UF Gainesville Financial Capital Case Study
With everything that the UF Gainesville campus has to offer, the foundation of its production relies in financial capital. Financial capital refers to all
assets necessary for a company to provide it's good and services. ––––– Anything that has a money value and is used for future revenue can be
considered financial capital as well. This type of capital is sometimes mistaken for economic capital, which its not. Economic capital focuses on
coverage of possible losses from unexpected risk. ––––The University of Florida receives a lot of its assets from the UF Alumni Association (UFAA).
The funds that were used to build many of UF's facilities have come from Alumni members or long–term employees. Some of the school's facilities

Water Purification Safe drinking water is essential to every living being. Access to safe drinking water has improved over the past years, but still
approximately one billion people are deprived of safe and clean water. Over 2.5 billion people have no access to adequate sanitation. A report,
issued in November 2009, suggests that by 2030, in some developing regions of the world, water demand will exceed supply by 50% and
approximately 70% of the fresh water used by humans goes to agriculture. People are using more and more materials that are polluting the water
sources that one drinks from. In nine of the last ten years, large blue–green algae blooms have appeared on the northern part of Lake Winnipeg. These
are caused by excess phosphorus...show more content...
Pure Mineral water suppliers (Bottled Water) Natural mineral water is characterized by its chemical and microbiological composition, which
distinguishes it from drinking water, and may not be treated in any way that alters these properties. People are more health conscious and so, concerned
about the rising water pollution issues, demanding clean drinking water.
Here enters the entrepreneurs with a new innovation of bottled water. A little time ago, there were limited of choices for bottled water available, but
consumers today have more than 3,000 brands in the market to choose from, with Pakistan consisting of around 30 companies and India around 50
companies that are directly involved in the bottled water business. Now these bottled mineral waters are widely accepted in offices, restaurants, railway
stations, airport, bus stands, hospitals, and to some extent even in house–holds as well. So there is good scope for establishing the units for processing
and bottling plain and mineralized drinking water in countries where a potential market is available.
Some people drink bottled water as an alternative to other beverages while others drink it because they prefer its taste or think it is safer than normal
tap or boiled water. Popular and safe bottled water brands vary from

Individualism On Children
In United States, many people have believed that raising children is a private decision according to individual selection. This view can be explained
through the belief of "individualism"– an ideology that notes individuals are responsible for their life. This ideology has been embedded in our society
and it shapes the social policies from the past. Based on this ideology, United States not only respects individual's choice, but also justifies the absence
of social programs and other methods to share the costs of caretaking children with the society, while many industrialized countries share the costs with
society. Other developed countries that recognize the future contributions of children share the cots for raising children to ease the challenges

Tenacity: The True Factor Of War
Tenacity: The True Factor of War One of the most notable Allied losses of World War One was the Gallipoli Campaign. The campaign to took
place through 1915 and 1916, it's the goal was to capture the Dardanelle Straits in order to free the Russian naval forces from the Black Sea.
Although the Gallipoli Campaign failure was the result of many different factors, one could argue that the primary reason the Allies were defeated
was based on the fact that they lost the will to fight. The Allied forces had given up hope of winning the war, whereas the Ottoman forces never gave
up fighting for their homeland thus they had a mental superiority over their Allied counterparts. The Allied forces had been fighting for well over a
year, and they hoped

My Future Essay
My future is something I often think about. Most often, the questions that arise include the common doubts of "Am I doing this right?", or even the
occasional midnight philosophical questions such as "Why are we here?", and so on. For the purpose of this essay, I will focus on the factors that
have allowed me to reach this point in my life and how these factors influenced and continue to influence me, in order to provide me with a
visualization of my future.
Factors that contributed to my current life choices include the desperate want to be something greater, as well as to experience the world in ways
some could only dream of. I study hard, allowing for me to have the possibility of an early graduation. I dream big, allowing me with the
imagination to draw up plans for myself and my future. I work hard, allowing me the strength and vision to execute my plans for the future. The way
that I was raised has greatly benefited me. My parents have taught me that anything and everything is possible as long as you work hard for it despite
the what others may tell you or even if the odds are against you. Another factor that led to my current life, is the amount of time I allow myself to think
about my plans and refine them. This is extremely important because, without a solid, flexible, long–term plan, you could get lost in dreaming about
the future, and end up not accomplishing anything. Hence, many aspects of my life have been planned out with not one or two possible alternatives

