Introduction No two witnesses statements are alike. As an officer, taking witness statements is an essential part of every case. It is important to
understand that people perceive events differently. As the officer, it is your job to ask questions that will make the witness remember as much details
as possible. Doing this exercise, has opened our eyes to just how different two witness statements can be. While conducting this exercise, we have
found that our witness statements have many similarities, but many differences as well. In the video we watched, we observed an intoxicated male
drive a white GMC Yukon into a tree who was then arrested for driving a motor vehicle under the influence of alcohol. Throughout this paper, we will

Witness Film Essay
The film Witness(underline witness), Directed by Peter Weir was famous in 1984. This film is about two cultures clashing with each other the
Amish and The Western Society and a story line of a murder crime. "A big city cop who knows too much...His only evidence: A small boy who's
seen too much". The main character of this film is Harrison Ford as John Book. Today I will be talking about two of the themes Peter Weir uses in
the film 'Witness'. They are the clash of two worlds and power.
The first theme that I would like to speak about is the clash of two worlds 'The Amish' and 'The Western Society'. This theme, Weir has made a clear
comparison between the two worlds. They could not work together in harmony because of the differences in...show more content...
While the City life is crowded with transport, people, tall, tightly spaced buildings and the pollution the urban community live in. The city lives are
dealt with violence, greed and criticism of the people. The dull colour of scene where people are rushing to reach their destination and the heavy and
quick pace of the music has change dramatically from the opening scene as the changes is when Rachel and Samuel got on the train to go and visit
her sister in the city. As the train starts to travel you could hear a great change of music from calm and soothing music to a rush and mysterious sound
of the music with this it tries to tell us that Rachel and Samuel are travelling for the first time out of their comfort zone of their home into a world that
is strange and unknown to them.
As an audience we could see how Weir has portrayed negative thoughts of the city life while the Amish country life is a positive. Because of this issue
the clash of two cultures is demonstrated through the relationship between Rachel and Book. A relationship that started at the first sight but ended as
the end drew near, because of the huge gap of their cultures, faith and understanding. Rachel was a stranger to the big city life and could never
understand it, and Book could never understand the culture and the life of the Amish people. An example to this is when John, Rachel, Eli and Samuel
were having breakfast and John made a joke which no one

Witness, By Australian Peter Weir
Introduction:
Witness is a film which explores the differences between the modern American and traditional Amish communities. Directed by Australian Peter Weir,
the film is set in 1985, in Pennsylvania, America. Rachel Lapp and her young son, Samuel, leave the Amish community to travel to Baltimore to visit
Rachel's sister. Whilst waiting at the train station Samuel enters the bathroom where he witnesses a murder of a police officer. This involves the
appropriately named honest detective John Book, who investigate the murder and does things by the book. Witness brings together two different
worlds and explores the effects. Witness also discusses organizational culture in its revelations of the Philadelphia police force's entrenched corruption.

In the Amish community, Samuel found Book's gun in the shelf, Eli warns Samuel of the dangers of the gun and how it is unwelcomed in
Samuel's community. This powerful scene shows the loss of innocence in Samuel and the peaceful beliefs of the Amish. This is compared to the
scenario of the story where the corruption and base of this thriller is because of drug deals within high officials of the Philadelphia police station.
The corruption from high officials is passed down to lower levels police officers. The greed for money from these drug deals causes the imminent
death of a police officer who is supposedly is a part of the team. This represents how far the corruption can lead, all because of greed for money.
Conclusion:
Witness is a deep film which explores many aspects of the modern world and compares it to the prehistoric life–style of the Amish. It highlights the
important of socialism and represents how two different cultures can

