Botanical Garden
I have been in the most famous Botanical Garden with my friends or my family before. Indeed, the Penang Botanic Garden gave us a relaxation
place for doing physical exercises. The garden is clean, safe and comfortable for jogging. Mostly I go there every morning for walking up and
down just like the locals do, is the best relaxation at 8am. I miss that fresh morning air, too. Actually the gate is open until after 8pm and there are
also some fruits and drinks stalls, selling different variety of fresh tropical fruits in front of the main entrance. The local folks who after doing
exercises will always go there and buy some drinks or fruits to release their thirst. What an enjoyable day! When I was there at the first time, I was so

INTRODUCTION In gardening, a terrace is an element where a raised flat paved or graveled section overlooks a prospect. A raised terrace keeps a
house dry and provides a transition between the hard materials of the architecture and softer ones of the garden. We have a very long tradition of
gardening and landscaping. Our literatures and mythologies are full of references to these. Man always thought of natural landscape as his ideal
habitat. Adam originally lived in the Garden of Eden. Most of the world mythologies place that the men of primitive people build their abodes
considering themselves as part of landscape. Man's fascination for landscaping never decrease. The Egyptians had elaborate gardens with many types

NEED OF TERRACE GARDEN Terrace gardens are becoming a common feature in today's urban environment. The phenomenon of landscaping on
the terraces and Terrace tops has evolved due to excessive exploitation of the urban land. Bricks, concrete and asphalt have replaced greenery on
horizontal as well as vertical planes. Skyscrapers, parking areas and network of roads have acquired a major of urban land. The modern means of
transport compels us to create amenities such as bus– stands, railway stations and airports which have pushed away the vegetation and natural green
spaces from acres of urban land. In such congested environment, Terrace tops and terrace of buildings provides a valuable potential source of
outdoor space accessible to users of buildings. Behind the idea of terrace gardens and Terrace top landscapes is an urge to bring back greenery,
which is pushed away from urban areas. These are necessarily green areas created on the concrete slabs. Their need has increased with designing of
high– rise buildings which deprive their occupants of any visual contact with nature. Terrace gardens bring back this missing link between the man and
nature, though on moderate scale. Terrace gardens improve the quality of view from the surrounding higher buildings and can be specifically designed
to be viewed from above. In cities around the world, terrace gardens are commonly created at three different levels, which are:i.

College Admissions Essay: Why I Hate Gardening
I hate gardening. I hate my clumsy fingers yanking out gentle roots or my waddling feet stepping on the precious flower petals. Gardening is not
my cup of tea, but my mom loves it. She is always out in the sunshine, stroking on her roses, her chrysanthemums, and her grandeur section of
herbs. Seeing my mom works hard on feeding each plant with fertilizer and water, I cannot do anything but feel helpless. My uncoordinated body
does not allow me to be gentle and meticulous on tiny living species. I am no petite, delicate person; I like power tools, black grease, and
mechanisms. Only if my mechanical skills could grow flower... An idea suddenly sparked. I looked up some compost planting systems. They are
expensive! Three hundred, four hundreds dollars are ridiculous prices for a plastic bucket. I headed straight to Home Depot with twenty bucks on hand
and a plan in mind; I am building my own garden tower system....show more content...

into pieces. After three days and five hundred and twenty–eight holes, I have completed the central piece of the system. The outer basket requires less
effort and fewer holes to be drilled. I switched my drill bit into a hole saw to take out larger holes, where the plant will grow. I positioned the center
pipe inside the basket and poured the mixture of soil in between. To complete the work, I sprinkled some of my helpers– earthworms –to help digest
the veggie waste inside the pipe and fertilize the soil. Another project has been

Gardening And The Life Cycle Of A Plant
I did my project with Taylor McNeil and we decided to focus our world on gardening. When we were assigned this project, we brainstormed some
different ideas that our world could revolve around. The first idea that we had was the season of Fall. We thought that it would be a great idea to
revolve our world around fall because it was the season that we are currently in but then we decided to do something different. Some of our other
ideas included birthdays, recycling, and gardens. We then narrowed it down between two choices, gardening and recycling. Both of us are passionate
about our environment and so these topics were extremely intriguing. We then decided that we were the most interested in gardening and selected it
to be our world. Gardening is a pretty broad topic so we focussed more on the reason behind gardening and the life cycle of a plant. When looking at all
the Common Core Standards there were many standards that could be incorporated into a lesson about gardening, so many that we chose six of them.
The first one we chose was CCSS.ELA–LITERACY.RL.2.1. In this standard, students would ask and answer questions demonstrating that they
understand the text. A way to incorporate this into a classroom would be to ask students questions, about gardening and plants, before you read aloud a
book about gardens to them. Instead of having the students answer the questions right away, have them think about these questions while you read
aloud the book. After you finish reading