Essay on The Future of Education
The Future of Education
As teachers our primary concern should be the students and what type of learning environment will be best suited to meet their needs. There are many
different opinions as top what the most effective or appropriate curriculum is for the students. I do not believe there is any one philosophy that can
provide the ideal curriculum for each and every student. Just as there are numerous methods of teaching, there are also numerous ways to learn. It is
essential that we keep this in mind as we help the students achieve their goals and discover their talents. Above all we must encourage the students to try
new things and do what we can to prevent limiting them in any way.
I do not feel that I...show more content...
I think that many of the schools today merely try to prepare the students to move on to college and by doing so exclude the students who are gifted
with other abilities that are equally important and useful in society, even though those talents may not necessarily be something that can be refined
through a traditional four year college.
As a future teacher, I very strongly believe that students need to be shown practical applications of the concepts they are taught. For myself this is
especially notable in mathematical applications. As teachers we need to not just show how to work through a problem: we need to show why it works
and what it is useful for. Without something to apply the information to math is nothing more than a stream of numbers and formulas that students
memorize for a specific test and then quickly forget. By demonstrating specific examples of applications the students will be able to retain some of the
information easier and then adapt what they learn to other problems they encounter in the future.
Upon graduation I hope to begin teaching Math at the middle school or high school level. Geometry, Trigonometry, and Algebra would be my first
choices of classes I would like to teach, but I feel I would enjoy teaching any of the other forms of math. I would prefer to teach in a rural area since

Uf Entomology Club Research Paper
Dallin Ashby, a graduated UF entomology master's student, normally spits crickets with his 11–year–old son Myles Ashby when they participate in
BugFest. But this year, his 8–year–old daughter, Eliza Ashby, said she was going to try too. Her older sister, Rose Ashby, was in disbelief that her
sister would participate in cricket spitting. "You're really gonna spit a cricket?" said Ashby's 10–year–old daughter, Rose Ashby. "Yahhh!" Eliza said.
Eliza did in fact participate in the cricket spitting. She went through several rounds to try to beat Myles, but she didn't. Her father said there is always

Baldwin said BugFest works as a connection to other resources, too. Kids who come to the festival may be interested in Bug Camp, a summer
camp for middle and high school students. Some kids who started coming to Bug Camp five years ago are starting college at UF next year, she
said. The event benefits current UF students as well. Baldwin said entomology is a found major, people rarely pick it before they come to college.
BugFest is a way to gain visibility for the program and explain what entomologists do and their importance. It started with its target audience being
high school students and students from UF and Santa Fe College. "Entomology impacts everybody, from preserving the food that we eat, to the
clothes that we wear, to human health to animal health," she said. It is important to use the opportunity of BugFest to explain that. The event used to
be on a Thursday night, but so many people would come it was moved to Saturday, two years ago. It was created by Carl Garfield, a former UF
professor, a year before his retirement, in either 2010 or 2011, Baldwin

UF Personal Statement
Completing the Ph.D. degree in Public Health at the prestigious University of Florida would help my future endeavors in the healthcare field
immensely. While attending UF, my goal is to conduct research in infectious diseases, focusing on how to reduce the frequency of their acquisition
and transmission. My research would revolve around the patient's safety; how to reduce the risk of patient's becoming infected with diseases while
in the care of healthcare professionals by looking at changes in the practices of the professionals and the facilities to reduce the risk of infections.
After graduating from UF with a Ph.D. in Public Health, I have hopes of working in a healthcare facility, whether it is a private organization, a
hospital, or a government facility. Ultimately, my dream career goal is to be a Public Health Program Supervisor or a Program Coordinator. Holding
this title will allow me to work with other healthcare leaders on discovering ways...show more content...
Coming from an HBCU I can personally attest to the positive aspects of a diverse campus. Working with and learning from others, students and faculty
included, who think differently than yourself can help prepare the students for both a diverse workplace and world. Interacting with others with
varying perspectives can help increase creative thinking and cultivate a self–awareness once the students enter the workforce after graduation.
Attending a graduate school with a wide variety of students and faculty from different universities, backgrounds, and cultures can foster a sense of
belonging and safety for all that attend. It is easy to feel overwhelmed when encountering a new environment, however, when one knows there is a
warm and accepting place to go to can put many people at ease. Once students feel comfortable with who they are working with the learning process
can go along easier and everyone will ultimately be more

