1. The Goodness of Chocolate
The first celebration was last July 7th, 2009, because this was the first-day
chocolate was brought to Europe in 1550. The National Chocolate Day is every July
28th, while the National Bittersweet Chocolate is every November 7th.
Dark chocolate has good benefits for health. It is rich in antioxidants, which
prevent certain diseases, including heart ailments. Some doctors recommend taking
dark chocolate. According to Dr. Oz, dark chocolate keeps a person young-looking and
younger feeling because it helps control blood pressure.
During the early period, chocolate was a drink and not served in bars. The
Aztecs were unable to plant cocoa themselves. It is considered a luxury imported into
the Empire. The Aztecs were required to give cocoa seeds as a payment for the tax.
They also used chocolate as currency for trading.
Baker’s chocolate was the first company to produce chocolate in the United
States. In 1765 James Baker and John Hannon founded the company in Boston. They
used cocoa beans from the West Indies. In 1946, Frederick Herbert introduced white
chocolate in Shrewsbury, Massachusetts.
In 1847, a British company, J.S Fry & Sons, created the first edible chocolate
bar. Cadbury was the first to produce the Valentine’s Day chocolate box and chocolate
Easter egg. Swiss Chocolatier Daniel Peter and his neighbor, Henri Nestlé, were the
first to introduce milk chocolate bar, who later paired as a business partner to build a
company of Nestlé Company.
Chocolate has an impact on the economy. It has a big part of the $34.5 billion in
the sweet product industry. It covers over 60%, which is equivalent to 21.1 billion of the
candy industry, and it continues to increase every year.