Seasoned Expert Witnesses
As an expert witness, you testify about the facts and offer opinions. Even a seasoned expert can make mistakes; here are the top five mistakes that
expert witnesses make.
1. Not meeting with the attorney who called you to testify prior to your testimony date
Without meeting with the attorney, you cannot properly prepare to testify. It is vital that you meet with the attorney calling you to testify; the attorney
needs to give you an overview of the case and address what information is valuable to the case. The effectiveness of your testimony is sometimes
dependent on the attorney's approach and the questions being asked. You should be given an outline of the questions being asked and the sequence in
which they will be given. Having this information...show more content...
Be sure to explain the importance of this meeting in that your testimony will be organized and you will know what information is beneficial to the
attorney's case.
The opposing attorney may request a pre–trial meeting with you. Take advantage of this opportunity. If you are hired by the state for a criminal case,
welcome a meeting with the defense attorney. Doing so gives the attorney an opportunity to review the tests you performed and results now, as opposed
to in the courtroom during your testimony. You can use this meeting to discuss the results with the attorney and shows you are unbiased.
2. Not delivering an expert opinion in a legally sufficient way
In the majority of civil cases, legal requirements for an expert opinion are directly related to the existing burden of proof. In civil cases, the burden
of proof refers to "more likely than not," "a preponderance of the evidence" or "more than 50 percent likely;" therefore, if you are unable to state your
conclusion with absolute certainty, you need to use phrases that express your opinions are based on no less than a 51 percent probability.
Effective phrases include:

Witness, By Peter Weir
The 1985 film 'Witness' displays the concept of "No man is an island, entire of itself, every man is an island, entire of itself, a part of the main." This
means that every man has a place within society/community and cannot make one by himself. Peter Weir explores this in the film with belonging and
not belonging, and is shown through the narrative, context, camera angles, soundtrack etc. From different perspectives, in the film, it may or may not
be possible to successfully withdraw from mainstream society and belong to a closed community. It is stated that every man is a part of the 'main' in
John Donne's poem 'No man is an island.' This is shown to be possible from different perspectives in Peter Weir's film, 'Witness'.

Jehovah's Witnesses Essay
Many studies about Jehovah Witnesses state that they are the strictest religion out there. They have rules that should be followed or the person ends up
condemned. They do not believe in other religions whatsoever, in any shape or form. Jehovah Witnesses God's name to them is Jehovah. The
sociological concepts discussed will be social class and norms, a function and a dysfunction of Jehovah Witness religion, a symbolic ritual, and an
aspect of this religion that entails conflict. According to dictionary.com (n.d.), Jehovah witnesses are a part of a Christian Sect. Henslin (2012) states
that a sect is like a cult, but larger than the cult. Dictionary.com (n.d) states that Jehovah Witnesses were founded in the late nineteenth century,

This data says is that Jehovah Witnesses barely go to college, which means they get the lower jobs and have to work the rest of their lives, barely
going up in the job ladder of merit. Another sociological concept for Jehovah Witnesses is norms. Some norms for Jehovah Witnesses are no sex
before marriage, no gambling, very little drinking, no abortion, and no war. Sex before marriage is a major sin in all religions, but Jehovah
Witnesses see it as something that should not even be thought of before marriage in any form (religionfacts.com, n.d.). Gambling is a form of greed,
and should not be done. A little drinking is allowed for the Jehovah Witnesses but if they end up drunk, it is considered a sin (religionfacts.com, n.d.).
Jehovah Witnesses condemn people that abort their children (religionfacts.com, n.d.). Jehovah Witnesses also refuse to participate in wars because
they are not in the Battle of Armageddon (religionfacts.com, n.d.). Most things that almost all Americans do nowadays are banned from the Jehovah
Witness religion like drink, sex before marriage, and gamble. One function of a Jehovah Witness is emotional comfort. Religion brings and provides a
meaning to life. Religion lets people know that they all have a purpose in life in any form, happiness and suffering. Most religions assure that others
will care for them no matter what. One dysfunction of being a Jehovah Witness is witnessing. Many

Even when everyone proclaims to be an expert these days, it is different in court cases because expert witnesses are usually called in by one of the
parties to help jurors understand complicated, technical concepts. However not everyone qualifies as an expert witness, and not all expert testimonies
are accepted as stated below;
According to Federal Rules of evidence, in order to be an expert witness, one should have knowledge, skill, education and experience in a specialized
field. We often think that expert witnesses are the DNA in a murder case; however there are many that can qualify as experts witness for instance an