Who Is Marshal Mcluhan
McLuhan
Author and social theorist Tom Wolfe once commented on Canadian professor Marshal McLuhan's mantra, "the medium is the message" saying:
The new technologies...radically alter the entire way people use their five senses, the way they react to things, and therefore, their entire lives and the
entire society. It doesn't matter what the content of a medium like t.v. is... 20 hours a day of sadistic cowboys caving in peoples teeth or... Pablo
Casals droning away on his cello.
How is it that violence and the arts are effective in the same manner? Wouldn't the content be the mostimportant factor in analyzing a television
program? To understand MarshallMcLuhan's theories the reader must not be concerned with the symbolic content of...show more content...
The television connected people in a way that created an "all at once world" where closed human systems are rare. Suddenly everyone could share the
same experience of watching images on t.v. at the same time with the same effects. To McLuhan, this meant returning to a single global village where
the electronic media re–tribalize the human race. The whole world is becoming like the small town beauty shop where rumors and gossip include
foreign ministers and movie stars. We all become busy bodies tracking everyone else's business.
As we live, we search for meaning and the process of watching television is no different. However, it is the procedure used to compute this meaning
that differs.
Watching television "has often been seen as a routine, unproblematic, passive process: the meanings of the programs are seen as given and obvious;
the viewer is seen as passively receptive and mindless." (Livingstone p.3) This would mean that the television audience does not have to do anything
but stare without thinking, and that the pictures we see do not leave any space for interpretation. However, we are a generation that has grown up
learning to read television and interpret the conventions of television in order to put a meaning to the images shown. This creates the notion of
"reading" television as natural.
Marshal McLuhan also noted this active participation and in turn, labeled the television as a cool medium. A Cool medium is a low–definition

Many professional sports leagues and teams, including Major League Soccer, National Hockey League, and US Ski Team use Under Armour as their
official supplier for performance apparel. In the summer of 2004, Under Armour became the exclusive athletic ware supplier for the entire United

Consistency tends to be the best assets that Under Armour has to their advantage. According to Plank, he states that the success of a business, "starts
with a good product," and he continued to say that after you have a good product, "use front–end hustle with back–end muscle." Due to this consistent
product that Under Armour produces, it has obtained a heavy customer loyalty. Sales and revenue speak for themselves. In 1996, Under Armour had
revenues of fifty thousand dollars compared to 200 million in 2004.
Originally, Under Armour was manufactured in a basement in the Georgetown district of NW Washington DC. Today, Corporate Under Armour and its
manufacturing plant resides on the Baltimore Inner Harbor, except for one factory store in Ellenton, FL. They currently are using a lot of air and
ground transportation to get the product to the customers. The manufacturing process that they use is called a pull system. To utilize the effectiveness
of the system Under Armour uses the assembly line process to maximize efficiency. The step bye step assembly line consists of people such as sewers,
heat sealers, cutters, markers, and spreaders. Under

Grant Proposal for the building of an aquaculture/aquaponics building on UF campus
Calvin Ensz
FAS4405
April 14, 2016
Abstract The University of Florida has been known for its research efforts across many fields. However, several fields still remain more theoretical
than hands on. Aquaculture is one of those fields that could benefit from more lab classes. Across Memorial Street from Lake Alice, next to the
Department of Cell Biology is the perfect unused spot for building a 10,000 square foot facility to allow for student education to cover a wider
range of aquaponics and aquaculture and allow for research to be performed in a field of growing importance. With a grant of $750,000 this
building would help students and researches learn and work in genetics of different commercial aquaculture species, disease issues, and the design of
systems relating to the production and care of farm raised fish and sea life to increase sustainability. This initial cost will be recouped through lab
fees and the sale of the fish and vegetables produced, reaching profitability in two years while allowing for a richer, fuller University experience for
those across the multiple fields that will benefit from this proposals acceptance.