Types And Reasons For Gardening
Gardening can be categorized as many things from a hobby to a form of sustainable living, and even a profession. There are many types and reasons
to garden, and the list of benefits is lengthy. Many people have stepped away from the art of gardening in pursuit of other hobbies, because it can be
difficult, and time consuming, but in the busy world today it is important to find ways to keep feet on the ground and stay rooted: accomplishing this
task can be done in the garden, and the added benefits to cost, health, and the environment are at least worthy of everyone's consideration, if not
implementation. Gardening is sometimes thought of as something from times bygone. Some people view the practice as dated and imaging grandmas

Gardens of mixed color and texture are beautiful to look at and can often be cut and arranged for indoor enjoyment. Herbs can be grown in the
garden to add seasoning and flavor to food dishes, and many of them also have natural medicinal applications, that are thought to be safer than
using lab engineered medicines. Growing an herb garden is fairly easy for beginners and can be done in areas without a lot of space, because most
herb varieties flourish in post, or planted in the ground. Herbs often yield large harvests and can be used fresh or be dried and preserved for later use.
The scents that can be produced from gardening are amazing. Lilacs and Lavender are the show–offs in the scent department, but there are large
varieties of scented plants and herbs. Stepping outdoors to a soft breeze blowing with hints of sweet honeysuckle or savory sage are yet another
perk of having your own gardens. Perhaps the biggest perk comes during harvest time, which can last for several months depending on the varieties
of plans you choose to grow. Many gardens contain vegetables and fruits which are wonderful to enjoy in the peak of their season, or to preserve to
eat during cold months and add variety to the table. Food gardening can particularly be gratifying and an excellent source of fresh produce (Darnton).
Out of all the types of gardening if I could only persuade someone to take up one, I would pick vegetable gardening. It is

Gardening For Beginners : Gardening
GARDENING FOR BEGINNERS
Gardening is a pastime activity of cultivating a piece of land either with fruits, vegetables, herbs or flowers to become a garden.
I love gardening! Do you love gardening too? There are several reasons why I love gardening. One is the fact that I readily have a place to relax,
unwind and enjoy a bit of time in solace with nature and revel in its beauty. That means, I do not have to spend hundreds of dollars on vacations with
my family.
Depending on what is planted in the garden, a vegetable garden is a source of home grown fresh vegetables. The same apply to a fruit or herbal garden.

Every garden requires constant weeding, pruning and watering. Your garden shouldn't be far from you to get adequate maintenance.
You must put into consideration the climatic condition of your location. How much sun does the location for the garden get? The amount of sun will
influence the type of plant for the garden. Usually, vegetables require six to eight hours sun a day to do very well.
You must ensure the location has proper drainage system as most plants do not grow well in waterlogged areas. Making rigs to have an elevated
platform is good for vegetable, herb and spice gardens.
The soil type that is best for a garden location is loamy soil. However, any soil can be improved upon to be fertile for a garden. Toxic soil should be
totally avoided. Areas that have been leached with dangerous chemicals such as oil and lead paint are not good for any garden type.
How to Choose What Type of Garden Is Best For You
TYPES OF GARDEN
The land available to you and the climate of your region can determine the type of garden to cultivate. There are different types of garden suited for
different locations and for different purposes. Also, there are gardeners who have fervor for growing explicit plants. While there are others whose aim
is seeking to enhance their environment, there are those who simply enjoy a particular gardening style. However, it is important that gardeners make
creative use of limited space at their deposal.

I set off on a sunny Saturday morning with my dad to purchase 5 pots and a pack of wildflower seeds at my local garden store. The smell of fresh
and spring like air lifted me up a little as I strolled through the aisles. With my dad's experience of gardening, I brought him along to assist me and tell
me what is useful. After gathering all the necessary materials like soil, seeds, and pots I headed over to the cash register. I gave the cashier a $20 that I
made babysitting the day before.
I arrived home and started my assigned task. I had three weeks to finish my english project and I wanted to get started as soon as possible. A gentle
breeze picked up as I set up my materials on my back porch. I meticulously laid out the 5 pots, bag of fertile soil, flower seeds, and a shovel. Unsure of
where to begin, I called for my dad who was working in the front of the house. Ever since we build our house in 2011, he has landscaped and built a
garden every spring and summer. I used to help him pull weeds out of the garden and plant tomatoes in big huge painters buckets from Home Depot
that I painted green. Even my little brother and mom would come out and work in the garden and around the yard. The sun would beat down on us,
the birds sung songs, and my dog would be leashed up out back sunbathing in the sun while we worked.
My dad finally came around back and I asked him, "what do I do first again?" He began to explain that all I need to do is put the soil in the pots and

