Boukari AYESSAKI is an Agricultural Economist with over 20 years of national and international demonstrated 
varied experiences in the areas of sustainable agriculture and rural development, field research, “grass roots” 
studies, micro-finance/credit, agrifinance, organizational and institutional development (commercial farmers’ 
organisations/cooperatives, Civil society organisations,..), agricultural value chains’/enterprises’ studies and 
development (including gender, governance, sustainability, climate change and resilience, structuring and 
capacity building – organisational – management – entrepreneurial - technical), advocacy/lobby, gender 
mainstreaming, training, programme designing, planning, management and monitoring, and human and 
financial resource management. These skills have been acquired and refined in multidisciplinary team 
environments in Togo, Benin, Tanzania, Democratic Republic of Congo, Uganda and Cameroon. 
Sustainable development expert, I have extensive working experience in programme management with many 
organisations and stakeholders such as farmers’ organisations, local and national governments, bilateral and 
multilateral international agencies such as FAO, UNDP, EU, GIZ, the Belgian governmental and technical 
cooperation, local and international NGOs. I worked particularly with Vredeseilanden (VECO), a Belgium 
International NGO, for over 15 years, 8 of which as Country Director and 7 as Program Coordinator/Advisor in 
Value Chain Development. The last two years, I worked with SNV/The Netherlands Development Organisation as 
Senior Advisor Agricultural Value Chain Development in Cameroon. 
Result driven expert, I am familiar with methodologies and strategic planning tools (logical frame work, outcome 
mapping), and I have knowledge and skills in project cycle management/result based management, business 
development, planning, monitoring and evaluation, leadership, consultancy. I have strong facilitation, training 
and capacity building skills. 
I have strong negotiation capacities with local, national as well as international development and financing 
agencies. I also have knowledge and competences in gender issues for having coordinated and assured directly, 
for many years, promoting activities and gender mainstreaming within organisations and programs while 
assuming my duties as Country Representative. Environmental and climate change/resilience as well as 
HIV/AIDS issues were part of programs I dealt with. Excellent communicator, I have strong competence in 
advocacy, lobbying and negotiation.

Major achievements: Major achievements during the last three years are among others: 
(1) Appropriate training materials and modules developed on credit and agricultural business development; 
more than 20 staff and 100 commercial farmer organization leaders supported technically on value chain 
development and access to finance through trainings, advices, and accompaniment, coaching and 
mentoring in Uganda, Tanzania and Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC); 
(2) Appropriate policies and strategies developed on sustainable agricultural chain development, credit 
facilitation and business organizational and institutional development of commercial farmer organizations; 
(3) Functional linkages stimulated between partners with appropriate 7 financial institutions and 10 business

sector/buyers in Uganda and RDC; 
(4) An effective PLA (Planning, Learning and Accountability) put in place as a monitoring system (designing and 
implementing the system in the field in Uganda and DRC); 
(5) Learning stimulated among agricultural value chain development staff in three countries-Uganda, Tanzania, 
Democratic Republic of Congo (presented cases and lead half and annual reflection and planning meetings, 
lead Agriprofocus Agrifinance group meetings-a learning and advocacy network); 
(6) Subsector studies and value chain analyses undertaken (rice, vegetables and fruits sectors) and concept 
notes and proposal written for Uganda and DRC, with successful fund raised for the DRC programmes; 
(7) Initiating maize value chain in the North-West Cameroon: 
- Identification and selection of partners and program areas through mappings of production zones; 
- More than 5000 farmers male and female trained in less than two years in business planning, 
entrepreneurial skills, farm management, post-harvest handling, etc. (over 400 of them are trained as 
community trainers to train others) ; 
- Structuring and strengthening two maize cooperative federation/network (organisational and 
institutional strengthening, visions, missions, strategies, roles, functions, structures, management, 
governance, gender, organisation of collection points/marketing, inputs supply, internal and external 
resources mobilisation, planning/implementation/coordination/monitoring, business planning and 
management, lobby/advocacy, business linkages, multi stake holder processes/networking, market 
survey/research, improvement of production/productivity, agrifinancing, technical skills, etc.); 
- Dialogue initiated between maize producers and other maize chains actors (input suppliers, 
buyers/traders, processors, etc.) and stakeholders (Government agencies and projects/programmes, 
NGOs, Service providers, financial institutions, Mayors/Councils, Research institutions, etc.): sharing 
information and knowledge, capacity building of various actors, advocacy, market linkages, resource 
mobilisation, etc. 
- Collective marketing of maize and collective input acquisition initiated;

The last two years, I worked with SNV/The Netherlands Development Organisation as Senior Advisor Agricultural Value Chain Development in Cameroon. Result driven expert, I am familiar with methodologies and strategic planning tools (logical frame work, outcome mapping), and I have knowledge and skills in project cycle management/result based management, business development, planning, monitoring and evaluation, leadership, consultancy.