On the website, www.innocenceproject.org/causes/eyewitness–misidentification/ examines the accuracy of eyewitness identification. In today's
society, people say if you see something, say something. Now, more and more people are speaking up and giving needed eyewitness statements to the
authorities. The Innocence Project points out areas where eyewitness identification can render inaccurate results. For instance, the police may give
non–verbal hints that causes the witness to doubts the details of the incident resulting in a wrongful conviction. To prevent misidentification, the
Innocence Project is partnering with law enforcement to come up with list of policies to follow.

the problem occurs when they police began to question them about the incident. If the perpetrator is someone that the eyewitness does not know, the
eyewitness feels pressured to id someone and often end up identifying the wrong person. In some cases, waiting to get in eyewitness statement to
prove to be a good call. According to the textbook, Psychology, the dig deeper section talks about how the waiting can be a good thing before getting
an eyewitness statement. When children are the eyewitness, by waiting allows the child to recall specific details about the incident. For example, I

Witness Film Techniques
The thriller film 'Witness', directed by Peter Weir in 1985, tells about cultural conflicts between the Amish of Western Pennsylvania and Modern
American corruption and violence. Philadelphia Police officer, John Book was obligated to hide from the three brutally and corrupt police officers as
they were looking for a little Amish boy, Samuel Lapp. The boy witnessed the brutal killings and identified the killer as the three police officers. The
'Witness' strongly displayed many images of people and incorporated several techniques and images in various scenes to portray the contrast between
two different worlds.
The scene depicts the peaceful and calm surroundings of the Amish. This is most apparent in the scene where a slow panning...show more content...
The journey of Rachel and Samuel Lapp to Boston to visit Rachel's sister becomes quite an experience. The varieties of camera shots give the
audience Samuel's perspective of Philadelphia station. Harsh and loud noises from large crowd contrasts with the high level angle shot of people
walking around independently in the train station, increase the individualism of the modern world. In contrast, Amish community is a collective group.
Within the murder scene at Pennsylvania train station, Samuel, a young, innocent and naive Amish boy views a horrific murder. The close up shot of
Samuel's terrified eyes is strongly contrasted with the camera shots were moving back and forth from Samuel's face and the horrific event happening
in front of him, the shots kept increasing in speed demonstrating Samuel's beating heart. This is an unnatural scene to Samuel, one he would never
have to experience within his Amish world. This emphasises the culture different views on violence in such a violent way. In the Amish society
everyone is considered to be equal and taking of another people's life will be shunned. However, this scene reinforces that violence has no place within
the Amish culture, whereas the Western world would resort to whatever is necessary. Weir's choices of urban

Verbal Witness Essay
Jones states that verbal witness is necessary besides some action like helping and supporting other people, which seems like letting people know
about why something like love or material. (256) It can be a positive side for people who receive or give so they are more clear about what they
do. But sometimes some people focus too much on verbal witness when they share Christ's love with food, clothing, shelter, or some necessities.
They make some kind of rule before they share foods as recipients have to listen to short gospel before meal is given or they have to memorize one
short verse before winter clothing is given. Even though there is still a positive side, it can be possible to lean against one side of conditional love for

Eyewitness Testimony
There has been considerable interest and study in the accuracy or inaccuracy of the use of eyewitness testimonies in the current criminal justice system.
Results collated by several studies add to the bulk of literature suggesting that the current usage of eyewitness testimony by the legal system is far from
ideal. Currently, high emphasis is being placed on reviewing and reconsidering eyewitness accounts (Leinfelt, 2004). In particular, recent DNA
exoneration cases have shown that mistaken eyewitness identification was one of the largest factors contributing to the sentence of innocent people
(Wells & Olson, 2003). For example, 75% of the first 271 cases of DNA exoneration in the US resulted in eyewitnesstestimony error (Brewer & Wells