Sexual Assault Essay examples
Sexual Assault described in technical terms is defined as any sort of sexual activity between two or more people in which one of the people
involved is involved against his or her will. (3) The description of "against his or her will" extends to varying degrees of aggression, ranging from
indirect pressure to a direct physical attack. While sexual assaults are associated with the crime of rape, it may cover assaults which would not be
considered rape. What constitutes a sexual assault is determined by the laws of the jurisdiction where the assault takes place, which vary considerably,
and are influenced by local social and cultural attitudes. Every year, an estimated 300,000 women are raped and 3.7 million are confronted with

Forms of CSA include asking or pressuring a child to engage in sexual activities (regardless of the outcome), indecent exposure of the genitals to a
child, displaying pornography to a child, actual sexual contact against a child, physical contact with the child's genitals, viewing of the child's genitalia
without physical contact, or using a child to produce child pornography. The effects ofchild sexual abuse include depression, post–traumatic stress
disorder, anxiety, propensity to re–victimization in adulthood, and physical injury to the child, among other problems. Sexual abuse by a family
member is a form of incest, and can result in more serious and long–term psychological trauma, especially in the case of parental incest. Approximately
15% to 25% of women and 5% to 15% of men were sexually abused when they were children. Most sexual abuse offenders are acquainted with their
victims; approximately 30% are relatives of the child, most often brothers, fathers, mothers, sisters and uncles or cousins; around 60% are other
acquaintances such as friends of the family, babysitters, or neighbors; strangers are the offenders in approximately 10% of child sexual abuse cases.
Studies have shown that the psychological damage is often particularly severe when sexual assault is committed by parents against children due to the
incestuous nature of the assault. Incest between a child or adolescent and a related adult has been identified as the most

Uf Ultimate Fight Night Analysis
My friend Jonny T offered his seasoned MMA opinion on three fights for tomorrow nights UFC Ultimate Fight Night installment 15. His analysis:
Nate Diaz vs. Josh Neer
Josh Neer is a tough Militech Fighter with good hands and a solid ground game. He has submitted some very dangerous fighters in Joe Stevenson
and Melvin Guillard. Unfortunately, has been decisioned by the bigger breed of fighters such as Josh Burkman. This has ultimately led to sliding
down into the Lightweight division where BJ Penn is king (if he can stay away from the buffet). Unfortunately for Josh, Nick Diaz has paved the way
for younger brother Nate (submitting Josh by Kimura in the 3rd back in 06), with using a good stand up game to force the fight to go to the ground.

The only thing in question has been the quality of opponents that hes put down. On the other side of the cage is guy who always puts on a show and
has no problem taking the fight to the opposition and brawling it out. If your not a believer, just ask Roger Huerta. Guida has good hands and solid
wrestling, but most important, he embraces thewarrior spirit. If theres a fight, hes in the middle of it, making a war out of it and letting it all hang
out. I see Guida by decision because hell be too much for Danzig. Danzig will have enough skills to go the distance, but Guida will be just too much
for the TUF winner.
Houston Alexander vs. Eric Schafer
Houston Alexander is going to obliterate Eric Schafer. This fight is going to be short and violent with Alexander pounding out the back of Schafers
head. Houston is coming off of two loses and is desperately looking to revive his career and get MMA fans buzzing about his power and viciousness
in thwarting up and comers. Schafers wrestling skills are not good enough to take Alexander down to the ground, leaving the fight on its feet. This is a
recipe for disaster for Schafer. Houston Alexander by KO in the

