First Art Class
Freshman year of high school, I signed up for my first art class. While my previous interactions with art had not been few, they had been limited to
traditional drawings and paintings. Most had been either portraits or landscapes; all had been hyper–realistic. Without any other examples, I concluded
that this was the only type of art that was considered real art. I enjoyed the first semester of art class. However, the assignments deviated little from
traditional art. The assignments were standard issue: black and white ink drawings, landscapes, and basic portraits. I could not draw to save my
life, and my painting was not much better. Realism was not something my artwork even remotely approached. Previously, I had made some art:
wonky clay figures of animals and humans and anything else for the most part. But, in my mind these could not be considered art; I had never seen
anything similar in a museum. A few days before winter break, the class took a field trip to the local art museum. The top two floors held the usual
fair: old oil painting of landscapes and portraits. The basement floor, however, was promised to hold an exhibit different from all the others. Through
that floor, we were rushed by our tour guide; she preferred to focus on the upper stories. However, what we were shown on...show more content...
The artwork was like nothing I had ever seen before. Sculptures filled the entire space; huge sculptures, some taller than I was. And, they didn't just
depict humans in overworked poses. There were birds suspended in midair, sheep surrounded by arrows on all sides, skulls burning with fire, tree
branch collages and huge kaleidoscopic tunnels. Things were made out of who knows what, the colors were bright, the work was surreal. I suddenly
understood that art was not in fact, limited to painting on canvas. It could focus on anything, be made out of anything, and mean

What Is My Best Class Essay
When I first came into this class the first thing we did was a writing assignment. We had to write down 5 problems that I personally had with writing
and to expand on these problems. I wrote: I always seem to take too much time to think about what I'm going to write then I actually do writing, I tend
to make mistake when re–reading something, I lose my train of thought easily, English has never been my best class, and I'm a slow writing.
Throughout this semester in English Composition 102 I feel like this class has really helped me improve on all 5 of these problems and then some.
This class has really improved my writing style and structure to a point where others can see a real difference in my writing then before, even though
that wasn't...show more content...
I wanted to thank you for that. I'm actually going to miss this class but it helped get that much closer to my dream. Thank you for

My First Day Of Class Essay
New Beginnings
I walked into high school not knowing what to expect. This year I was able to pick my own schedule, which I mostly filled with easy, effortless
classes because only one english credit was needed and seven credit hours to fill. I chose to take a three–hour block class senior year about child
development mostly just because my friends were in it. Who does not want class with their friends? The first day of class, we went over the
outline for the entire year. First semester was to be completely devoted to learning about how children grow and develop, from zygote to old age. I
was okay with this, because I have always been interested in the human body and the way we interact with others. At this point I was excited to learn
more. My teacher then told us that second semester we would be spending every class period in a classroom of our choice on our high school campus.
This made me feel a bit uneasy. I had never worked with children before and didn't know if I had the patience or drive to do so. First semester we
were able to visit a few classrooms that interested us to see where we might be placed for second semester. The first day, I went to a second grade
classroom and a Kindergarten classroom. These were all very out of my comfort zone. The children were very independent and didn't seem to have a
drive to learn. Most of them just scribbled the answers down and tossed it into the turn–in pile. I wanted them to be excited to learn, not just wish the

My First Day Of English Class
On the first day of English class, I aspired that I was going to be a great writer. As Loren Eiseley says in her poem, "The Snout" "It began with a
strangled gasping for air" (Eiseley). College English came at an unbelievable speed. The material I learned from high school didn't match up to the
information I was about to encounter. To me the class felt like a dream that I have to pass to move on into a better place. But, ever since the class, I
have acquired knowledge and developed many new skills in English like how to transform my mediocre essay, into a proper use of accurate
punctuations, great transitions and detailed paragraphs. Even before the first day of class, I was thinking of the night before, the late night thinking
about learning new material and being picked on by the teacher about not know certain information. As Loren Eiseley says "It was a place of low life.
In it the human brain began" (Eiseley). To me, English was a place of sadness and anxiety attacks. But the first day of English was amazing. I learned
more about the teacher and that I am not alone when it comes to not know how to do certain things. At the beginning of the semester I barely knew
what a transition was or how to use it. After the long, but helpful presentations, I learned more about transitions that I never knew existed. I learned
where they aren't and supposed to be in an essay. While, the hardest concept in English for me was the commas. The Commas for me is still a struggle.

My Experience In A College Class
"Welcome Class to Composition one." Those words were voiced by my professor, Mrs. Robinson, on the first day of school. Initially, I thought to
myself, do I even belong in this college course class. Before school had even begun, the stress over the summer about my English skills was eating
me alive. Why? Well, in my past English classes I received A's on all of my essays, but this college class did not seem so easy. Also, I was always
fascinated by all the arts and sciences, but English never struck interest in me. I never thought that I could write any decent essays. The reason I
insecure about my writing skills was because of the ACT. Since the ACT is the talk about how smart an individual is, my ACT score was not very high.
As the course continued, the first essay approached quickly. I remember being stressed about this essay because of my writing insecurities. Although
I managed to acquire a decent grade, I promised myself to strive to make myself a better writer. I started to read Norton Field Guide to Writing
handbook also known as the yellow book, and slowly but surely started to develop knowledge of good writing skills and tips to improve my essays.
This allowed me to grow as a writer and slowly my insecurities started to dwindle, and I began to gain confidence in myself. I never would've thought
that the next time I took the ACT that my English score would be my highest. When getting my score back and realizing that I had improved so much,
I began to wonder how I

