to detect a wide variety of odors compared with children raised in nonā€“smoking households. Passive smoking may also affect children's mental development. A US study found deficits in reading and reasoning skills among children even at low levels of smoke exposure. Exposure to passive smoking during pregnancy is an independent risk factor for low birth weight. A recent study has also shown that babies exposed to their mother'stobacco smoke before they are born grow up with reduced lung function Parental smoking is also a risk factor for sudden infant death syndrome which is also known as cot death. Tobacco can cause diseases such aslung cancer and emphysema. According to the Journal of American Medical Association in 1996, "the addition of prevalence of cigarette smoking marks the first time a behavior, rather than disease or illness, has been considered nationally reportable" on the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention list and According to the American Lung Association, smokingā€“related disease claim an estimated 440,000 American lives each year. That's about 1200 deaths a day! Why would you want to cut your life short several years because of smoking? Now that we know the problem, let's move on to the solution. This advertisement was also created for the clear purpose that the leaders of the community don't want these products, that have been proven to be detrimental to citizens' health, to be used. The argument for the visual is upheld because it is arguing that smoking cigarettes will cause the shortening of the life of consumers. The image is a clock with a bundle of cigarettes tied together and then connected by a long wick, this is portrayed in a way that represent a stick of dynamite attached to a timer with a lighter near the wick that will light it. The image is establishing these values because dynamite is capable of destroying and harming its surroundings. Underneath the visual the purpose of the image is also further supported through text. It says, "Every Breath You Take Will Eventually Destroy Your Future." This illustrates that through every puff of a cigarette it increases your chances of getting diseases or cancer, hence destroying your future. Through the image it portrays that every time you light up a cigarette it takes time off your life clock. The image is being viewed from the point of view of a smoker and it Get more content on HelpWriting.net

  • 16. Persuasive Essay On Smoking Cessation Smoking is an addiction that can risk one's health, which in turn can lead to death. As time advances, both smokers and nonā€“smokers are beginning to understand the harm in this deadly habit because not only does it harm smokers, it can impact anyone who encounters the smoke secondā€“hand. Since the public has become aware of the health risks induced by smoking, cessation tools such as nicotine replacement therapy are being invented to help terminate the desire to smoke. As technology improves, smoking devices like the electronic cigarette are invented and can be considered an effective cessation tool. Electronic cigarettes can deliver low doses of nicotine to ease withdrawal symptoms. Furthermore, as electronic cigarettes increase in ...show more content... Quitting rates of participants who are unwilling to stop smoking at all using electronic cigarettes shows how much of an effective cessation method they are. For nicotine replacement therapy to work, smokers would have to volunteer to quit and seek help, while with electronic cigarettes cessation just happens. Another effective way to quit smoking is to ease the amount of nicotine in one's body as well as decreasing the stress of completely giving up the habit of smoking. A study performed by Bullen and Etter found that 92% of smokers using electronic cigarettes for three months reduced the total number of cigarettes they smoked (as cited in Rahman et al., 2014). The use of an electronic cigarette reduces a smoker's need for cigarettes since their mechanisms are like an actual cigarette. These devices also deliver nicotine to the smoker when inhaled, as well as the user can choose the dosage of nicotine they're receiving. Furthermore, an electronic cigarette user can start with a nicotine dose that is measurable to or higher than a cigarette then over time reducing their quantity until the smoker no longer has the desire to be using the nicotine. This decrease in the amount of nicotine will reduce withdrawal symptoms of the person trying to quit smoking, thus decreasing the smokers need to use real cigarettes. • 17. Persuasive Essay On Smoking We all know what we want, we want a society that disapproves of smoking, a society that says no to smoking, a nonā€“smoking society where people live a full life and don't die from the brutality of smoking. It goes without saying that I know what we want: we want a blue sky, the gorgeous sun beaming upon usā€“not a sky full of that wretched, foul, cancerā€“causing smoke that we inhale into our angelic bodies, don't you? As one we can work together to stop this madness, to stop this appalling, problematic soulā€“wrenching substance. I want the country of Russia, a place engulfed in the sweltering smoke, inundated in red hot flames to be free from it! The country of Greece, a place buried with smoke to be free from its curse! Two of the many countries where people smoke the most. Smoking is a detrimental habit that should be stopped, this satanic substance that causes so much harm to our bodies. It can cause over 14 different types of cancer, it can reduce your athletic performance, diagnose you with pneumonia and many, many more. In England alone over 15% of the adult population smoke this minacious substance, that's 15% of the England's population that have a risk of getting the variety of diseases, you don't want that to happen...do you? Well, I don't! Many people say that it is unfavourable, many say that it is pleasurable. Well, I say that it is horrendousā€“ smoking should be illegal! Surely, the amount of harm it does to the smoker's body and the people around him or her is too great to be unnoticed. It is vital to do this because smoking kills over 430,000 people in the United States alone each year and costs them thousands of dollars in health care for smoking related medical issues. Although health care for smokers also costs the government millions, they refuse to ban the easily addictive drug from hands of civilians. This is because of the profits that tobacco production and sales, a disgrace to us, make for the economy each year. This is inexcusable because it is putting the importance of money and the stimulation of the economy before citizens' health and lives. Think about the children, you don't want a society where your little boy grows up to be an addict just because of the influence caused by you! You! Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 18. Persuasive Essay On Quit Smoking A person who determines to quit smoking has only a six percent chance of success. The majority of people will either return to their smoking habit, pick up another form of tobacco use such as chewing tobacco, or use something such as a nicotine infused water vapor pen to give into their nicotine addiction. To completely give uptobacco use is a hard, but very important task to accomplish, I know this first hand. I was an on/off smoker since I was sixteen years old. I was more of a social smoker, I could go without a cigarette all day and never even think about it. I just liked the habit of smoking. If I could go back, I would have never started. I found out I was pregnant in May of 2016, and have not picked up a cigarette since. My husband John also decided to quit smoking after we found out we were having a baby. John smoked his last cigarette in September of 2016. John did not abruptly stop smoking like I did, he used nicotine replacement therapy to overcome his habit. John was a pack a day smoker, so it was much harder for him to quit than me. There are still days where temptation tries to make us give in, but we stay strong. We both quit for our health and our baby's health and it was the best thing we ever did. Quitting smoking, whether by abruptly quitting or by nicotine replacement therapy, is difficult but important. Quitting smoking abruptly is also referred to as quitting "cold turkey." This form of smoking cessation involves no tapering off of nicotine, just Get more content on HelpWriting.net

Tobacco and marijuana are made to calm the nerves of the human body (They are downers) but, they also are made of multiple poisonous and chemical substances. Tobacco contains chemicals like "Nicotine (the addictive drug that produces the effect that people are looking for and one of harshest chemicals in tobacco smoke), Hydrogen cyanide, Lead, Arsenic, Ammonia, Radioactive elements, carbon monoxide, etc." (3, The American Cancer Society) All of these elements put together form one of the deadliest products that is sold all over the world, called a cigarette. Companies created Eā€“ Cigarettes claiming that they were less harmful to the body but these products also contain addictive nicotine that can cause mental dependence on nicotine (The American Cancer Society). It is far more hazardous and its effects to the body are far more severe than any good effects to the body or the economy. Smoking will rot the teeth and cause gum disease resulting them falling out prematurely. This results in having to buy false teeth. While the positive side is that smoking can help a person relax and can be seen as attractive or cool. This paper will outline the pros and cons of smoking and conclude that smoking should be banned. Smoking is a really big problem in society, but it also has its pros. It has affected tens of thousands of lives and needs to be banned. Smoking has been the leading cause of so many problems in the world including lung cancer and throat cancer, both of which are deadly. But, that is not the only thing it causes or affects. Here are a few more things smoking affects in the everyday lives of people. Smoking has some side effects that that are really bad. These side effects over time can lead to death. A report from the CDC (Center of Disease Control and Prevention) states that 46 million Americans eighteen and older smoke. There are over 443,000 premature deaths and this is a big financial burden. Smoking affects the population in a lot of ways. It not only hurts the smokers' health but harms the health of the people around them too. Young children are susceptible to these effects because they are still growing and developing. Exposure can lead to asthma, sudden infant death syndrome (SIDS), middle ear infections, bronchitis, and pneumonia. For adults the effects do not get much better. • 21. Persuasive Essay On Smoking Smoking tobacco causes over six million deaths per year worldwide. Cigarette smoking takes the lives of 480,000 people per year in the U.S., and more than 41,000 of these deaths occur from secondhand smoking. Twenty percent of high school students use tobacco. Many of them don't think about the side effects until after they start smoking and get affected with diseases. Most smokers become deceased ten years before those who don't smoke. I believe that people shouldn't be abusing tobacco because there are so many debilitating health problems, as a result of gross chemicals. The Food and Drug Administration is an agency that is against the use of tobacco. They are trying to reduce the number of people who begin using tobacco, encourage more people to stop using tobacco, and reduce the side effects for those who continue to use tobacco. According to the CDC, there were many acts created to stop tobacco use. One of those acts was the Public Health Cigarette Smoking Act which banned cigarette advertising on the television and radio. Another act that was created to stop people from smoking tobacco was the Comprehensive Smokeless Tobacco Health Education Act that banned smokeless tobacco from being put on television or on the radio "(Laws/Policies)." These acts that were created were made specifically to stop people from smoking tobacco and cigarettes by showing them their negative side effects. Many people are aware of the side effects of smoking cigarettes and tobacco, but they still do it anyways. Smoking tobacco can cause cancer, diabetes and many other diseases. Smoking of any kind causes deadly symptoms such as lung diseases like pneumonia, emphysema, and chronic bronchitis. Smoking can also be very harmful to others because many people who don't smoke are around people who do smoke on a day to day basis. Babies who are surrounded by people who smoke are sick often with bronchitis and ear infections. Smoking one cigarette causes 4,800 gross chemicals to go into your body. Secondā€“hand smoking causes 7,000 chemicals to go into your body "(Smoking & Tobacco Use)." All these diseases are deadly and very rare, but the one way you can avoid them is by not smoking at all. One might object that smoking helps to calm Get more content on HelpWriting.net