Modern Philosophy Reflection Paper
Have you ever thought about how the world came to be and how people developed their ideas? When you take philosophy, you learn a lot I did not
know was much as I do now. If it was not for early philosophers we would not be as advanced as we are in today's society. What I found to be
interesting is the modern philosophy. In modern philosophy, I learned about empirical and rational movements I am going to share what I found to have
influenced these movements, important philosophers and their contributions, and the importance of philosophy.
First, I am going to explain exactly rationalism and empiricism there are exactly opposites of one another. Rationalism is the belief of innate ideas,
reasons, and deductions. Rationalist do not rely on their senses like the empiricists. They believe that our five senses our just our own opinions,
there are no proven facts to back that our senses are indeed facts. One's senses differ from person to person so that is not a very clear effect way to gain
knowledge. It would be different if we used our senses like sight in addition to scientific evidence.
Empiricists believe in one's perception of human senses, induction, and no innate ideas. Using just our senses alone is not enough for one to have
enough information to prove a theory. As I learned in our lecture notes, "Sense experience is our only source of ideas. They reject the corresponding
version of the Superiority of Reason thesis. Since reason alone does not give us any knowledge, it certainly does not give us superior knowledge"
(Lana Rotellini). Empiricists believe that we learn by experience. Rationalists focus on mathematics whereas empiricists focus on physical science. The
only time that these two–theory's run into a problem is when they are examining the same topic of a particular subject (Lana Rotellini). But we could
not have rationalism without empiricism. Our method of research and thought have become so developed since the earliest of time. Just like the earth
is evolving so are humans and their ability to research.
Next, two men known by the names of Frances Bacon and Thomas Hobbs were early philosophers for the modern era and empiricists. Both these men
took the science approach philosophy. Francis

A CRITICAL ANALYSIS OF THE IMPLEMENTATION OF LEAN PRINCIPLES IN THE SERVICE INDUSTRY The operational systems of
organizations can be viewed as open systems, which interact with their respective environments on a continuous basis. In this context, these systems
comprise synergetic and interdependent subsystems of input, process and output with the main objective of these systems being to efficiently and
effectively deliver goods and/or services to their demanding customers (Yasin and Wafa, 2002). Confronting the challenges of global competition,
companies have to reduce costs, improve quality, and meet their customers' ever–changing needs (Canel et al., 2000). Even though lean techniques
were developed for the manufacturing firms and...show more content...
However, Chase et al (1998) identified lean themes as total visibility; respect for people; flexibility; continuous improvement (kaizen);
synchronisation and balance; responsibility for the environment and a holistic approach. These two are similar as one must have respect for people
while specifying value by putting their needs into consideration, the value stream needs to be identified and made to flow continuously and this can
be achieved through synchronisation and balancing, the pull system depicts the flexibility approach and lastly both emphasize continuous
improvement. The lean principles can be applied to service operations, as service operations are "organized systems of production processes" with the
same potential for improvement through implementation of lean precepts as manufacturing operations (Benson, 1986 in Duclos et al., 1995).
Manufacturing employ processes that add value to the inputs used in creating final products, which is in a way similar to services (Canel et al.,
2000). Silvestro et al. (1993) classified service processes into three major headings of professional, service shop and mass. These three majors
headings are further classified into six different dimensions of equipment/people focus as the main element of the service delivery is provided by
equipment or people; customer contact time per transaction; the