A.First Day of Class Introduction Letter Discussion
At the beginning of the semester, I wasn't sure about my major option. Entering Fresno State as a transfer student, I declared my major as Business
Administration with the option of Entrepreneurship. Even though I had declared my option, I was also considering Marketing. The classes in the
Entrepreneurship option didn't excite me as the classes in Marketing did. With that, I changed my option to Marketing. The cover letter assignment
also helped me make my decision to change my major option. Because I was still considering Marketing at that time, I had no clue which positions I
would like to have in the future. While I researched, the job position for a market research analysist popped up. I read the description and to my
surprise, it matched my interest! By completing this assignment, I learned what skills and experience I need to gain. I'm excited for next semester,
since I will begin taking Marketing courses.
In my letter, I talked about my high school, which emphasized on presentation and communication skills. I attended Duncan Polytechnical High
School. Duncan is known for its Portfolio Day event and career training program. Every year, Duncan hosts a Portfolio Day event where students are
dressed in professional interview style attire and present their portfolio to a community member. The community member is a volunteer who could be a
local business owner, previous student, etc. They provide constructive feedback

First Year Students Essay
First year students are faced with various social challenges. One of these challenges will be attempting to manage a level of cultural and social
diversity which may differ from what they are familiar with in their communities. First year students enter a new social realm as they begin their
studies. They are forced to recreate their social world, as the meet new people and make new friends. A first yearstudent will be faced with making his
/her own decisions about drugs, sex, alcohol and other. Partying may cause problems as bad decisions may be made due to the use of drugs and/or
alcohol.
Transition into the college life may have an impact on how first year students prioritize and manage their time. First year students have to learn how

Staying away from home in an unfamiliar environment with new people can induce homesickness in many first year students worldwide.
The social pressures of fitting in and making new friends affect first year students all over the world. Students face social pressures such as partying,
drinking and taking drugs. It is also challenging for first years to make new friends as they are in an unfamiliar environment.
There is a vast difference between South Africa's first year dropout rate and America's first year dropout rate. South Africa has a first year dropout rate
of 50–60%, whereas the United States of America has a first year dropout rate of 30%. A possible reason for this vast difference is the admission
requirements. South Africa has lower admission requirements than the US. Therefore students with lower marks are being accepted into university in
South Africa and are dropping out sooner due to their low marks and not being able to handle the academic content. The United States has stricter
acceptance rules which results in a lower dropout rate as the students that are accepted have higher marks and are able to handle the academic

My First Day Of School Essay
The first day of school is nerve–wracking for most people, for me, the first day was especially terrifying. The first day of a college class is probably
more crazy than all others. My mom and younger sister, Michaela, were busy taking pictures as I attempted to run out of the door. After being
homeschooled for the last six years, I knew it would be a much different experience. I had been in my room alone doing school; I was content with
where I was. The morning of the first day of class, I was so busy that I didn't have time to be nervous. However, as I ran out the door, my heart rate
elevated to a pace of 138 bpm. I felt older, nervous, excited, and anxious as I left for Pellissippi. Although it had been six years since I had been in a
classroom, I realized that all of my worry was for nothing once I walked into Ms. Brown's class.
The summer after I completed the 6th grade, my parents decided to pull me out of my Baptist, private school and homeschool me. I, like most
kids, was not thrilled with the decision, but being only 11 years old, I had no say in the matter. Despite my initial reservations, being
homeschooled was a great experience for me, but I began to get bored. I missed seeing people every day. It was just me and my family. I was ready
for a new experience, something big, and college was exactly what I was looking for. It was Sunday night, and there was a high probability that class
would be cancelled. I prayed that that wouldn't happen, however, it did. The

I Was The First Real Education Class Essay
Coming into this class I wasn't sure what to expect but I was really looking forward to it. I had some friends that had already taken the class and I
had heard nothing but good things about it. I was excited for it mainly because it was the first real education class I was taking. I had a feeling that
this class wasn't going to be your typical lecture. I was a little nervous going into it because I can be sort of shy. I will admit the first day I was a
little freaked out when I realized we weren't going to sit at desks or anything. I think I was mostly nervous because I just didn't feel comfortable around
everyone yet. I quickly became more excited about the class rather than nervous after learning more about what the class was going to consist of. I
went into the class with a really positive mindset about building our learning community. I promised myself that I would continue to put my best
effort into the class even on days when I felt overwhelmed with other things. I was eager for the teaching opportunities because this was my first
class where we actually were going to be able to teach and not just talk about teaching. I also promised myself that I would always do my best work
not just because I wanted to but, because I just had this feeling that you would know if I didn't. I guess looking back it was kind of silly of me to
assume that you would know what kind of work I am capable of, but if nothing else it motivated me to do my best. I thought to myself "She has seen

