Research Projects Completed:
1. Improving the Response Time of Sequential SVM Classifiers for Intrusion
Detection System.
SVM is widely used in classification of network traffic in to mainly five classes:
Normal, DOS, Prob, U2R and R2L. In general, to classify the traffic in the above five
classes, five SVM classifiers are executed in parallel fashion. But in the case of
scarcity of the resources like CPU and RAM, these SVM classifiers are applied in
sequential manner. Such sequential SVM classifier increase the response time up to
the large extant. To minimize the response time for such sequential classifiers, we
developed a model which uses the past experience of the network traffic and weights
which is user controllable. These past experience and weights helps to sequencing
the SVM classifiers. Our experiments on such model clearly show reduction of
response time by 10%.
2. Optimization of Back Propagation Neural Network (BPNN) parameters which
uses large data sets.
BPNN has various parameters / criteria which can be optimized to improve training
time and processing time specially while dealing with large data set. We had
developed and tested a methodology which optimize these parameters/criteria and
improves the performance of the BPNN for anomaly detection by many folds. Work of
this project was published in IEEE International Conference which was awarded as
Best Paper.
3. Improving Performance of Mobile Agent Based Intrusion Detection System.
From the last decade, Mobile Agent has been extensively used to detect distributed
attack in the computer networks. However, literature survey of existing mobile agent
based intrusion detection systems clearly shows poor response time and large agent
size as major challenges. In this project, we tried to find reasons and solutions for
these challenges. We had verified these solutions on computer network having 1400
systems by performing various experiments using Jade Agent Platform. Our
experiments clearly show that our solutions reduce response time and agent size to a
great extent.
4. Optimizing Radial Basis Function parameters using QPSO algorithm to
enhance detection accuracy in Intrusion Detection System.
RBF is used for detecting Intrusion in computer Networks. To improve detection rate
and reduce false alarm rate, parameters of Radial Basis Function had been optimized
by QPSO algorithm. Our experiments show significant improvement in the detection
rate and reduction in false alarm rate.