UF Gainesville Financial Capital Case Study

  • 1. UF Gainesville Financial Capital Case Study With everything that the UF Gainesville campus has to offer, the foundation of its production relies in financial capital. Financial capital refers to all assets necessary for a company to provide it's good and services. ––––– Anything that has a money value and is used for future revenue can be considered financial capital as well. This type of capital is sometimes mistaken for economic capital, which its not. Economic capital focuses on coverage of possible losses from unexpected risk. ––––The University of Florida receives a lot of its assets from the UF Alumni Association (UFAA). The funds that were used to build many of UF's facilities have come from Alumni members or long–term employees. Some of the school's facilities would not be Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 2. Water Purification Safe drinking water is essential to every living being. Access to safe drinking water has improved over the past years, but still approximately one billion people are deprived of safe and clean water. Over 2.5 billion people have no access to adequate sanitation. A report, issued in November 2009, suggests that by 2030, in some developing regions of the world, water demand will exceed supply by 50% and approximately 70% of the fresh water used by humans goes to agriculture. People are using more and more materials that are polluting the water sources that one drinks from. In nine of the last ten years, large blue–green algae blooms have appeared on the northern part of Lake Winnipeg. These are caused by excess phosphorus...show more content... Pure Mineral water suppliers (Bottled Water) Natural mineral water is characterized by its chemical and microbiological composition, which distinguishes it from drinking water, and may not be treated in any way that alters these properties. People are more health conscious and so, concerned about the rising water pollution issues, demanding clean drinking water. Here enters the entrepreneurs with a new innovation of bottled water. A little time ago, there were limited of choices for bottled water available, but consumers today have more than 3,000 brands in the market to choose from, with Pakistan consisting of around 30 companies and India around 50 companies that are directly involved in the bottled water business. Now these bottled mineral waters are widely accepted in offices, restaurants, railway stations, airport, bus stands, hospitals, and to some extent even in house–holds as well. So there is good scope for establishing the units for processing and bottling plain and mineralized drinking water in countries where a potential market is available. Some people drink bottled water as an alternative to other beverages while others drink it because they prefer its taste or think it is safer than normal tap or boiled water. Popular and safe bottled water brands vary from Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 3. Individualism On Children In United States, many people have believed that raising children is a private decision according to individual selection. This view can be explained through the belief of "individualism"– an ideology that notes individuals are responsible for their life. This ideology has been embedded in our society and it shapes the social policies from the past. Based on this ideology, United States not only respects individual's choice, but also justifies the absence of social programs and other methods to share the costs of caretaking children with the society, while many industrialized countries share the costs with society. Other developed countries that recognize the future contributions of children share the cots for raising children to ease the challenges Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 4. Tenacity: The True Factor Of War Tenacity: The True Factor of War One of the most notable Allied losses of World War One was the Gallipoli Campaign. The campaign to took place through 1915 and 1916, it's the goal was to capture the Dardanelle Straits in order to free the Russian naval forces from the Black Sea. Although the Gallipoli Campaign failure was the result of many different factors, one could argue that the primary reason the Allies were defeated was based on the fact that they lost the will to fight. The Allied forces had given up hope of winning the war, whereas the Ottoman forces never gave up fighting for their homeland thus they had a mental superiority over their Allied counterparts. The Allied forces had been fighting for well over a year, and they hoped Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 5. My Future Essay My future is something I often think about. Most often, the questions that arise include the common doubts of "Am I doing this right?", or even the occasional midnight philosophical questions such as "Why are we here?", and so on. For the purpose of this essay, I will focus on the factors that have allowed me to reach this point in my life and how these factors influenced and continue to influence me, in order to provide me with a visualization of my future. Factors that contributed to my current life choices include the desperate want to be something greater, as well as to experience the world in ways some could only dream of. I study hard, allowing for me to have the possibility of an early graduation. I dream big, allowing me with the imagination to draw up plans for myself and my future. I work hard, allowing me the strength and vision to execute my plans for the future. The way that I was raised has greatly benefited me. My parents have taught me that anything and everything is possible as long as you work hard for it despite the what others may tell you or even if the odds are against you. Another factor that led to my current life, is the amount of time I allow myself to think about my plans and refine them. This is extremely important because, without a solid, flexible, long–term plan, you could get lost in dreaming about the future, and end up not accomplishing anything. Hence, many aspects of my life have been planned out with not one or two possible alternatives Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 6. Essay on The Future of Education The Future of Education As teachers our primary concern should be the students and what type of learning environment will be best suited to meet their needs. There are many different opinions as top what the most effective or appropriate curriculum is for the students. I do not believe there is any one philosophy that can provide the ideal curriculum for each and every student. Just as there are numerous methods of teaching, there are also numerous ways to learn. It is essential that we keep this in mind as we help the students achieve their goals and discover their talents. Above all we must encourage the students to try new things and do what we can to prevent limiting them in any way. I do not feel that I...show more content... I think that many of the schools today merely try to prepare the students to move on to college and by doing so exclude the students who are gifted with other abilities that are equally important and useful in society, even though those talents may not necessarily be something that can be refined through a traditional four year college. As a future teacher, I very strongly believe that students need to be shown practical applications of the concepts they are taught. For myself this is especially notable in mathematical applications. As teachers we need to not just show how to work through a problem: we need to show why it works and what it is useful for. Without something to apply the information to math is nothing more than a stream of numbers and formulas that students memorize for a specific test and then quickly forget. By demonstrating specific examples of applications the students will be able to retain some of the information easier and then adapt what they learn to other problems they encounter in the future. Upon graduation I hope to begin teaching Math at the middle school or high school level. Geometry, Trigonometry, and Algebra would be my first choices of classes I would like to teach, but I feel I would enjoy teaching any of the other forms of math. I would prefer to teach in a rural area since that is the Get more content on HelpWriting.net