According to Saldivar–Tanaka and Krasny, Researchers at Cornell University who specialize in natural science andsustainability education in urban
and other settings in the US and internationally, records: "Currently, NYC has one of the most activecommunity gardening movements in the US, wit
over 14,000 gardeners working in somewhere between 700 and 1000 gardens, and over 15 non–profit organizations and government agencies working
in support of the gardens" (Neighborhood Open Space Coalition, 2002).
Some are approaching this by building "roof gardens" where city dwellers plant gardens on the roof of building complexes for produce or just hobby.
Regardless of what they do with these gardens, they improve air quality by reducing carbon dioxide, which increases greenhouse gases that are
destroying our ozone layer. Rooftop vegetation uses carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gases like ozone for respiration, therefore reducing the
negative effects of air pollution in urban communities. Then there is also the "heat island" effect, where the stone, concrete buildings found in cities
transport heat all around, heightening the average temperature. As a solution, rooftop gardens can provide shade for the massive amount of heat and
while doing so transpiring moisture into the air (Advantage Environment).
With such a large population, it would seem impossible to find land to accommodate these "green"

Essay about Japanese Gardens
Japanese Gardens
The role of gardens play a much more important role in Japan than here in the United States. This is due primarily to the fact the Japanese garden
embodies native values, cultural beliefs and religious principles. Perhaps this is why there is no one prototype for the Japanese garden, just as there is
no one native philosophy or aesthetic. In this way, similar to other forms of Japanese art, landscape design is constantly evolving due to exposure to
outside influences, mainly Chinese, that effect not only changing aesthetic tastes but also the values of patrons. In observing a Japanese garden, it is
important to remember that the line between the garden and the landscape that surrounds it is not separate. Instead,...show more content...
The architecture "norm" for aristocratic homes was in the Shinden–zurkuri style, "which was clearly based on the principle that the individual parts of
the building should be merged as much as possible into the garden" (Yoshida, p.12). The main building, named the Shinden, represented the area
reserved for the master himself, and always opened up to the south side of the garden. There were corridors, or tai–no–ya, connecting the Shinden to
the rest of the buildings in the complex. There corridors created an enclosure which is where a lake would be placed and where the stroll garden was
erected.
Kinkakuji, also known as the Golden Pavilion (1394), serves as an example of this Shinden type. The site in northern Kyoto was developed as a large
retirement estate by Ashikaga Yoshimitsu (1358–1409) beginning in 1394. The pavilion itself was sited the edge of a sprawling palace complex that no
longer exists today. This was intended as proof that the warrior shogunate could contribute to the cultural and aesthetic life of the land to an extent
equal to that of the imperial aristocracy. It has been recorded that the actual emperor of Japan visited Kinkakuji in 1408, the first time an emperor had
ever stayed with a person that was not a member of the imperial court. The shogun

Home vegetable gardening is done for a variety of reasons by a number of people. One of the reasons why people grow vegetable gardens is due to
the nation's unhealthy eating habits. Another reason is the horrible state of the economy that the nation is currently experiencing. People have had to
adjust to a different way of living by growing gardens which helps with both unhealthy eating habits and the failing economy. Growing their own
gardens also saves people money on their grocery bills. Also people are growing gardens as a means of exercise and for the simple reason of the

when money was tight. The vegetables from these gardens were used for the families and also to feed the hungry who were not able to do
gardening and who could not afford to buy their own food. This was a great help to people because of the fact that they were able to eat fresh
vegetables at a minimum cost and they were all much healthier for it. Ms. Obama planted a garden on the White House lawn to educate children
about growing healthy food for their consumption without all the chemicals for fertilizer. Ms. Obama said, "Gardens can be used to educate
children about healthful, locally grown fruit and vegetables at a time when obesity and diabetes have become a national concern". What Ms.