I Am A First Generation College Student Essay
I am a first generation college student that has made it to a higher education. I see myself as the second daughter, that has come out the land of pride
and production. I am from Richmond, California, but that's just where I geographically from, when in reality I came from a strong family of
immigrants. My parents both came to the United States as a young 26, and 24–year–old parents of one child. I did not come until two years later that I
came, I came into the world, and was already marked with the name of an anchor baby. As I grow up I did not really know what I was, what I did
was always question myself, am I just a reason to keep my parents here longer? Why am I called an anchor baby? I felt that I did not fit in but my
schools I went to school always had a mixture of students. I did not know what I was or who I was, I had not direct connection to any ethnicity. When I
was in elementary school there where a mixture of Whites, Asians, Latinos, and African Americans ethnicities, grow up in a multicultural area I didn't
think about race or class as much as late in life. Race was a topic that I did not really think and talked about until I was placed into a private school
that class was visible, and I began to be more aware or class and race. I would not talk about race or class at school, but I would wait to talk about it
when I would get home. At the time I did not know what race really meant, I thought the race was just like ethnicity, I did not even think about race as

Before entering English 1301, I had my doubts about what this class was going to consist of. Considering this is a college level English class, and a
subject I struggled in, my worries were not at ease. Throughout the year, my understanding and comprehension of the writing process, as well as how to
write different varieties of writing, have strengthened. After partaking in this course, I am confident I have met the student learning outcomes. After
completing my first college level English class, I would be expected to meet four student learning outcomes. One of those being I could use rhetorical
devices to strengthen my essays. Coming into this course, I did not have a grasp over this subject and knew it was something I could improve on....show

I have improved my grammar through feedback from my instructor, and workshops I participated in. There is a significant difference between my
writing conventions from the beginning of the year to my present writing conventions. In my second essay, The Drastic Evolution of Teen Life, I have
noticed many writing convention errors. In this essay I said, "Also with the lack of technology, they were influenced to be more adventurous and get
out of the house and explore things on their own" (The Drastic Evolution of Teen Life) This sentence is a prime example of faulty sentence structure; it
lacks punctuation in the right places. My third essay, Euthanasia: Condemned by Doctors, has less errors and shows improvement on these writing
conventions. Improvement can be seen in the sentence, " Euthanasia should not be legal because it is not morally correct, undermines medical
research, and denies patients the final stage of growth"(Euthanasia: Condemned by Doctors). This shows development on sentence structure,
punctuation, and helps gives my essay a polished look. Without this, errors I may have previously made would be even more

My First School Day Of 11th Grade Essay
Red–Not So Terrifying After All
I used to be very reluctant to write essays in English because it was hard for me to express my ideas in my second language, and it is easy to make
mistakes. I was afraid of making mistakes, but the more I was afraid the more mistakes I made, forming an endless loop. Mr. Wang, my high English
school teacher, broke the loop by showing that making errors is not terrifying and by building my confidence through the process of correcting errors.
My first impression of Mr. Wang was not so good. It was the first school day of 11th grade. I remember it was a sticky summer afternoon, and the
air was heavy and sweltering. Given the other courses I was taking, only Mr. Wang's class fit in my schedule. While walking towards the
classroom, I thought I was so unfortunate because Mr. Wang was known for his strict teaching and his preference for giving low grades. After
crossing a narrow corridor, I found my classroom, a small room with no windows and no AC. After I found a seat, a man in a white shirt that had a
turned little bit yellow in front of chest came into the classroom. He stared at us through his thick, fogged glasses for a while. After combing his
greasy hair, he said, "Good afternoon everyone, my name is Wang and I will be yourwriting teacher." Then he started teaching. In that small room, I
felt I was suffocating and his voice made me drowsy. I doubted his teaching ability. "Tony," I heard. Suddenly he called my name.

My First Day Of The Class Essay
When I was updating my Fall quarter schedule, I was not sure whether or not I should take another class, since I knew all three of my classes
would be challenging. Because of that, if ever I decided to take fourth class, I wanted a class that would be easy, fun, and enjoyable. I also wanted a
class that would help me raise my GPA and help me fulfill some of my elective units. Upon scrolling through my options, I came acrossEducation 001:
Imagining Teaching Education. Looking at the overview I thought to myself, "This shouldn't be too bad. It's an introduction on how to teach, it's
only 2 units, and we would only meet once a week. How hard can this class get?!" Without a doubt, I registered to this class thinking it will be an
easy A. The first day of the class was indeed fun and I was positive about my decision in enrolling to the class.
However, all of my assumptions took a detour downhill after I attended weeks two and three of the class. From then, I realized that this class is not
the typical "two unit, easy A" class, rather it was more of a "work hard for it to get an A" class. I struggled in the beginning of the course. Although I
would do all the readings required for the week, my reading questions did not seem to reflect that because of the unsatisfied scores I would get.
Honestly, this class stressed me out; especially knowing that it is only a 2–unit course, but the amount of workload and the stress it was providing me
seemed like it was a 4–unit class. Because