But this year, his 8–year–old daughter, Eliza Ashby, said she was going to try too. Her older sister, Rose Ashby, was in disbelief that her sister would participate in cricket spitting. "You're really gonna spit a cricket?" said Ashby's 10–year–old daughter, Rose Ashby. "Yahhh!" Eliza said. Eliza did in fact participate in the cricket spitting. Baldwin said entomology is a found major, people rarely pick it before they come to college. BugFest is a way to gain visibility for the program and explain what entomologists do and their importance. It started with its target audience being high school students and students from UF and Santa Fe College. "Entomology impacts everybody, from preserving the food that we eat, to the clothes that we wear, to human health to animal health," she said. It is important to use the opportunity of BugFest to explain that. The event used to be on a Thursday night, but so many people would come it was moved to Saturday, two years ago. While attending UF, my goal is to conduct research in infectious diseases, focusing on how to reduce the frequency of their acquisition and transmission. • 9. Who Is Marshal Mcluhan McLuhan Author and social theorist Tom Wolfe once commented on Canadian professor Marshal McLuhan's mantra, "the medium is the message" saying: The new technologies...radically alter the entire way people use their five senses, the way they react to things, and therefore, their entire lives and the entire society. It doesn't matter what the content of a medium like t.v. is... 20 hours a day of sadistic cowboys caving in peoples teeth or... Pablo Casals droning away on his cello. How is it that violence and the arts are effective in the same manner? Wouldn't the content be the mostimportant factor in analyzing a television program? The television connected people in a way that created an "all at once world" where closed human systems are rare. Suddenly everyone could share the same experience of watching images on t.v. at the same time with the same effects. To McLuhan, this meant returning to a single global village where the electronic media re–tribalize the human race. The whole world is becoming like the small town beauty shop where rumors and gossip include foreign ministers and movie stars. We all become busy bodies tracking everyone else's business. As we live, we search for meaning and the process of watching television is no different. However, it is the procedure used to compute this meaning that differs. Watching television "has often been seen as a routine, unproblematic, passive process: the meanings of the programs are seen as given and obvious; the viewer is seen as passively receptive and mindless." (Livingstone p.3) This would mean that the television audience does not have to do anything but stare without thinking, and that the pictures we see do not leave any space for interpretation. However, we are a generation that has grown up learning to read television and interpret the conventions of television in order to put a meaning to the images shown. This creates the notion of "reading" television as natural. Marshal McLuhan also noted this active participation and in turn, labeled the television as a cool medium. A Cool medium is a low–definition

