E portfolios final
1. E—PORTFOLIOS 1
E-Portfolios in a Nutshell
An Electronic Portfolio is a collection of artifacts and evidence that provide the reader an
opportunity for a visual experience through the presenter’s academic or personal learning
journey. The collection of evidence can range from photographs, papers, and websites to videos
and audio for an opportunity for the reader to understand in a multitude of ways about the
presenter’s information.
Within this electronic portfolio, one can utilize it to create a database so others may see
their educational experiences. This form of sharing personal resources and collected information
can be used for “Planning educational programs, document knowledge, skills abilities, and
learning, track development within a program, find a job, evaluate a course and monitor and
evaluate performance” (Ittelson & Lorenzo, 2005).
E-portfolios can also be utilized within a classroom. I believe using this type of personal
database within my classroom will help my students in their futures. I would love to incorporate
teaching e-portfolios so that student’s can showcase their own academic journey. As a future
health teacher, I understand the necessary aspects of being able to show the information about
my personal education, learning background and personal views will allow me to facilitate
sharing to my peers as well as administration.
Before technology became so prominent in the “millennia's” era. I remember having to
showcase personal educational accomplishments using a poster board, pictures and personal
stories to catch a readers attention. I believe e-portfolios are a great way to share information
with others about our backgrounds, in a way where multiple people will be able to reach this
information and correspond over a longer period of time.
2. E—PORTFOLIOS 2
The most important elements of an E-portfolio are the fact they are a way for individuals
can promote themselves using technology. It is important for the sharing to multiple people for
longer periods of time. E-portfolios are a great source because it has multiple uses, anyone can
utilize this information, it can help students, teachers and administrations with enhancing
education and gathering learning experiences from other people to help facilitate their own
learning process.
I personally would like to use an E-portfolio to gather some of my greatest
accomplishments and help others to see how much I have done in my life thus far. I would like to
utilize an E-portfolio as a way to help my students find jobs, and a way for them to showcase
everything they have learned in my class. With health being a very important subject that is
based on the recollection and understanding of each topic, standard and aspect of the curriculum.
It would be beneficial to have my students show me that they have collected to proper data
within the class and showcase that to the rest of their peers. I believe this will also help me see as
a teacher how I am doing with teaching my classes and if there’s anything I would have hoped
they learned but did not fully understand within my teachings.
For an example, in understanding nutrition I believe it would be a wonderful way for
students to show the class everything they have comprehended throughout the unit. They could
create videos about their favorite healthy food, provide websites that allow students to track their
nutritional value in foods, upload their personalized meal plans, and post pictures of healthy
foods vs unhealthy foods. I believe utilizing an e-portfolio can have so many different ways to
showcase achievements. From my own personal resume and accomplishments, to utilizing the
same concept for my students to show me what they have learned, it provides an electronic

opportunity for a visual academic showcase. E-portfolios are a wonderful tool, and I hope to
continue to learn more and utilize this technology aspect for my future.
