6. 3D Printing & Robotics in Construction
3D printing expected to enter construction industry in 2020’s
3D printing is a computer-driven manufacturing technology used for producing the
final product from digital model by laying down successive layers of materials
3D printing begins with
creating a digital model of
the objective, usually
using CAD software
The 3D printer slices
model into numerous
digital cross-sections, and
automatically builds the
model using materials like
thermoplastics.
The final 3D printed
objective is then cleaned
to remove overhanging
materials and is polished
for final use.

7. Big Data
Frost & Sullivan 2016
Digital storage is doubling every 18 months
• In 2014, we produced more data in one year than the whole of human
history
Big Data contains both:
• Structured data
• Databases
• Systems
• Unstructured data
• Social media
• Video / audio What does it mean for Power Industry?
Customer Data
• Usage patterns
• Generation and storage requirements
• System designs – stranded assets
• Mini Grids
• Emergency Responses
Asset Data
• Predictive Maintenance – replacement costs
• Asset lifecycle management – audit regimes

12. Is your organisation resilient to its
Emerging Risks?
Resilience Definitions
• Networks – ability to maintain acceptable level of service in face of
challenges
• Engineering – properties to absorb unexpected energy and reform
• Psychology – positive capacity of people to cope with adversity
• Organisations – ability of a system / company to adapt to significant
changes
13. What is it to be resilient
Resilience is not only Crisis Management
It is whole of organisation’s ability to:
• Resist – can the organisation absorb the impact and positively move
forward
• Recover – the speed and degree of recovery to original status
• Re-orientation – ability to change direction and adapt
• Renew – can the recovery head towards growth