Given these findings, it suggests that if an unfamiliar story can be re–told with significant changes by all those who participated in the study, a
statement given by an eyewitness is subject to the same results (Leinfelt, 2004). Having considered Bartlett's research in 1932, it is also reasonable to
consider the criticism of Gauld and Stephenson (1967), as they discovered if the participants were told of the importance of accurate recall, the number
of errors made in the re–telling was notably reduced. Arguably, real life cases and laboratory findings have shown that although eyewitnesses
understand the importance of accuracy, recall is not without error (Tversky & Tuchin, 1989).
Subsequently, a study led by Brewer and Treyens (1981) involved further research into the tie between schemas and visual memory. The experiment
supported the theory of schema expectancy – participants, who were placed in a workplace setting, were able to easily recall office supplies as
opposed to the more unusual items also left in their vicinity (Brewer & Treyens, 1981). Once again, this leads to the inference that the witness can
unconsciously alter recollection of events in eyewitness testimony, and that there is no guarantee of accuracy in their statement (Leinfelt,

Imagine riding your bicycle, going to the park, or even reading a book when an authority figure approaches you and tells you that you are no longer
allowed to do so. They tell you you have to stay at home at all times from now on. This is what it was like for the Jewish during the Holocaust. But the
hateful acts did not stop there. The Holocaust was a mass genocide where over six million Jews were killed by Nazis under Hitler's rule. The Nazis had
a pure hatred for the Jews and took away all of the rights that belonged to the Jews just because they had different religious beliefs. The novel We Are

the Holocaust The Nazis persecuted and oppressed innocent Jews just because of different religious beliefs. "Between September 15 and 21, the Jews

"However, when Russell found himself unable to answer certain questions of a sceptic, he, himself, passed over into a frigid unbelief. It was then that
he met the Seventh–day Adventists, and his faith in Christianity, and especially in the Second Advent, was restored."1
Russell had no formal Bible training, but borrowed and built upon various teachings that were popular at the time. In 1879 Russell started his own
magazine (now known as the Watchtower) to promote his doctrines. Russell's sensational end of time predictions drew many people and the
organization grew. An example of this would be Russell's prediction that in 1874 the second coming of Christ would come. This prediction he
borrowed from N. H. Barbour who believed that Christ would return invisibly to the work in 1874 and that 1914 was the year the world would be
destroyed and the Millennium would begin. The Millennium is a 1,000–year period, beginning after Armageddon, when Christ will rule over the earth.
During this time, the dead will be resurrected, humankind will attain perfection and paradise will be restored. Russell wrote a new Bible for the
followers of his day, which he claimed came to him directly from God. Russell claimed that to read and understand the Bible you needed an interpreter.
He claimed to be the only one with the truth and outwardly condemned all other Christian religions. This caused other ministers to work at exposing

Thus, when any member from the team establishes credibility including the expert witness or the eyewitness, the witness holds an advantage for his
team, even throughout cross–examination. Furthermore, an expert witness or an eyewitness may continue to impress jurors during cross, unless the
cross–examiner is well–prepared and brings the opposing eye or expert witness to his team through agreement of his arguments. Therefore, lawyers
must be careful while cross–examining (Kebbell). Lawyers must ask questions that will aid their team and avoid questions that will harm their team.

When a expert witness prepares for trail, it is important that they understand it is a high possibility they will be overwhelmed by the trial setting.
There are several tips for a successful preparation for expert witnesses. Like for example, the expert witness must read over and know details about
both sides of the case so that they will be prepared for any questions that may be asked of them. When ever a expert is speaking to the judge, jury, and
the court reporters they must also remember to be straight forward with their answers and do not hesitate if possible. By doing this, it will show the
judge and the jury that they are confident and appear to know what they are talking about. Expert witnesses must be prepared to hold their emotions
to the side and never get defensive on the stand. Another good preparation method for expert witnesses would be to provide visual aids such as
pictures, diagrams, and models to keep the judge and jury focus and excited about the trial. The last thing they need to do is to lose their attention by
talking and explaining so much. Expert witnesses should also work on their body language. At all times make eye contact with the person they are

