1. MOBILE
TECHNOLOGIES
Mobile technologies defines various types of cellular communication devices that
one can use for communication, business, marketing, education and others. These
devices can be used at anytime and anywhere. These devices need good connectivity,
a working internet and GPS navigation. Mobile technologies have taken over the
world, they gave people a chance to work and study at their own pace and time.
They have changed many industries such as the library system but with everything
that happened with covid-19, mobile technologies gave us a sense of normality.
Lessons were taken online, people were able to work from home and businesses
used online marketing and online purchasing to continue operating and others were
still able to access information from the library from the comfort of their homes.
2. WHAT IS
MOBILE
TECHNOLOGI
ES?
❖ Mobile technology is technology that a user can
carry with everywhere they go. It is portable and can
connect while you are on the go.
❖ It is a two-way communicating device. It enables
users to perform communication matters using
either a phone, tablet or a laptop.
❖ Mobile technology consists of internet-enabled
devices. It is mostly used by cellular communication
systems.
❖ It uses multiple transmitters to deliver data and
information using a single channel simultaneously
using code-division multiple access.
❖ It permits multiple users at the same time to use a single frequency
by restricting frequency disturbance
❖ Examples are cellphones, laptop, tablets.
3. ADVANTAGES OF MOBILE
TECHNOLOGIES
Mobile technologies have many advantages, it has changed things for
the better. It allows people to get their work done more easily.
Mobile technology has improved communication through increased
digital communication by eradicating time and distance as an obstacle
to get work done or get the message across.
Mobile technologies has increased collaboration between team
members through mobile devices and internet.Mobile devices and
internet allows them to conduct teleconferences.
Mobile technologies promote remote work. Individuals can do their
work anytime and anywhere.
Mobile technologies saves time and reduces operational costs due to
its flexible behaviors.
Mobile technologies improves productivity.
4. ADVANTAGES OF
MOBILE
TECHNOLOGIES
❑ Mobile technologies provide real time data using mobile-integrated data
software which allows users to access real time data wherever they are at that
given time.
❑ Mobile technologies promote online learning through various engagement
platforms such as blackboard, google classroom, zoom and others.
❑ mobile technologies give learners a sense of ownership when it comes to their
studies since they get to control how they learn and manage their studies
according to their preferences.
❑ Mobile technologies are easily
accessible and portable.They are a
great teaching, learning, business and
management aid.
❑ Mobile technologies are a great
platform for practical tools since
they enhance the learning process
through immediate feedback on test
and quizzes, self-reflection and
brainstorming.
5. Mobile technologies allow libraries to
maintain user privacy.
Users can use mobile devices to download library
material using their mobile devices.
Users can access my library services from their mobile
devices to check for updates ,read alerts, check records,
renew resources, request items, track interlibrary loans
and document delivery requests, and set up email
notices of new books and journal articles.
Users can use text reference service to ask
question, ask for assistance and other stuff and
receive instant help electronically.
HOW CAN MOBILE
TECHNOLOGIES BE USED IN A
SLIC ENVIRONMENT?

- Mobile technologies can be used in a libraries to
provide great service.
-Users can use mobile devices to access the library
services.
-Users can use mobile technologies to access
material from the library such as e-books and
multimedia content anytime and anywhere.
- Mobile technologies can be used to support distant
learning, formal education and research activities in
an e-learning environment
6. ADVANTAGES OF
IMPLEMENTING
MOBILE
TECHNOLOGY IN
LIBRARIES
❑ Mobile technologies can be used to provide users with information based on
their location. Provide information about their nearest library, working hours and
so on.
❑ Mobile technologies allow libraries to offer limitless services through online
platforms.
❑ mobile technologies give people with disabilities a chance to access library
services remotely for example a services can be provided orally for vision-
disabled individuals
❑ Mobile technologies can be used to help library patrons to connect using mobile
devices. They can create a library application or a mobile website that will allow
all patrons to have access to the library database and library account.
❑ Personalised service will allow
users to interact with the library
stuff online using mobile technology
to ask questions about services
they need.
❑ Users can save time by not saving
their browsing history record
information about books and other
resources while using the library
online system.
7. WHAT SHOULD LIBRARIES CONSIDER
WHEN USING MOBILETECHNOLOGIES
• Libraries need to consider user safety. They need to protect their users
from internet fraud and identity fraud.
• Library patrons need to be trained properly and be provided with the
support they need.
• Library database needs to be updated regularly. Users need to be aware of
the type of material they can access from their mobile devices.
• Communication, interaction and access should be a priority and librarians
need to know how to navigate mobile technologies in order to give users
the assistance they require.
• Libraries need to have the best security to protect their materials.
• Libraries when considering mobile technologies, they need to be ready to
let go of the traditional method
8. LIBRARY SERVICES THROUGH
MOBILE TECHNOLOGIES.
• SMS notification services
• E-resources
• Browsing of library database
• Text reference service.
• Distribution of electronic material.
9. Learners can use virtual reality to
experience classroom learning
differently.They get to use their
smartphones to interact with
learning material in a 3D format
that enhances learning .
HOW CAN MOBILETECHNOLOGIES
TRANSFORM THE CLASSROOM
Tablets in the classroom
The teacher can record a lesson
for learners to view at home or
in the classroom. the teacher has
the ability to conduct a lesson
without being in the classroom.
learners can useYouTube to learn
Augmented reality
Special schools can use assistive
technology such as speech
recognition devices that can turn
audio into written words .
Assistive technology
Learners can access information
from the library while in the
classroom.They can share files
and other learning material.
Audio recording and
videos
10. CONCLUSION
