Generally, a Fellow is a professional engineer who is working in a senior role and
has significant responsibility and autonomy, and they can demonstrate the
following qualities:
Essential:
· A position of senior responsibility or/and major autonomy in your specific
field
· Demonstrable qualities of a leader
· Influencing policy and strategy-making decisions in either a business or
technical environment
· The promotion of the engineering profession to your engineers and
potential engineers
· A set approach to Continuing Professional Development (CPD) that
explains both the way you have developed your CPD in your career to date and
how you plan your future CPD
3. Desirable:
· Highly expert knowledge in a particular area of engineering
· Technical and engineering resource management or/and personnel
management and development
Optional:
· Responsibility for a budget and the related risk
· Active application and development of new technologies in engineering
and related areas at the senior level
· Use of a significant range of fundamental principles and complicated
techniques across a broad and often unpredictable variety of contexts
You can apply for upgrading to Fellowship if you are a CEng, IEng, or EngTech
Member.
In addition, you can also apply directly to Fellowship, which would need you to
fill in a more detailed application. IMechE would also need to evaluate your
competence for becoming an EngTech, CEng, or IEng.