English Essay – 'Witness' by Peter Weir
The 1985 film witness, directed by Peter Weir is a crime/drama that develops the theme of conflict on a social, cultural and personal level. These areas
of conflict are highlighted through the use of film techniques such as; camera shots, camera angles, lighting and costume. The film outlines the contrast
between mainstream American society and the Amish community in regional Pennsylvania. While American society is seen as a violent and arrogant
group of people, whereas the Amish are seen to be a peaceful, religious group of people. In this film the Amish perceive the mainstream American
society to be called the 'English'. The reason for this is the Amish originated in England so they believe that...show more content...
The director portrays this like an old western shoot–out, because Book is walking away then holsters his pistol in a shoot–out type fashion. We see
rapid mid–range shots between Book and McPhee which gives us the feeling of a fast paced action movie. This leaves Book wounded and in a state of
shock.
Book then flees to the Amish hideout with Rachel and Samuel because it is no longer safe in Boston. Book is cared for by the Amish by using
traditional herbal teas and remedies. One morning, Book awakes to find Samuel holding his gun and yells 'don't move' with an outburst of anger.
Book removes the bullets and allows for Samuel to hold it. Rachel walks in and sees that Samuel is in possession of the gun and sends him
downstairs. Book now creates a personal conflict because he knows that he should not have let Samuel get his hands on the gun because violence is
against their beliefs, and morally no children of any culture should be in contact with guns. Book also knows that he is the protector and he needs to
nurture Samuel but not expose him to the ways of the 'English'.
As the plot progresses we see the growing love interest between Book and Rachel develop. In particular where Book is trying to start the car in the
barn and Rachel joins him. The car starts, the radio fires up and the DJ announces 'What A Wonderful World' to the excitement of Book. Book invites
Rachel to dance where they sing and have a great time until Eli walks in.