The Benefits Of Community Gardening
Another aspect of community gardening, is regarding those who participate in it. Community gardens can be seen in many cities, with the community
coming together to grow produce and relationships along the way. However, it is becoming a growing trend to start this idea at a younger scale. Many
schools across North America have started implementing a garden into their after–school or extracurricular programs. By introducing gardening to
children at a young age allows for them to take in many of the benefits that come from gardening, and encouraging new ways of engagement. Gardening
provides many hands–on activities for children, including designing, planting, and harvesting the food (Yost, 2009). Many studies have shown that
children who take care of a garden, or live near one, are more likely to show an interest in gardening as they grow up and develop a strong relationship
with gardens and trees (Lohr, 2005).
In California, school gardens have become very popular and are continuously promoting them through the State's Education Department. An example of
one of the schools in the state is Le Conte Elementary School, which not only has flowers and vegetables, but also livestock, like goats and chickens.
The science curriculum at the school is very inclusive with gardening activities, such as propagation, transplanting, and composting (Ferris, 2001).
There have been many studies on the effects of school gardens on children. They have shown that students who participated in a

As the sun slowly peaked out of the horizon in Riverside, California, the scorching sun and unbearable heat come along with it. Covering this dry city,
Riverside fell into a moist, humid atmosphere. Besides this, the day was bright and early for a hike up to the 40–acres University of California,

Loving to Grow a Garden in My Backyard Essay
Those who do not have a large yard for gardening, do not have to feel left out. You can still grow many of your favorite vegetables. Many gardeners
have a lot of luck with container gardening. The following tips are designed to teach you how to practice vegetable container gardening.
When choosing your planting vessels, the two most important things to keep in mind, is size and drainage. That being said, you can find a variety of
cute, unique pots for planting. As long as you can drill some drainage holes into the object, it can be a planter. You can also place inexpensive,
traditional planters, inside something pretty to dress up your yard.

Container gardening soil is made to retain more of the water you provide. Add some fertilizer to the mix before planting.
Choose a sunny location for your container garden. Most vegetables will need at least 6 hours of full sunlight per day. Some plants, such as tomatoes,
will enjoy as much sun as you can provide. If you have an area with less sun, reserve that space for herbs. They can usually get by on a little less sun.
One of the nice benefits of container gardening, is the fact that you are left with very little weeding. However, this is not to say that you will never
find a weed. There will be times when weeds find their way into your container. Weeds are more noticeable and easier to control in this type of
gardening. Be vigilant and pull out any weeds that you see as soon as you notice it. Plants are more easily crowded out when they are in containers.
You never want to allow weeds to take nutrients away from your plants.
Water is always an important part of gardening. It is even more so with container gardening. Do not be surprised to find that you are having to water
daily during hot, dry weather. You may be able to skip a day or more days with a traditional garden. However, since containers are smaller and have
less dirt to hold in the water, they dry out much faster.
Tomatoes, cucumbers, green beans, squash, carrots, and potatoes are

Gardening as a Therapeutic Intervention Essay
Gardening as a therapeutic intervention in mental health

ABSTRACT

This process is linked with gardening activities and in fact the authors use the growth of a seedling as a metaphor for a person's own development.
Phenomenon of hope
One of the key factors associated with recovery is the phenomenon of hope. This is perhaps defined best by Miller (1992), who suggested it is the
'anticipation of a continued good state, or a release from a perceived entrapment. The anticipation may or may not be founded on concrete real world
evidence. Hope is an anticipation of a future which is good and which is based upon mutuality, a sense of personal competence, coping ability,
psychological well–being, purpose and meaning in life, as well as a sense of "the possible".'
There appears to be an intrinsic relationship between gardening and hope. The very action of planting a seed in the soil requires hope; by encouraging
and in some senses almost imposing a sense of hope on to someone, a personal journey may begin.
It could be argued that many people in secure mental health environments have very little hope, little to hope for and for whom little is hoped.
Encouraging these people to participate in activities essentially based on the practice of hope may well be highly therapeutic.
There are many reasons to conclude that gardening may be therapeutic – there is evidence for physical, cognitive and social benefits. However, there
may be something in gardening associated with providing hope for those who may have little else to