My First Class Reflection
In the First year writing seminar, we were introduced to three themes the class would be focused on Women's Leadership, Social Responsibility, and
Global Awareness. Our Reading assignments and the class novel would be focused on these themes to give us a better understanding of them. On the
first day, I only had a basic definition of what these three themes meant and I was interested in learning more about them. As the class continued I
began to have a better understanding of what it meant to execute these themes in the best way possible. It is the end of the semester and the full
knowledge of these themes has really changed how I see the world and my future.
Past
I am the eldest child in my family and as the eldest, I should be the leader of my younger family. However, I never felt comfortable in theleadership
position and would always avoid it in certain situations. There are many examples of leadership starting at a young age, for example in Kouzes &
Posner, Leadership Begins with an Inner Journey, the article mentions of a little girl taking a leadership role at a young age."Melissa also started a
club, called kids F.A.C. E (Kids For a Clean Environment)." When I first read this article for the first–year writing seminar I was shocked that someone
so young could achieve this. I realized that leadership can happen at any age and all it takes is the determination to become a leader. I was always
afraid to take the opportunity to a leadership position because I was a girl and people might not take me seriously. At the beginning of the semester, I
thought that being a woman leader was something only a certain person could achieve. Through this class, I learned that it's not about genders or race,
it is about having the determination and take the opportunity to be a leader of anything and everything. My knowledge of social responsibility was little
at the beginning of the semester.
I thought social responsibility, on how you act in society and how you interact with society. In my initial definition of social responsibility, I focused
more on what we can do as an individual to better society. This could include citizens volunteering or trying to understand and accept other cultures
around the world.

English Composition Self-Analysis
When I went into my first English composition class I was very intimidated by all the stories I heard about college. I heard about how stressful
college was and how one had to write a lot of papers that had a high page length requirement, which I hadn't done in high school except for one or two
assignments. Once I got into the class and was assigned the first essay which was a narrative, I found it very daunting because it had to be at least
three pages in length. "How could I ever write about one story for three pages without going off topic?" I thought. Once I got the essay started, I
found out that I needed to describe the story so that anyone without background information could tell what was going on. As we were assigned
more essays, I found the same concept in every single essay, I had to be able to describe what was going on in great detail, without including
irrelevant information. In high school, I usually filled the length requirement by including information that was irrelevant, but I quickly figured out I
could no longer do this in college which is one way I think I have improved as a writer. In this class I learned that I needed to stop making assumptions
in my writing, keep my descriptions very specific, properly elaborate on quotes, and how to brainstorm a paper before I start writing. One thing that I
noticed was that each essay seemed to build off the last. The narrative essay made me describe a situation that I went through with good details. The

My First Spanish Class Essay
When I was in eighth grade and my class was choosing our schedules for our first year of high school, I was told that for the diploma I wanted, I
would have to take a foreign language. I chose Spanish, because I thought it would be easy. Little did I know that that decision would change my
life forever. My first Spanish class helped me discover that languages can be more than just words on a page. I had never thought of language as
something that could be a thing of beauty. The way that words flow and come to life has become a thing of wonder to me, and I can't wait to continue
to learn new meanings and nuances. I would like to go to college for Spanish Education because I still remember my excitement at the thought of one

Essay About My English Class
I can remember seeing that I had to take an English class my first semester of college. I was already overwhelmed with starting college, and having
to write college essays made me get even more nervous. I sat down with my mom and decided to look at the English classes available, and I finally
decided that I had to take an evening class to make it work in my schedule. The first day of English came and now looking back it was not as bad as I
thought. It made me a better writer and be where I am today. It may have taken me some time to get where I am today, but at least I am on the right
track. English Composition helped me realize that I am my own author and have strengths that I did not realize I had. When I first started college I did
not know what to expect with an English class. I liked writing about topics that interested me, but high school did not allow me to do that. I took

I learned many techniques from my professor. He helped me realize that it is okay to have your own opinion as long as you back it up. He showed
me that I am an author when I did not think I was. He also told us to read our essays out loud when we proofread, and I always did this technique
before submitting all my essays. I can remember having to write my first essay and I was scared, because I felt like I had to get a good grade. I
started thinking about what tools I could use to help me, and I decided to go to The Learning Center to help with my essay. When I went there they
would make edits to my essay and then explain what I should change. The tutor noticed I used multiple choppy sentences and commas in spots there
should not be. Sometimes I would even go twice to make sure I did not miss any minor mistakes. Going there helped me feel more confident as a
writer and I learned from my mistakes. I had many helpful techniques from multiple people that shaped me into the writer I am

My First Time Taking An Online Class
This semester was my first time taking an online class, it was nerve wrecking at first I am proud about how well I transition from the traditional
class room setting to this. Going into this class I knew that there was going to be a lot of writing being that it was an English course. I expected to
ease though and not spend so many amount of hours on assignments. I expected it to be better structure and for all of my peers to participate in the
class. For example when we had the first professor, it was chaos trying to find a partner to do a peer review with. Many of the students were not as
active in the course as they should have been. Now, that it has come down to the last week I'll say I'm pretty satisfied with how the class turned
out. Getting a new professor was good because even when the old professor was still over the course he was not nearly as active as professor
Mustachio. I will be taking another online line class this fall semester. I am not sure if it is going to be a lot of writing if so I feel that this class as
prepared me for what I should and should not expect.
When it came time to do writing assignments essays in particular. I would always start out by drafting my ideas on paper. Listing out all the options that
I could think of to go with the particular assignment. Then begin to write out my entire essay on paper before typing. Unfortunately it is hard for me to
carry out this plan to its entirety. I always stop writing and just type and often I do not