  • 2. Introduction No two witnesses statements are alike. As an officer, taking witness statements is an essential part of every case. It is important to understand that people perceive events differently. As the officer, it is your job to ask questions that will make the witness remember as much details as possible. Doing this exercise, has opened our eyes to just how different two witness statements can be. While conducting this exercise, we have found that our witness statements have many similarities, but many differences as well. In the video we watched, we observed an intoxicated male drive a white GMC Yukon into a tree who was then arrested for driving a motor vehicle under the influence of alcohol. Throughout this paper, we will outline these Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 3. Witness Film Essay The film Witness(underline witness), Directed by Peter Weir was famous in 1984. This film is about two cultures clashing with each other the Amish and The Western Society and a story line of a murder crime. "A big city cop who knows too much...His only evidence: A small boy who's seen too much". The main character of this film is Harrison Ford as John Book. Today I will be talking about two of the themes Peter Weir uses in the film 'Witness'. They are the clash of two worlds and power. The first theme that I would like to speak about is the clash of two worlds 'The Amish' and 'The Western Society'. This theme, Weir has made a clear comparison between the two worlds. They could not work together in harmony because of the differences in...show more content... While the City life is crowded with transport, people, tall, tightly spaced buildings and the pollution the urban community live in. The city lives are dealt with violence, greed and criticism of the people. The dull colour of scene where people are rushing to reach their destination and the heavy and quick pace of the music has change dramatically from the opening scene as the changes is when Rachel and Samuel got on the train to go and visit her sister in the city. As the train starts to travel you could hear a great change of music from calm and soothing music to a rush and mysterious sound of the music with this it tries to tell us that Rachel and Samuel are travelling for the first time out of their comfort zone of their home into a world that is strange and unknown to them. As an audience we could see how Weir has portrayed negative thoughts of the city life while the Amish country life is a positive. Because of this issue the clash of two cultures is demonstrated through the relationship between Rachel and Book. A relationship that started at the first sight but ended as the end drew near, because of the huge gap of their cultures, faith and understanding. Rachel was a stranger to the big city life and could never understand it, and Book could never understand the culture and the life of the Amish people. An example to this is when John, Rachel, Eli and Samuel were having breakfast and John made a joke which no one Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 4. Witness, By Australian Peter Weir Introduction: Witness is a film which explores the differences between the modern American and traditional Amish communities. Directed by Australian Peter Weir, the film is set in 1985, in Pennsylvania, America. Rachel Lapp and her young son, Samuel, leave the Amish community to travel to Baltimore to visit Rachel's sister. Whilst waiting at the train station Samuel enters the bathroom where he witnesses a murder of a police officer. This involves the appropriately named honest detective John Book, who investigate the murder and does things by the book. Witness brings together two different worlds and explores the effects. Witness also discusses organizational culture in its revelations of the Philadelphia police force's entrenched corruption. ...show more content... In the Amish community, Samuel found Book's gun in the shelf, Eli warns Samuel of the dangers of the gun and how it is unwelcomed in Samuel's community. This powerful scene shows the loss of innocence in Samuel and the peaceful beliefs of the Amish. This is compared to the scenario of the story where the corruption and base of this thriller is because of drug deals within high officials of the Philadelphia police station. The corruption from high officials is passed down to lower levels police officers. The greed for money from these drug deals causes the imminent death of a police officer who is supposedly is a part of the team. This represents how far the corruption can lead, all because of greed for money. Conclusion: Witness is a deep film which explores many aspects of the modern world and compares it to the prehistoric life–style of the Amish. It highlights the important of socialism and represents how two different cultures can Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 5. Seasoned Expert Witnesses As an expert witness, you testify about the facts and offer opinions. Even a seasoned expert can make mistakes; here are the top five mistakes that expert witnesses make. 1. Not meeting with the attorney who called you to testify prior to your testimony date Without meeting with the attorney, you cannot properly prepare to testify. It is vital that you meet with the attorney calling you to testify; the attorney needs to give you an overview of the case and address what information is valuable to the case. The effectiveness of your testimony is sometimes dependent on the attorney's approach and the questions being asked. You should be given an outline of the questions being asked and the sequence in which they will be given. Having this information...show more content... Be sure to explain the importance of this meeting in that your testimony will be organized and you will know what information is beneficial to the attorney's case. The opposing attorney may request a pre–trial meeting with you. Take advantage of this opportunity. If you are hired by the state for a criminal case, welcome a meeting with the defense attorney. Doing so gives the attorney an opportunity to review the tests you performed and results now, as opposed to in the courtroom during your testimony. You can use this meeting to discuss the results with the attorney and shows you are unbiased. 2. Not delivering an expert opinion in a legally sufficient way In the majority of civil cases, legal requirements for an expert opinion are directly related to the existing burden of proof. In civil cases, the burden of proof refers to "more likely than not," "a preponderance of the evidence" or "more than 50 percent likely;" therefore, if you are unable to state your conclusion with absolute certainty, you need to use phrases that express your opinions are based on no less than a 51 percent probability. Effective phrases include: More likely than