Botanical Garden

  • 1. Botanical Garden I have been in the most famous Botanical Garden with my friends or my family before. Indeed, the Penang Botanic Garden gave us a relaxation place for doing physical exercises. The garden is clean, safe and comfortable for jogging. Mostly I go there every morning for walking up and down just like the locals do, is the best relaxation at 8am. I miss that fresh morning air, too. Actually the gate is open until after 8pm and there are also some fruits and drinks stalls, selling different variety of fresh tropical fruits in front of the main entrance. The local folks who after doing exercises will always go there and buy some drinks or fruits to release their thirst. What an enjoyable day! When I was there at the first time, I was so ...show more content... There is also the Pinang Palm that lent its name to the island of Penang, and the Black Lily with its unique purplish–black coloured flowers. The Candle Tree, the endemic Slipper Orchid and the ginger, can also be found in the gardens. A botanic garden is a garden, consisting of a variety of plants from different parts of the world. Each plant has its own unique name. Having a wide variety of plants in one place is appealing, but this type of garden can be costly and upkeep of the garden can become a full–time job, time–consuming is a lot. The disadvantages of planting those flora are the botanic gardens need lots of energy for the electrical equipment compare to normal house gardens. Special equipment is used to neutralize the soil for the different species and give the plants their required nutrients. The major disadvantages to a botanic gardens is the cost. It's flora has to be watered through an irrigation system, to ensure the plants are at optimal health. The set–up cost for these gardens is also expensive. Most of the time, a floral decorator is called in to design the garden. Botanic gardens usually have groups of different plants from the same species in one area. Having different exotic flowers and plants are also costly. The garden requires daily upkeep. After that, the plants within the botanic garden share the same soil and are housed in close proximity of each other. This leads to increased chances of the plants spreading disease. • 2. terrace garden INTRODUCTION In gardening, a terrace is an element where a raised flat paved or graveled section overlooks a prospect. A raised terrace keeps a house dry and provides a transition between the hard materials of the architecture and softer ones of the garden. We have a very long tradition of gardening and landscaping. Our literatures and mythologies are full of references to these. Man always thought of natural landscape as his ideal habitat. Adam originally lived in the Garden of Eden. Most of the world mythologies place that the men of primitive people build their abodes considering themselves as part of landscape. Man's fascination for landscaping never decrease. The Egyptians had elaborate gardens with many types ...show more content... NEED OF TERRACE GARDEN Terrace gardens are becoming a common feature in today's urban environment. The phenomenon of landscaping on the terraces and Terrace tops has evolved due to excessive exploitation of the urban land. Bricks, concrete and asphalt have replaced greenery on horizontal as well as vertical planes. Skyscrapers, parking areas and network of roads have acquired a major of urban land. The modern means of transport compels us to create amenities such as bus– stands, railway stations and airports which have pushed away the vegetation and natural green spaces from acres of urban land. In such congested environment, Terrace tops and terrace of buildings provides a valuable potential source of outdoor space accessible to users of buildings. Behind the idea of terrace gardens and Terrace top landscapes is an urge to bring back greenery, which is pushed away from urban areas. These are necessarily green areas created on the concrete slabs. Their need has increased with designing of high– rise buildings which deprive their occupants of any visual contact with nature. Terrace gardens bring back this missing link between the man and nature, though on moderate scale. Terrace gardens improve the quality of view from the surrounding higher buildings and can be specifically designed to be viewed from above. In cities around the world, terrace gardens are commonly created at three different levels, which are:i. Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 3. College Admissions Essay: Why I Hate Gardening I hate gardening. I hate my clumsy fingers yanking out gentle roots or my waddling feet stepping on the precious flower petals. Gardening is not my cup of tea, but my mom loves it. She is always out in the sunshine, stroking on her roses, her chrysanthemums, and her grandeur section of herbs. Seeing my mom works hard on feeding each plant with fertilizer and water, I cannot do anything but feel helpless. My uncoordinated body does not allow me to be gentle and meticulous on tiny living species. I am no petite, delicate person; I like power tools, black grease, and mechanisms. Only if my mechanical skills could grow flower... An idea suddenly sparked. I looked up some compost planting systems. They are expensive! Three hundred, four hundreds dollars are ridiculous prices for a plastic bucket. I headed straight to Home Depot with twenty bucks on hand and a plan in mind; I am building my own garden tower system....show more content... One by one aligned themselves in a diagonal pattern. The arrangement of the holes is very crucial: if they are all in a straight line, the pipe will break into pieces. After three days and five hundred and twenty–eight holes, I have completed the central piece of the system. The outer basket requires less effort and fewer holes to be drilled. I switched my drill bit into a hole saw to take out larger holes, where the plant will grow. I positioned the center pipe inside the basket and poured the mixture of soil in between. To complete the work, I sprinkled some of my helpers– earthworms –to help digest the veggie waste inside the pipe and fertilize the soil. Another project has been Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 4. Gardening And The Life Cycle Of A Plant I did my project with Taylor McNeil and we decided to focus our world on gardening. When we were assigned this project, we brainstormed some different ideas that our world could revolve around. The first idea that we had was the season of Fall. We thought that it would be a great idea to revolve our world around fall because it was the season that we are currently in but then we decided to do something different. Some of our other ideas included birthdays, recycling, and gardens. We then narrowed it down between two choices, gardening and recycling. Both of us are passionate about our environment and so these topics were extremely intriguing. We then decided that we were the most interested in gardening and selected it to be our world. Gardening is a pretty broad topic so we focussed more on the reason behind gardening and the life cycle of a plant. When looking at all the Common Core Standards there were many standards that could be incorporated into a lesson about gardening, so many that we chose six of them. The first one we chose was CCSS.ELA–LITERACY.RL.2.1. In this standard, students would ask and answer questions demonstrating that they understand the text. A way to incorporate this into a classroom would be to ask students questions, about gardening and plants, before you read aloud a book about gardens to them. Instead of having the students answer the questions right away, have them think about these questions while you read aloud the book. After you finish reading Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 5. Types And Reasons For Gardening Gardening can be categorized as many things from a hobby to a form of sustainable living, and even a profession. There are many types and reasons to garden, and the list of benefits is lengthy. Many people have stepped away from the art of gardening in pursuit of other hobbies, because it can be difficult, and time consuming, but in the busy world today it is important to find ways to keep feet on the ground and stay rooted: accomplishing this task can be done in the garden, and the added benefits to cost, health, and the environment are at least worthy of everyone's consideration, if not implementation. Gardening is sometimes thought of as something from times bygone. Some people view the practice as dated and imaging grandmas ...show more content... Gardens of mixed color and texture are beautiful to look at and can often be cut and arranged for indoor enjoyment. Herbs can be grown in the garden to add seasoning and flavor to food dishes, and many of them also have natural medicinal applications, that are thought to be safer than using lab engineered medicines. Growing an herb garden is fairly easy for beginners and can be done in areas without a lot of space, because most herb varieties flourish in post, or planted in the ground. Herbs often yield large harvests and can be used fresh or be dried and preserved for later use. The scents that can be produced from gardening are amazing. Lilacs and Lavender are the show–offs in the scent department, but there are large varieties of scented plants and herbs. Stepping outdoors to a soft breeze blowing with hints of sweet honeysuckle or savory sage are yet another perk of having your own gardens. Perhaps the biggest perk comes during harvest time, which can last for several months depending on the varieties of plans you choose to grow. Many gardens contain vegetables and fruits which are wonderful to enjoy in the peak of their season, or to preserve to eat during cold months and add variety to the table. Food gardening can particularly be gratifying and an excellent source of fresh produce (Darnton). Out of all the types of gardening if I could only persuade someone to take up one, I would pick vegetable gardening. It is Get more content on HelpWriting.net