First Art Class

  • 1. First Art Class Freshman year of high school, I signed up for my first art class. While my previous interactions with art had not been few, they had been limited to traditional drawings and paintings. Most had been either portraits or landscapes; all had been hyper–realistic. Without any other examples, I concluded that this was the only type of art that was considered real art. I enjoyed the first semester of art class. However, the assignments deviated little from traditional art. The assignments were standard issue: black and white ink drawings, landscapes, and basic portraits. I could not draw to save my life, and my painting was not much better. Realism was not something my artwork even remotely approached. Previously, I had made some art: wonky clay figures of animals and humans and anything else for the most part. But, in my mind these could not be considered art; I had never seen anything similar in a museum. A few days before winter break, the class took a field trip to the local art museum. The top two floors held the usual fair: old oil painting of landscapes and portraits. The basement floor, however, was promised to hold an exhibit different from all the others. Through that floor, we were rushed by our tour guide; she preferred to focus on the upper stories. However, what we were shown on...show more content... The artwork was like nothing I had ever seen before. Sculptures filled the entire space; huge sculptures, some taller than I was. And, they didn't just depict humans in overworked poses. There were birds suspended in midair, sheep surrounded by arrows on all sides, skulls burning with fire, tree branch collages and huge kaleidoscopic tunnels. Things were made out of who knows what, the colors were bright, the work was surreal. I suddenly understood that art was not in fact, limited to painting on canvas. It could focus on anything, be made out of anything, and mean Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 2. What Is My Best Class Essay When I first came into this class the first thing we did was a writing assignment. We had to write down 5 problems that I personally had with writing and to expand on these problems. I wrote: I always seem to take too much time to think about what I'm going to write then I actually do writing, I tend to make mistake when re–reading something, I lose my train of thought easily, English has never been my best class, and I'm a slow writing. Throughout this semester in English Composition 102 I feel like this class has really helped me improve on all 5 of these problems and then some. This class has really improved my writing style and structure to a point where others can see a real difference in my writing then before, even though that wasn't...show more content... • 3. My First Day Of Class Essay New Beginnings I walked into high school not knowing what to expect. This year I was able to pick my own schedule, which I mostly filled with easy, effortless classes because only one english credit was needed and seven credit hours to fill. I chose to take a three–hour block class senior year about child development mostly just because my friends were in it. Who does not want class with their friends? The first day of class, we went over the outline for the entire year. First semester was to be completely devoted to learning about how children grow and develop, from zygote to old age. I was okay with this, because I have always been interested in the human body and the way we interact with others. At this point I was excited to learn more. My teacher then told us that second semester we would be spending every class period in a classroom of our choice on our high school campus. This made me feel a bit uneasy. I had never worked with children before and didn't know if I had the patience or drive to do so. First semester we were able to visit a few classrooms that interested us to see where we might be placed for second semester. The first day, I went to a second grade classroom and a Kindergarten classroom. These were all very out of my comfort zone. The children were very independent and didn't seem to have a drive to learn. Most of them just scribbled the answers down and tossed it into the turn–in pile. I wanted them to be excited to learn, not just wish the school Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 4. My First Day Of English Class On the first day of English class, I aspired that I was going to be a great writer. As Loren Eiseley says in her poem, "The Snout" "It began with a strangled gasping for air" (Eiseley). College English came at an unbelievable speed. The material I learned from high school didn't match up to the information I was about to encounter. To me the class felt like a dream that I have to pass to move on into a better place. But, ever since the class, I have acquired knowledge and developed many new skills in English like how to transform my mediocre essay, into a proper use of accurate punctuations, great transitions and detailed paragraphs. Even before the first day of class, I was thinking of the night before, the late night thinking about learning new material and being picked on by the teacher about not know certain information. As Loren Eiseley says "It was a place of low life. In it the human brain began" (Eiseley). To me, English was a place of sadness and anxiety attacks. But the first day of English was amazing. I learned more about the teacher and that I am not alone when it comes to not know how to do certain things. At the beginning of the semester I barely knew what a transition was or how to use it. After the long, but helpful presentations, I learned more about transitions that I never knew existed. I learned where they aren't and supposed to be in an essay. While, the hardest concept in English for me was the commas. The Commas for me is still a struggle. But Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 5. My Experience In A College Class "Welcome Class to Composition one." Those words were voiced by my professor, Mrs. Robinson, on the first day of school. Initially, I thought to myself, do I even belong in this college course class. Before school had even begun, the stress over the summer about my English skills was eating me alive. Why? Well, in my past English classes I received A's on all of my essays, but this college class did not seem so easy. Also, I was always fascinated by all the arts and sciences, but English never struck interest in me. I never thought that I could write any decent essays. The reason I insecure about my writing skills was because of the ACT. Since the ACT is the talk about how smart an individual is, my ACT score was not very high. As the course continued, the first essay approached quickly. I remember being stressed about this essay because of my writing insecurities. Although I managed to acquire a decent grade, I promised myself to strive to make myself a better writer. I started to read Norton Field Guide to Writing handbook also known as the yellow book, and slowly but surely started to develop knowledge of good writing skills and tips to improve my essays. This allowed me to grow as a writer and slowly my insecurities started to dwindle, and I began to