  • 7. Witness, By Peter Weir The 1985 film 'Witness' displays the concept of "No man is an island, entire of itself, every man is an island, entire of itself, a part of the main." This means that every man has a place within society/community and cannot make one by himself. Peter Weir explores this in the film with belonging and not belonging, and is shown through the narrative, context, camera angles, soundtrack etc. From different perspectives, in the film, it may or may not be possible to successfully withdraw from mainstream society and belong to a closed community. It is stated that every man is a part of the 'main' in John Donne's poem 'No man is an island.' This is shown to be possible from different perspectives in Peter Weir's film, 'Witness'. • 8. Jehovah's Witnesses Essay Many studies about Jehovah Witnesses state that they are the strictest religion out there. They have rules that should be followed or the person ends up condemned. They do not believe in other religions whatsoever, in any shape or form. Jehovah Witnesses God's name to them is Jehovah. The sociological concepts discussed will be social class and norms, a function and a dysfunction of Jehovah Witness religion, a symbolic ritual, and an aspect of this religion that entails conflict. According to dictionary.com (n.d.), Jehovah witnesses are a part of a Christian Sect. Henslin (2012) states that a sect is like a cult, but larger than the cult. This data says is that Jehovah Witnesses barely go to college, which means they get the lower jobs and have to work the rest of their lives, barely going up in the job ladder of merit. Another sociological concept for Jehovah Witnesses is norms. Some norms for Jehovah Witnesses are no sex before marriage, no gambling, very little drinking, no abortion, and no war. Sex before marriage is a major sin in all religions, but Jehovah Witnesses see it as something that should not even be thought of before marriage in any form (religionfacts.com, n.d.). Gambling is a form of greed, and should not be done. A little drinking is allowed for the Jehovah Witnesses but if they end up drunk, it is considered a sin (religionfacts.com, n.d.). Jehovah Witnesses condemn people that abort their children (religionfacts.com, n.d.). Jehovah Witnesses also refuse to participate in wars because they are not in the Battle of Armageddon (religionfacts.com, n.d.). Most things that almost all Americans do nowadays are banned from the Jehovah Witness religion like drink, sex before marriage, and gamble. One function of a Jehovah Witness is emotional comfort. Religion brings and provides a meaning to life. Religion lets people know that they all have a purpose in life in any form, happiness and suffering. Most religions assure that others will care for them no matter what. One dysfunction of being a Jehovah Witness is witnessing. Many Get more content on HelpWriting.net

Expert Witness Research Paper Even when everyone proclaims to be an expert these days, it is different in court cases because expert witnesses are usually called in by one of the parties to help jurors understand complicated, technical concepts. However not everyone qualifies as an expert witness, and not all expert testimonies are accepted as stated below; According to Federal Rules of evidence, in order to be an expert witness, one should have knowledge, skill, education and experience in a specialized field. In today's society, people say if you see something, say something. Now, more and more people are speaking up and giving needed eyewitness statements to the authorities. The Innocence Project points out areas where eyewitness identification can render inaccurate results. For instance, the police may give non–verbal hints that causes the witness to doubts the details of the incident resulting in a wrongful conviction. In contrast, Amish community is a collective group. Within the murder scene at Pennsylvania train station, Samuel, a young, innocent and naive Amish boy views a horrific murder. The close up shot of Samuel's terrified eyes is strongly contrasted with the camera shots were moving back and forth from Samuel's face and the horrific event happening in front of him, the shots kept increasing in speed demonstrating Samuel's beating heart. This is an unnatural scene to Samuel, one he would never have to experience within his Amish world. This emphasises the culture different views on violence in such a violent way. In the Amish society everyone is considered to be equal and taking of another people's life will be shunned. However, this scene reinforces that violence has no place within the Amish culture, whereas the Western world would resort to whatever is necessary. Verbal Witness Essay Jones states that verbal witness is necessary besides some action like helping and supporting other people, which seems like letting people know about why something like love or material. (256) It can be a positive side for people who receive or give so they are more clear about what they do. But sometimes some people focus too much on verbal witness when they share Christ's love with food, clothing, shelter, or some necessities. They make some kind of rule before they share foods as recipients have to listen to short gospel before meal is given or they have to memorize one short verse before winter clothing is given. • 15. Eyewitness Testimony There has been considerable interest and study in the accuracy or inaccuracy of the use of eyewitness testimonies in the current criminal justice system. Results collated by several studies add to the bulk of literature suggesting that the current usage of eyewitness testimony by the legal system is far from ideal. Currently, high emphasis is being placed on reviewing and reconsidering eyewitness accounts (Leinfelt, 2004). In particular, recent DNA exoneration cases have shown that mistaken eyewitness identification was one of the largest factors contributing to the sentence of innocent people (Wells & Olson, 2003). For example, 75% of the first 271 cases of DNA exoneration in the US resulted in eyewitnesstestimony error (Brewer & Wells cited...show more content... Given these findings, it suggests that if an unfamiliar story can be re–told with significant changes by all those who participated in the study, a statement given by an eyewitness is subject to the same results (Leinfelt, 2004). Having considered Bartlett's research in 1932, it is also reasonable to consider the criticism of Gauld and Stephenson (1967), as they discovered if the participants were told of the importance of accurate recall, the number of errors made in the re–telling was notably reduced. Arguably, real life cases and laboratory findings have shown that although eyewitnesses understand the importance of accuracy, recall is not without error (Tversky & Tuchin, 1989). Subsequently, a study led by Brewer and Treyens (1981) involved further research into the tie between schemas and visual memory. The experiment supported the theory of schema expectancy – participants, who were placed in a workplace setting, were able to easily recall office supplies as opposed to the more unusual items also left in their vicinity (Brewer & Treyens, 1981). Once again, this leads to the inference that the witness can unconsciously alter recollection of events in eyewitness testimony, and that there is no guarantee of accuracy in their statement (Leinfelt, Get more content on HelpWriting.net

