ROLF LOVLAND
•Rolf Lovland was born on 19th April 1955.
•He is a Norwegian composer best known as the keyboardist with Celtic group Secret
Garden.
•He began composing at an early age (he formed a band at the age of nine).
•Besides, he was known as a composer and a producer.
•He studied at the Kristiansand Music Conservatory & later received a Masters degree
from the Norwegian Institute of Music, Oslo.
•He achieved international recognition for ‘You Raise Me Up’.
•He was known as a successful and famous artist in his country.

3. •It was established in 1994 by Rolf Lovland.
•It includes the Irish violinist Fionnuala Sherry and the Norwegian composer and pianist Rolf Lovland.
•Fionnuala Sherry was born in Ireland.She began playing the violin when she was 9.Then she went to
Denmark to learn about the music and joined in RTE concert orchestra.Audiences was attracted by her
wonderful music.
•Secret Garden has sold over 3 million albums and won the Eurovision Song Contest for Norway's second
time in 1995 with the composition Nocturne.
•Their success at Eurovision leads to the success of their first album “Songs from a Secret Garden”. It sold
a million copies around the world ( platinum in Norway and Korea, gold in Ireland, Hong Kong and New
Zealand and spending two years in the Billboard New Age charts in 1996 and 1997).
•Their some famous works : Sona, Dawn Of The New Century, Passacaglia, Nocturne, Appassionata, Dream
Catcher...and specially Songs From A Secret Garden...

4. SONGS FROM A SECRET GARDEN
• Songs from a secret garden is considered as a “theme song” of Secret Garden.
• One thing people may not know is that this work named Piano piece in C Minor
before Rolf met Fionnuala.After that,they recorded that music again.
• From that,with the sweet sound,it created a perfect work Songs from a secret
garden.
• Songs from a secret garden is played sucessfully with the combination of the vionlin
and piano.
• The harmony in this work evokes a sad atmosphere.Besides,this music is played by
Valse,slow,sweet.It can be said that the sound of the violin is the main sound in this
work.
• General analysis :
 During this work,we can easily see that it is played with slow tempo and soft
dynamic.
 The work is pulsed.
 One thing all of us like is that the excellent combination of piano and violin . It
makes an amazing sound we can enjoy .Besides , the soft melody is also the
favourite thing to us.
 However ,the regularly repeated melodies may be the thing we dislike
.Sometimes,it makes audiences feel bored although it is a beautiful music.

5. VIOLIN
•The violin is one of the four major instruments in the string family( the viola, the
cello and the double bass) are built the same way.
•The instruments are made of many pieces of wood which are glued - never nailed -
together. The body of the instrument is hollow, thus becoming a box for the sound.
Four strings (sometimes five on the double-bass) are made of animal gut, nylon, or
steel.
•The violin is the soprano voice in the string family. It is held under the chin, resting
on the shoulder.It has a lovely tone that can be soft and expressive or exciting and
brilliant
PIANO
•The piano is one of the members in the keyboard family.
•The sound is produced on the piano by small hammers striking strings. The
hammers are controlled mechanically and strike the strings when the player's
hands press the piano keys.
•An amazingly flexible instrument, the piano is capable of producing connected
singing tones or bright ,according to sensitive touch of the player.

The sound of Songs from a Secret Garden brings me out of the busy life
and leads me to another world. In this world, my soul excels at absolute
peace and floats through memories as well as a leaf follows the flow to
return its origin. The song is as a sad picture but ambitious. The dark covers
the whole of scenery and it seems to fall, suddenly an awakening of a new
life really starts. This work is a gentle song with the mixture of piano and
violin of Secret Garden. Piano sound is like softly rain fall, as the waves
crash onto the shore. Besides , the Violin performs very melodiously….
Slowly, slowly but deeply into one’s heart. Close your eyes, listen and
please feel it when everything is in the darkness .. The darkness becomes
close and gentle, the night brings you back to yourself and gives you nice
dreams, aspirations. When I listen to this, in my heart ,rising a strange
sadness but finally giving back an immense joy…I love this song!!

With melodious and steady sound, slow rhythm and soft speed,
water flows gently as the gentle streams, the murmur of each
rhythm sweeps away all dust and anxiety.The sound of violin is
so sad, it spreads like persistent thoughts , contains many
feelings dragging our souls, where it is mixed with the beautiful
piano sound, slowly and unhurried, simple and deep, brings our
soul to venture around the heaven area called Secret Garden,
makes us feel peaceful and serene. Beginning of that harmony,
Songs from A Secret Garden is gentle and quiet as a whisper :
Our soul is the place where we can find peace after a busy life
and think about things. Come here, step into the Secret Garden
and find their own harmonious melodies of the soul, let the
music lead to the emotions inside the soul, not noisy and not
quiet, but soft steps. Sometimes, bringing us to a quiet place
where we could hear the voice of the soul, face to ourselves and
pour out the sorrow.

same music title .I would like to talk about the combinations of differentsame music title .I would like to talk about the combinations of different
instruments. One thing I need to mention is that 2 pieces of music have the sameinstruments. One thing I need to mention is that 2 pieces of music have the same