gain confidence in myself. I never would've thought that the next time I took the ACT that my English score would be my highest. When getting my score back and realizing that I had improved so much, I began to wonder how I Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 6. A.First Day of Class Introduction Letter Discussion At the beginning of the semester, I wasn't sure about my major option. Entering Fresno State as a transfer student, I declared my major as Business Administration with the option of Entrepreneurship. Even though I had declared my option, I was also considering Marketing. The classes in the Entrepreneurship option didn't excite me as the classes in Marketing did. With that, I changed my option to Marketing. The cover letter assignment also helped me make my decision to change my major option. Because I was still considering Marketing at that time, I had no clue which positions I would like to have in the future. While I researched, the job position for a market research analysist popped up. I read the description and to my surprise, it matched my interest! By completing this assignment, I learned what skills and experience I need to gain. I'm excited for next semester, since I will begin taking Marketing courses. In my letter, I talked about my high school, which emphasized on presentation and communication skills. I attended Duncan Polytechnical High School. Duncan is known for its Portfolio Day event and career training program. Every year, Duncan hosts a Portfolio Day event where students are dressed in professional interview style attire and present their portfolio to a community member. The community member is a volunteer who could be a local business owner, previous student, etc. They provide constructive feedback Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 7. First Year Students Essay First year students are faced with various social challenges. One of these challenges will be attempting to manage a level of cultural and social diversity which may differ from what they are familiar with in their communities. First year students enter a new social realm as they begin their studies. They are forced to recreate their social world, as the meet new people and make new friends. A first yearstudent will be faced with making his /her own decisions about drugs, sex, alcohol and other. Partying may cause problems as bad decisions may be made due to the use of drugs and/or alcohol. Staying away from home in an unfamiliar environment with new people can induce homesickness in many first year students worldwide. The social pressures of fitting in and making new friends affect first year students all over the world. Students face social pressures such as partying, drinking and taking drugs. It is also challenging for first years to make new friends as they are in an unfamiliar environment. There is a vast difference between South Africa's first year dropout rate and America's first year dropout rate. South Africa has a first year dropout rate of 50–60%, whereas the United States of America has a first year dropout rate of 30%. A possible reason for this vast difference is the admission requirements. South Africa has lower admission requirements than the US. Therefore students with lower marks are being accepted into university in South Africa and are dropping out sooner due to their low marks and not being able to handle the academic content. The United States has stricter acceptance rules which results in a lower dropout rate as the students that are accepted have higher marks and are able to handle the academic Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 8. My First Day Of School Essay The first day of school is nerve–wracking for most people, for me, the first day was especially terrifying. The first day of a college class is probably more crazy than all others. My mom and younger sister, Michaela, were busy taking pictures as I attempted to run out of the door. After being homeschooled for the last six years, I knew it would be a much different experience. I had been in my room alone doing school; I was content with where I was. The morning of the first day of class, I was so busy that I didn't have time to be nervous. However, as I ran out the door, my heart rate elevated to a pace of 138 bpm. I felt older, nervous, excited, and anxious as I left for Pellissippi. Although it had been six years since I had been in a classroom, I realized that all of my worry was for nothing once I walked into Ms. Brown's class. The summer after I completed the 6th grade, my parents decided to pull me out of my Baptist, private school and homeschool me. I, like most kids, was not thrilled with the decision, but being only 11 years old, I had no say in the matter. Despite my initial reservations, being homeschooled was a great experience for me, but I began to get bored. I missed seeing people every day. It was just me and my family. I was ready for a new experience, something big, and college was exactly what I was looking for. It was Sunday night, and there was a high probability that class would be cancelled. I prayed that that wouldn't happen, however, it did. The Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 9. I Was The First Real Education Class Essay Coming into this class I wasn't sure what to expect but I was really looking forward to it. I had some friends that had already taken the class and I had heard nothing but good things about it. I was excited for it mainly because it was the first real education class I was taking. I had a feeling that this class wasn't going to be your typical lecture. I was a little nervous going into it because I can be sort of shy. I will admit the first day I was a little freaked out when I realized we weren't going to sit at desks or anything. I think I was mostly nervous because I just didn't feel comfortable around everyone yet. I quickly became more excited about the class rather than nervous after learning more about what the class was going to consist of. I went into the class with a really positive mindset about building our learning community. I promised myself that I would continue to put my best effort into the class even on days when I felt overwhelmed with other things. I was eager for the teaching opportunities because this was my first class where we actually were going to be able to teach and not just talk about teaching. I also promised myself that I would always do my best work not just because I wanted to but, because I just had this feeling that you would know if I didn't. I guess looking back it was kind of silly of me to assume that you would know what kind of work I am capable of, but if nothing else it motivated me to do my best. I thought to myself "She has seen Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 10. I Am A First Generation College Student Essay I am a first generation college student that has made it to a higher education. I see myself as the second daughter, that has come out the land of pride and production. I am from Richmond, California, but that's just where I geographically from, when in reality I came from a strong family of immigrants. My parents both came to the United States as a young 26, and 24–year–old parents