4. La Cuadrilla is an extremely poor
town in Guerrero Mexico near
Ixtapa, Zihuatanejo (a tourist
destination).
5.
6. Both of my parents
immigrated from
Guerrero, Mexico
here to California on
foot through the hot
desert.
7. Push Factors
No jobs
No income
Extremely poor town
No opportunities
No access to quality medical help
No place to start a family
8. Primary Sector of
the Economy
Started working in Bakersfield,
CA in the agriculture field
Picked and packaged different
types of fruits
Worked long ten to twelve hour
shifts
Summers reached up to 110
degrees
9. Ghetto
My parents moved from Bakersfield, CA to East LA.
A city that is considered a “ghetto” because minorities settle here. Mexicans
being the main minority.
A lot of Mexican influence
You can find Catholic (main religion in Mexico) churches, Mexican restaurants,
many Mexican monuments in every corner
Many people offer services that will help Mexicans adjust to life in the United
States
10. Immigrants Ladder
First lived in Bakersfield, CA
Then moved to East LA for better job opportunities
Then moved to Norwalk because East LA had a lot of gang
activity and drug activity, it was not safe. The LA Riots
were the main reason they decided to move out.
We then moved from Norwalk, CA to Mira Loma, Ca
because Norwalk was starting to fill with gang violence
and there were better schools here. Mira Loma is a safer
and nicer neighborhood.
11. Chain Migration
My family is the perfect example of a chain migration
because my parents convinced some of my aunts and uncles
to immigrate here to California.
My dad helped 4 of his brothers and 3 of his sisters cross the
border and helped them settle in Los Angeles, CA
My mother helped her 3 brothers and 4 of her sisters cross
the border. She was able to find them jobs and provided them
with a place to live.