The thin leaves of the corn plants rustle in the breeze. A wooden basket rests at my feet identical to the one in my grandmothers hands. We slowly fill them with fresh strawberries and small cucumbers.I'm in my favorite place my grandmother's garden. Stretching out with rows and rows of all kinds of fruits and vegetables that she grows for cooking into fresh pies, canning into pickles, and pressing into some of the best raspberry jam in the world, I help gather the harvest. Every summer I spend two weeks up north with my grandparents. I fish and swim but my absolute favorite thing for as long as I can remember is spending long hours in the garden with my grandma. It was in her garden that I learned the perfect size cucumber to make pickles and how to find raspberries hidden deep in the thorny bushes without scratching myself. I will always remember and cherish time spent in my grandmothers garden. It's those memories that prompted me to create my own garden when I turned sixteen. I had asked my parents to help me plant a garden at our house every summer for as long as I can remember but their answer had always been no. It was too much work, no one was home to take care of a garden their lists of reasons went on and on every year. • 8. Gardening For Beginners : Gardening GARDENING FOR BEGINNERS Gardening is a pastime activity of cultivating a piece of land either with fruits, vegetables, herbs or flowers to become a garden. I love gardening! Do you love gardening too? There are several reasons why I love gardening. One is the fact that I readily have a place to relax, unwind and enjoy a bit of time in solace with nature and revel in its beauty. That means, I do not have to spend hundreds of dollars on vacations with my family. Depending on what is planted in the garden, a vegetable garden is a source of home grown fresh vegetables. The same apply to a fruit or herbal garden. There are several other benefits of owning a garden, however, it is my sincere hope that after...show more content... Every garden requires constant weeding, pruning and watering. Your garden shouldn't be far from you to get adequate maintenance. You must put into consideration the climatic condition of your location. How much sun does the location for the garden get? The amount of sun will influence the type of plant for the garden. Usually, vegetables require six to eight hours sun a day to do very well. You must ensure the location has proper drainage system as most plants do not grow well in waterlogged areas. Making rigs to have an elevated platform is good for vegetable, herb and spice gardens. The soil type that is best for a garden location is loamy soil. However, any soil can be improved upon to be fertile for a garden. Toxic soil should be totally avoided. Areas that have been leached with dangerous chemicals such as oil and lead paint are not good for any garden type. How to Choose What Type of Garden Is Best For You TYPES OF GARDEN The land available to you and the climate of your region can determine the type of garden to cultivate. There are different types of garden suited for different locations and for different purposes. Also, there are gardeners who have fervor for growing explicit plants. While there are others whose aim is seeking to enhance their environment, there are those who simply enjoy a particular gardening style. However, it is important that gardeners make creative use of limited space at their deposal. Specialty Garden:

  • 10. Descriptive Essay On A Garden I set off on a sunny Saturday morning with my dad to purchase 5 pots and a pack of wildflower seeds at my local garden store. The smell of fresh and spring like air lifted me up a little as I strolled through the aisles. With my dad's experience of gardening, I brought him along to assist me and tell me what is useful. After gathering all the necessary materials like soil, seeds, and pots I headed over to the cash register. I gave the cashier a $20 that I made babysitting the day before. I arrived home and started my assigned task. I had three weeks to finish my english project and I wanted to get started as soon as possible. A gentle breeze picked up as I set up my materials on my back porch. I meticulously laid out the 5 pots, bag of fertile soil, flower seeds, and a shovel. Unsure of where to begin, I called for my dad who was working in the front of the house. Ever since we build our house in 2011, he has landscaped and built a garden every spring and summer. I used to help him pull weeds out of the garden and plant tomatoes in big huge painters buckets from Home Depot that I painted green. Even my little brother and mom would come out and work in the garden and around the yard. The sun would beat down on us, the birds sung songs, and my dog would be leashed up out back sunbathing in the sun while we worked. My dad finally came around back and I asked him, "what do I do first again?" He began to explain that all I need to do is put the soil in the pots and poke a hole Get more content on HelpWriting.net

Community Gardening Essay In today's 21st century of technological achievements, society is more in tune with which new cellular devices are able to open the front door of your house with "just the touch of one key". It is this very co–dependence on technology that has lead to the lost of our connection with the foundation of life: earth and what it produces. With the world's population at a staggering 6,881,821,283 count and growing reports the 2010 U.S Census Bureau, we as a society today face issues like world starvation, widespread disease and an increase of global warming due to human production. According to Saldivar–Tanaka and Krasny, Researchers at Cornell University who specialize in natural science andsustainability education in urban and other settings in the US and internationally, records: "Currently, NYC has one of the most activecommunity gardening movements in the US, wit over 14,000 gardeners working in somewhere between 700 and 1000 gardens, and over 15 non–profit organizations and government agencies working in support of the gardens" (Neighborhood Open Space Coalition, 2002). Some are approaching this by building "roof gardens" where city dwellers plant gardens on the roof of building complexes for produce or just hobby. Regardless of what they do with these gardens, they improve air quality by reducing carbon dioxide, which increases greenhouse gases that are destroying our ozone layer. Rooftop vegetation uses carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gases like ozone for respiration, therefore reducing the negative effects of air pollution in urban communities. Then there is also the "heat island" effect, where the stone, concrete buildings found in cities transport heat all around, heightening the average temperature. As a solution, rooftop gardens can provide shade for the massive amount of heat and while doing so transpiring moisture into the air (Advantage Environment). With such a large population, it would seem impossible to find land to accommodate these "green" Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 12. Essay about Japanese Gardens Japanese Gardens The role of gardens play a much more important role in Japan than here in the United States. This is due primarily to the fact the Japanese garden embodies native values, cultural beliefs and religious principles. Perhaps this is why there is no one prototype for the Japanese garden, just as there is no one native philosophy or aesthetic. In this way, similar to other forms of Japanese art, landscape design is constantly evolving due to exposure to outside influences, mainly Chinese, that effect not only changing aesthetic tastes but also the values of patrons. In observing a Japanese garden, it is important to remember that the line between the garden and the landscape that surrounds it is not separate. Instead,...show more content... The architecture "norm" for aristocratic homes was in the Shinden–zurkuri style, "which was clearly based on the principle that the individual parts of the building should be merged as much as possible into the garden" (Yoshida, p.12). The main building, named the Shinden, represented the area reserved for the master himself, and always opened up to the south side of the garden. There were corridors, or tai–no–ya, connecting the Shinden to the rest of the buildings in the complex. There corridors created an enclosure which is where a lake would be placed and where the stroll garden was erected. Kinkakuji, also known as the Golden Pavilion (1394), serves as an example of this Shinden type. The site in northern Kyoto was developed as a large retirement estate by Ashikaga Yoshimitsu (1358–1409) beginning in 1394. The pavilion itself was sited the edge of a sprawling palace complex that no longer exists today. This was intended as proof that the warrior shogunate could contribute to the cultural and aesthetic life of the land to an extent equal to that of the imperial aristocracy. • 15. The Benefits Of Community Gardening Another aspect of community gardening, is regarding those who participate in it. Community gardens can be seen in many cities, with the community coming together to grow produce and relationships along the way. However, it is becoming a growing trend to start this idea at a younger scale. Many schools across North America have started implementing a garden into their after–school or extracurricular programs. By