2. Obesity
• Obesity is
defined as an
excess of body
fat.
• Obesity has a
number of risk
factors that
include Type 2
Diabetes,
Cardiovascular
disease and
many cancers.
• There are
preventative
strategies that
can be put in
place to
reduce
numbers of
childhood
obesity.
3. Globally, around an estimated 170 million children that are aged 18 years or younger are now estimated to be
overweight.
4. Due to rapid increases in the
rates of obesity and the
serious health risks that are
involved with it, it's
commonly known as one of
the most public health
challenges of the 21st
century.
There are a substantial amount of programs and resources available within the
community that will help reduce the rate of childhood obesity.
5. Introduction to healthy canteens
within schools will reduce the bad
fats such as chocolate and pastry.
This will increase the good fats
which will allow for students to
make better choices when eating
from the canteen.
Changing a menu within a school
environment will increase healthy
eating habits and this will
encourage children to eat healthy
outside of school on a regular
basis.
6. Implementation of
accessible drinking water
fountains in facilities
around the school will
encourage students to
drink water. This will help
keep kids focused and
energized at school.
Including water fountains
throughout schools will
also reduce the amount
sugar-sweetened
beverages that are being
consumed.
In being able to put this strategy into work, having access
to water at all times will help benefit healthy lifestyle
choices and will go towards reducing or preventing the
onset of becoming overweight or obese.
