Mr Hubbuch:
As you are aware, throughout the year there are many sporting events that people
from all over the world watch. But what about those that do not get the most
coverage? What about a sporting event that’s mission and vision is to attract the
best athletes while gearing towards transforming communities?
The Pan Am/ Parapan Am Games are just right behind the Olympics and Asian
games in regards to size and sporting events, making it the third largest sporting
event internationally. People have been watching and participating in the Pan Am
Games since 1951 in order to showcase and support their country’s talent:
Unique features of the Pan AM Games include:
Sports include boxing, equestrian, mountain biking, and badminton.
Athletes from over 41 countries and territories are expected to participate
Kids can even participate in Kids ‘N Play, a program to encourage them to
participate in the games with after school activities.
Celebrating the Pan Am Culture and performance
The Pan Am Games will be held July 10-26 2015 with the Parapan Am Games right
behind it on August 7-14, 2015. The games promise to bring an entertaining
experience.
We hope to see you there!

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Hazardous Global Weather Effects Discussed At Colorado Conference
May 22, 2013, Boulder, CO
The University of Colorado will be hosting the 39th Annual Natural Hazards
Research and Application Workshop Sunday, June 22 through Wednesday, June 25,
2014 at the Omni Interlocken Resort in Broomfield, Colorado.
The Natural Hazards Center’s mission has been to advance and communicate
knowledge on disaster preparedness, response, and recovery through knowledge
concerning the social science and policy aspects of disasters on a national and
international level. Gilbert F. White, a geographer who worked for the Natural
Hazards Center and passed away this year had this to say about natural hazards
work, “the beliefs that the human race is a family that has inherited a place on the
earth in common, that its members have an obligation to work toward sharing it so
that none is deprived of the elementary needs for life, and that all have a
responsibility to leave it undegraded for those who follow.”
The topics covered at the conference vary from Daniel Baker from the
University of Vermont covering the effects of mobile home parks during Hurricane
Irene to Frannie Edwards from San Jose State University discussing the importance
of transit for mass publics during a natural disaster. The Natural Hazards Center
hosts this conference to over 400 hundred people from state, federal, and local
emergency officials. The Center also gears the conference to disaster consultants,
hazards researchers, non-profits and humanitarian organizations dedicated to ease
the impacts of disasters past, present, and future.
The Natural Hazards Center has a publication to help communicate the
effects of weather and the proper action to be taken during these events. The
Natural Hazards Observer is a bimonthly newspaper covering current disasters and
national, international, and local disaster management. The Observer also releases
information on education programs for certain weather events, research being
conducted at the Center, and political and policy developments.
The Natural Hazards Center has always promoted approaches in dealing with
environmental extremes and has made many partnerships from a multitude of
professions and through these partnerships carrying on the importance of weather
preparedness and disaster relief procedures.