of one child. I did not come until two years later that I came, I came into the world, and was already marked with the name of an anchor baby. As I grow up I did not really know what I was, what I did was always question myself, am I just a reason to keep my parents here longer? Why am I called an anchor baby? I felt that I did not fit in but my schools I went to school always had a mixture of students. I did not know what I was or who I was, I had not direct connection to any ethnicity. When I was in elementary school there where a mixture of Whites, Asians, Latinos, and African Americans ethnicities, grow up in a multicultural area I didn't think about race or class as much as late in life. Race was a topic that I did not really think and talked about until I was placed into a private school that class was visible, and I began to be more aware or class and race. I would not talk about race or class at school, but I would wait to talk about it when I would get home. At the time I did not know what race really meant, I thought the race was just like ethnicity, I did not even think about race as Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 11. Before entering English 1301, I had my doubts about what this class was going to consist of. Considering this is a college level English class, and a subject I struggled in, my worries were not at ease. Throughout the year, my understanding and comprehension of the writing process, as well as how to write different varieties of writing, have strengthened. After partaking in this course, I am confident I have met the student learning outcomes. After completing my first college level English class, I would be expected to meet four student learning outcomes. One of those being I could use rhetorical devices to strengthen my essays. Coming into this course, I did not have a grasp over this subject and knew it was something I could improve on....show more content... I have improved my grammar through feedback from my instructor, and workshops I participated in. There is a significant difference between my writing conventions from the beginning of the year to my present writing conventions. In my second essay, The Drastic Evolution of Teen Life, I have noticed many writing convention errors. In this essay I said, "Also with the lack of technology, they were influenced to be more adventurous and get out of the house and explore things on their own" (The Drastic Evolution of Teen Life) This sentence is a prime example of faulty sentence structure; it lacks punctuation in the right places. My third essay, Euthanasia: Condemned by Doctors, has less errors and shows improvement on these writing conventions. Improvement can be seen in the sentence, " Euthanasia should not be legal because it is not morally correct, undermines medical research, and denies patients the final stage of growth"(Euthanasia: Condemned by Doctors). This shows development on sentence structure, punctuation, and helps gives my essay a polished look. • 12. My First School Day Of 11th Grade Essay Red–Not So Terrifying After All I used to be very reluctant to write essays in English because it was hard for me to express my ideas in my second language, and it is easy to make mistakes. I was afraid of making mistakes, but the more I was afraid the more mistakes I made, forming an endless loop. Mr. Wang, my high English school teacher, broke the loop by showing that making errors is not terrifying and by building my confidence through the process of correcting errors. My first impression of Mr. Wang was not so good. It was the first school day of 11th grade. I remember it was a sticky summer afternoon, and the air was heavy and sweltering. Given the other courses I was taking, only Mr. Wang's class fit in my schedule. While walking towards the classroom, I thought I was so unfortunate because Mr. Wang was known for his strict teaching and his preference for giving low grades. After crossing a narrow corridor, I found my classroom, a small room with no windows and no AC. After I found a seat, a man in a white shirt that had a turned little bit yellow in front of chest came into the classroom. He stared at us through his thick, fogged glasses for a while. After combing his greasy hair, he said, "Good afternoon everyone, my name is Wang and I will be yourwriting teacher." Then he started teaching. In that small room, I felt I was suffocating and his voice made me drowsy. I doubted his teaching ability. "Tony," I heard. Suddenly he called my name. • 13. My First Day Of The Class Essay When I was updating my Fall quarter schedule, I was not sure whether or not I should take another class, since I knew all three of my classes would be challenging. Because of that, if ever I decided to take fourth class, I wanted a class that would be easy, fun, and enjoyable. I also wanted a class that would help me raise my GPA and help me fulfill some of my elective units. Upon scrolling through my options, I came acrossEducation 001: Imagining Teaching Education. Looking at the overview I thought to myself, "This shouldn't be too bad. It's an introduction on how to teach, it's only 2 units, and we would only meet once a week. How hard can this class get?!" Without a doubt, I registered to this class thinking it will be an easy A. The first day of the class was indeed fun and I was positive about my decision in enrolling to the class. However, all of my assumptions took a detour downhill after I attended weeks two and three of the class. From then, I realized that this class is not the typical "two unit, easy A" class, rather it was more of a "work hard for it to get an A" class. I struggled in the beginning of the course. Although I would do all the readings required for the week, my reading questions did not seem to reflect that because of the unsatisfied scores I would get. Honestly, this class stressed me out; especially knowing that it is only a 2–unit course, but the amount of workload and the stress it was providing me seemed like it was a 4–unit class. • 14. My First Class Reflection In the First year writing seminar, we were introduced to three themes the class would be focused on Women's Leadership, Social Responsibility, and Global Awareness. Our Reading assignments and the class novel would be focused on these themes to give us a better understanding of them. On the first day, I only had a basic definition of what these three themes meant and I was interested in learning more about them. As the class continued I began to have a better understanding of what it meant to execute these themes in the best way possible. It is the end of the semester and the full knowledge of these themes has really changed how I see the world and my future. Past I am the eldest child in my family and as the eldest, I should be the leader of my younger family. However, I never felt comfortable in theleadership position and would always avoid it in certain situations. There are many examples of leadership starting at a young age, for example in Kouzes & Posner, Leadership Begins with an Inner Journey, the article mentions of a little girl taking a leadership role at a young age."Melissa also started a club, called kids F.A.C. E (Kids For a Clean Environment)." When I first read this article for the first–year writing seminar I was shocked that someone so young could achieve this. I realized that leadership can happen at any age and all it takes is the determination to become a leader. I was always afraid to take the opportunity to a leadership position because I was a girl and people might not take me seriously. At the beginning of the semester, I thought that being a woman leader was something only a certain person could achieve. Through this class, I learned that it's not about genders or race, it is about having the determination and take the opportunity to be a leader of anything and everything. My knowledge of social responsibility was little at the beginning of the semester. I thought social responsibility, on how you act in society and how you interact with society. In my initial definition of social responsibility, I focused more on what we can do as an individual to better society. This could include citizens volunteering or trying to understand and accept other cultures around the world. Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 15. English Composition Self-Analysis When I went into my first English composition class I was very intimidated by all the stories I heard about college. I heard about how stressful college was and how one had to write a lot of papers that had a high page length requirement, which I hadn't done in high school except for one or two assignments. Once I got into the class and was assigned the first essay which was a narrative, I found it very daunting because it had to be at least three pages in length. "How could I ever write about one story for three pages without going off topic?" I thought. Once I got the essay started, I found out that I needed to describe the story so that anyone without background information could tell what was going on. As we were assigned more essays, I found the same concept in every single essay, I had to be able to describe what was going on in great detail, without including irrelevant information. In high school, I usually filled the length requirement by including information that was irrelevant, but I quickly figured out I could no longer do this in college which is one way I think I have improved as a writer. In this class I learned that I needed to stop making assumptions in my writing, keep my descriptions very specific, properly elaborate on quotes, and how to brainstorm a paper before I start writing. One thing that I noticed was that each essay seemed to build off the last. The narrative essay made me describe a situation that I went through with good details. My First Spanish Class Essay When I was in eighth grade and my class was choosing our schedules for our first year of high school, I was told that for the diploma I wanted, I would have to take a foreign language. I chose Spanish, because I thought it would be easy. Little did I know that that decision would change my life forever. My first Spanish class helped me discover that languages can be more than just words on a page. I had never thought of language as something that could be a thing of beauty. The way that words flow and come to life has become a thing of wonder to me, and I can't wait to continue to learn new meanings and nuances. This is a brand new experience of my life having to leave my friends and teachers in middle school behind. New school, new friends and new teachers are all part of this new school year. This one is different though, it's the first week of high school. Most freshmen like me that enter the school are scared. I think the first week of the school is the easiest since there would not be a lot of homework and what you need to do is to listen to what you need for the class and know other people well in the class. I was already overwhelmed with starting college, and having to write college essays made me get even more nervous. I sat down with my mom and decided to look at the English classes available, and I finally decided that I had to take an evening class to make it work in my schedule. The first day of English came and now looking back it was not as bad as I thought. It made me a better writer and be where I am today. It may have taken me some time to get where I am today, but at least I am on the right track. English Composition helped me realize that I am my own author and have strengths that I did not realize I had. When I first started college I did not know what to expect with an English class. I liked writing about topics that interested me, but high school did not allow me to do that. I took American History and we would have to write...show more content... I learned many techniques from my professor. He helped me realize that it is okay to have your own opinion as long as you back it up. He showed me that I am an author when I did not think I was. He also told us to read our essays out loud when we proofread, and I always did this technique before submitting all my essays. I can remember having to write my first essay and I was scared, because I felt like I had to get a good grade. I started thinking about what tools I could use to help me, and I decided to go to The Learning Center to help with my essay. When I went there they would make edits to my essay and then explain what I should change. The tutor noticed I used multiple choppy sentences and commas in spots there should not be. Sometimes I would even go twice to make sure I did not miss any minor mistakes. Going there helped me feel more confident as a writer and I learned from my mistakes. I had many helpful techniques from multiple people that shaped me into the writer I am Get more content on HelpWriting.net

My First Time Taking An Online Class This semester was my first time taking an online class, it was nerve wrecking at first I am proud about how well I transition from the traditional class room setting to this. Going into this class I knew that there was going to be a lot of writing being that it was an English course. I expected to ease though and not spend so many amount of hours on assignments. I expected it to be better structure and for all of my peers to participate in the class. For example when we had the first professor, it was chaos trying to find a partner to do a peer review with. Many of the students were not as active in the course as they should have been. Now, that it has come down to the last week I'll say I'm pretty satisfied with how the class turned out. Getting a new professor was good because even when the old professor was still over the course he was not nearly as active as professor Mustachio. I will be taking another online line class this fall semester. I am not sure if it is going to be a lot of writing if so I feel that this class as prepared me for what I should and should not expect. When it came time to do writing assignments essays in particular. I would always start out by drafting my ideas on paper. Listing out all the options that I could think of to go with the particular assignment. Then begin to write out my entire essay on paper before typing. Unfortunately it is hard for me to carry out this plan to its entirety. I always stop writing and just type and often I do not Get more content on HelpWriting.net