We Are Witnesses Essay Topics Imagine riding your bicycle, going to the park, or even reading a book when an authority figure approaches you and tells you that you are no longer allowed to do so. They tell you you have to stay at home at all times from now on. This is what it was like for the Jewish during the Holocaust. But the hateful acts did not stop there. The Holocaust was a mass genocide where over six million Jews were killed by Nazis under Hitler's rule. The Nazis had a pure hatred for the Jews and took away all of the rights that belonged to the Jews just because they had different religious beliefs. The novel We Are Witnesses by Jacob Boas, a Holocaust survivor himself, focuses on the lives of five different Jewish teenagers and the difficulties they faced during the Holocaust The Nazis persecuted and oppressed innocent Jews just because of different religious beliefs. It was then that he met the Seventh–day Adventists, and his faith in Christianity, and especially in the Second Advent, was restored."1 Russell had no formal Bible training, but borrowed and built upon various teachings that were popular at the time. In 1879 Russell started his own magazine (now known as the Watchtower) to promote his doctrines. Russell's sensational end of time predictions drew many people and the organization grew. An example of this would be Russell's prediction that in 1874 the second coming of Christ would come. This prediction he borrowed from N. H. Barbour who believed that Christ would return invisibly to the work in 1874 and that 1914 was the year the world would be destroyed and the Millennium would begin. The Millennium is a 1,000–year period, beginning after Armageddon, when Christ will rule over the earth. During this time, the dead will be resurrected, humankind will attain perfection and paradise will be restored. Russell wrote a new Bible for the followers of his day, which he claimed came to him directly from God. Russell claimed that to read and understand the Bible you needed an interpreter. He claimed to be the only one with the truth and outwardly condemned all other Christian religions. This caused other ministers to work at exposing Russell's Get more content on HelpWriting.net

The director portrays this like an old western shoot–out, because Book is walking away then holsters his pistol in a shoot–out type fashion. We see rapid mid–range shots between Book and McPhee which gives us the feeling of a fast paced action movie. This leaves Book wounded and in a state of shock. Book then flees to the Amish hideout with Rachel and Samuel because it is no longer safe in Boston. Book is cared for by the Amish by using traditional herbal teas and remedies. One morning, Book awakes to find Samuel holding his gun and yells 'don't move' with an outburst of anger. Book removes the bullets and allows for Samuel to hold it. Rachel walks in and sees that Samuel is in possession of the gun and sends him downstairs. Book now creates a personal conflict because he knows that he should not have let Samuel get his hands on the gun because violence is against their beliefs, and morally no children of any culture should be in contact with guns. Book also knows that he is the protector and he needs to nurture Samuel but not expose him to the ways of the 'English'. As the plot progresses we see the growing love interest between Book and Rachel develop. In particular where Book is trying to start the car in the barn and Rachel joins him. The car starts, the radio fires up and the DJ announces 'What A Wonderful World' to the excitement of Book. Book invites Rachel to dance where they sing and have a great time until Eli walks in.