Grant Proposal for the building of an aquaculture/aquaponics building on UF campus Calvin Ensz FAS4405 April 14, 2016 Abstract The University of Florida has been known for its research efforts across many fields. However, several fields still remain more theoretical than hands on. Aquaculture is one of those fields that could benefit from more lab classes. Across Memorial Street from Lake Alice, next to the Department of Cell Biology is the perfect unused spot for building a 10,000 square foot facility to allow for student education to cover a wider range of aquaponics and aquaculture and allow for research to be performed in a field of growing importance. With a grant of $750,000 this building would help students and researches learn and work in genetics of different commercial aquaculture species, disease issues, and the design of systems relating to the production and care of farm raised fish and sea life to increase sustainability. This initial cost will be recouped through lab fees and the sale of the fish and vegetables produced, reaching profitability in two years while allowing for a richer, fuller University experience for those across the multiple fields that will benefit from this proposals acceptance. His analysis: Nate Diaz vs. Josh Neer Josh Neer is a tough Militech Fighter with good hands and a solid ground game. He has submitted some very dangerous fighters in Joe Stevenson and Melvin Guillard. Unfortunately, has been decisioned by the bigger breed of fighters such as Josh Burkman. This has ultimately led to sliding down into the Lightweight division where BJ Penn is king (if he can stay away from the buffet). • 16. Modern Philosophy Reflection Paper Have you ever thought about how the world came to be and how people developed their ideas? When you take philosophy, you learn a lot I did not know was much as I do now. If it was not for early philosophers we would not be as advanced as we are in today's society. What I found to be interesting is the modern philosophy. In modern philosophy, I learned about empirical and rational movements I am going to share what I found to have influenced these movements, important philosophers and their contributions, and the importance of philosophy. First, I am going to explain exactly rationalism and empiricism there are exactly opposites of one another. Rationalism is the belief of innate ideas, reasons, and deductions. Rationalist do not rely on their senses like the empiricists. They believe that our five senses our just our own opinions, there are no proven facts to back that our senses are indeed facts. One's senses differ from person to person so that is not a very clear effect way to gain knowledge. It would be different if we used our senses like sight in addition to scientific evidence. Empiricists believe in one's perception of human senses, induction, and no innate ideas. Using just our senses alone is not enough for one to have enough information to prove a theory. As I learned in our lecture notes, "Sense experience is our only source of ideas. They reject the corresponding version of the Superiority of Reason thesis. Since reason alone does not give us any knowledge, it certainly does not give us superior knowledge" (Lana Rotellini). Empiricists believe that we learn by experience. Rationalists focus on mathematics whereas empiricists focus on physical science. The only time that these two–theory's run into a problem is when they are examining the same topic of a particular subject (Lana Rotellini). But we could not have rationalism without empiricism. Our method of research and thought have become so developed since the earliest of time. Just like the earth is evolving so are humans and their ability to research. Next, two men known by the names of Frances Bacon and Thomas Hobbs were early philosophers for the modern era and empiricists. Both these men took the science approach philosophy. A CRITICAL ANALYSIS OF THE IMPLEMENTATION OF LEAN PRINCIPLES IN THE SERVICE INDUSTRY The operational systems of organizations can be viewed as open systems, which interact with their respective environments on a continuous basis. In this context, these systems comprise synergetic and interdependent subsystems of input, process and output with the main objective of these systems being to efficiently and effectively deliver goods and/or services to their demanding customers (Yasin and Wafa, 2002). Confronting the challenges of global competition, companies have to reduce costs, improve quality, and meet their customers' ever–changing needs (Canel et al., 2000). Even though lean techniques were developed for the manufacturing firms and...show more content... However, Chase et al (1998) identified lean themes as total visibility; respect for people; flexibility; continuous improvement (kaizen); synchronisation and balance; responsibility for the environment and a holistic approach. These two are similar as one must have respect for people while specifying value by putting their needs into consideration, the value stream needs to be identified and made to flow continuously and this can be achieved through synchronisation and balancing, the pull system depicts the flexibility approach and lastly both emphasize continuous improvement. The lean principles can be applied to service operations, as service operations are "organized systems of production processes" with the same potential for improvement through implementation of lean precepts as manufacturing operations (Benson, 1986 in Duclos et al., 1995). Manufacturing employ processes that add value to the inputs used in creating final products, which is in a way similar to services (Canel et al., 2000). Silvestro et al. (1993) classified service processes into three major headings of professional, service shop and mass. These three majors headings are further classified into six different dimensions of equipment/people focus as the main element of the service delivery is provided by equipment or people; customer contact time per transaction; the Get more content on HelpWriting.net