introducing gardening to children at a young age allows for them to take in many of the benefits that come from gardening, and encouraging new ways of engagement. Gardening provides many hands–on activities for children, including designing, planting, and harvesting the food (Yost, 2009). Many studies have shown that children who take care of a garden, or live near one, are more likely to show an interest in gardening as they grow up and develop a strong relationship with gardens and trees (Lohr, 2005). In California, school gardens have become very popular and are continuously promoting them through the State's Education Department. An example of one of the schools in the state is Le Conte Elementary School, which not only has flowers and vegetables, but also livestock, like goats and chickens. The science curriculum at the school is very inclusive with gardening activities, such as propagation, transplanting, and composting (Ferris, 2001). There have been many studies on the effects of school gardens on children. They have shown that students who participated in a Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 16. Descriptive Writing About A Rose Garden As the sun slowly peaked out of the horizon in Riverside, California, the scorching sun and unbearable heat come along with it. Covering this dry city, Riverside fell into a moist, humid atmosphere. Besides this, the day was bright and early for a hike up to the 40–acres University of California, Riverside Botanical Gardens. As I hiked there, all I can think about is the sweat escaping my body, running down my skin. However, luckily, a thick Oak bench with a shade roof sat directly above from me to I can hide myself from the tortuous beaming sunlight. Even though sweat continued to drip down, I wiped off most of it due to over heating of my body. Once I was comfortable on the bench, I looked up and around, realizing I ended up in the Rose Garden of the Botanical gardens. The rose garden was located on the top of a man–made hill just right of the giant 18–footed trees. This hill had a warm, humid breeze combined from the Pacific Ocean and hot Riverside hot weather. provided a hub of different types of singing birds, graceful butterflies, buzzing beetles, tall trees, and a variety of flowers from all over the world. As I walked into the garden, there were several rows of different species of roses with different colors. Surrounding the rows of animated flowers, the flowers were sectioned off in four with bright orange, mellow yellow, pure white, odd purple, fierce red, and light pink. As well, three benches placed purposefully on the perimeter of the rectangular garden. I Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 17. Loving to Grow a Garden in My Backyard Essay Those who do not have a large yard for gardening, do not have to feel left out. You can still grow many of your favorite vegetables. Many gardeners have a lot of luck with container gardening. The following tips are designed to teach you how to practice vegetable container gardening. When choosing your planting vessels, the two most important things to keep in mind, is size and drainage. That being said, you can find a variety of cute, unique pots for planting. As long as you can drill some drainage holes into the object, it can be a planter. You can also place inexpensive, traditional planters, inside something pretty to dress up your yard. A good rule to follow is the bigger the container the better. You want your plants to have room ...show more content... Container gardening soil is made to retain more of the water you provide. Add some fertilizer to the mix before planting. Choose a sunny location for your container garden. Most vegetables will need at least 6 hours of full sunlight per day. Some plants, such as tomatoes, will enjoy as much sun as you can provide. If you have an area with less sun, reserve that space for herbs. They can usually get by on a little less sun. One of the nice benefits of container gardening, is the fact that you are left with very little weeding. However, this is not to say that you will never find a weed. There will be times when weeds find their way into your container. Weeds are more noticeable and easier to control in this type of gardening. Be vigilant and pull out any weeds that you see as soon as you notice it. Plants are more easily crowded out when they are in containers. You never want to allow weeds to take nutrients away from your plants. Water is always an important part of gardening. It is even more so with container gardening. Do not be surprised to find that you are having to water daily during hot, dry weather. You may be able to skip a day or more days with a traditional garden. However, since containers are smaller and have less dirt to hold in the water, they dry out much faster. Tomatoes, cucumbers, green beans, squash, carrots, and potatoes are

Nursing Times; 104: 45, 28–30 This article describes why one low–secure unit chose to initiate a horticultural therapy project and organize it as a 'workers' cooperative'. Phenomenon of hope One of the key factors associated with recovery is the phenomenon of hope. This is perhaps defined best by Miller (1992), who suggested it is the 'anticipation of a continued good state, or a release from a perceived entrapment. The anticipation may or may not be founded on concrete real world evidence. Hope is an anticipation of a future which is good and which is based upon mutuality, a sense of personal competence, coping ability, psychological well–being, purpose and meaning in life, as well as a sense of "the possible".' There appears to be an intrinsic relationship between gardening and hope. The very action of planting a seed in the soil requires hope; by encouraging and in some senses almost imposing a sense of hope on to someone, a personal journey may begin. However, there may be something in gardening associated with providing hope for those who may have little else to
