1. A working title:
‘Melody is an escape’
2. Length of the Film:
Relatively short about 4-7 minutes
3. Short logline/tagline :
4 friends use music to escape from the mundane mental confines of education.
4 friends rebel against the mundane academia through music.
4. Characters:
Each member of the ‘band’ – guitarist, drummer, bass, singer etc. They are both
shown to feel in a similar depressed way over school but then when they play music
together its positive and a way to forget about it.
5. Synopsis:
- Act 1:
It’s black. You can hear the sound of tapping along with the music, like with a
pencil on a table etc. The character is sitting at his desk with his pencil tapping
away as if a song is stuck in his head. The camera then sharply pans to the next
classroom where we can see another kid sitting at his desk. He’s writing music and
drawing rough notes and lines. It then transitions to another shot of hands
tapping on the table, another character sitting there tapping to a bassline as he
zones out from the mundane maths lesson.
- Act 2:
The bell goes and everyone filters out of classrooms and starts walking home.
Each character is shown to go in different directions to everyone else. They all go
into the music block and into the music room. The drums start, we see the shaking
cymbals, the vibrating drums and the hands of the drummer as he plays. There’s
silence, then all the instruments come in and we see the faces of the characters as
they start to play together. It feels like a positive atmosphere.
